    None of the reporters have been mentioning Kottaras' status at all, like he doesn't even exist. They must know something we don't (like the Brewers plan to DFA him or something).

    You're probably right about the Cain availability issue, colby. There's a lot of gamesmanship that goes on during this time of year. Funny thing is that this seems to have picked up quite a bit of steam. ESPN has a write up on Cain in their Insider section (nothing earth shattering), etc.

    From my (Brewers fanboy) p.o.v., Gamel/Jeffress/Cain is overpaying for two seasons of a relatively expensive Garza. However, I do think the Crew would have to add onto that offer to pry away Upton, who also has two years of team salary control remaining. Not to nit pick, but we'd have Garza for three years.

    Me too. Those types don't pan out more often than not. Though Melvin does say on Haudricourt's blog that he isn't opposed to exploring them, just that's not what they're focused on right now.

    If they really are "mystery teams (ie. not Yankees and Rangers), my guesses are the Nats and Tigers.

    Gindl, Schafer, Green, Komatsu... Not saying all those guys will make it or the system would be overloaded with position studs. Just that I don't think giving up both Cain and Gamel would be the end of the world. CF is a position of depth for the Brewers organization. Gamel would hurt a bit more because of the uncertainty with Fielder.

    You wouldn't think so with the salary the Brewers would be taking on. Having Upton for two years (I think) would be a nice bridge gap until someone like Schaefer or Komatsu was ready.

    I don't know that we'd have to part with Odorizzi. Maybe something like Cain/Jeffress/Rivas?

    We'd have to include another piece or two, I assume.

    ListachRides, I don't deny Greinke is better than Gallardo or Marcum. I just think the trade and salary costs don't justify what we would get back in return. Given that Melvin reportedly made two offers to the Royals and was turned down, I'd have to assume it would cost something like Jeffress/Rogers/Odorizzi/Cain to get him. I just think that's too much for two years of any starting pitcher.

    I really don't want Kawakami by himself. He's 35 and didn't have a very good season last year.

    Apparently the Braves want to shed Kawakami's contract. Here's an idea: Brewers receive: Kenshin Kawakami/Brandon Beachy Braves receive: Carlos Gomez/Mitch Stetter Brewers take on salary, but get two pitchers.
