  1. We already have a decent and cheap #5 starter in Narveson. Melvin is looking to spend money on someone better than that.
  2. Personally, I'd stick to the place with the better economy and better job prospects.
  3. I agree with crewcrazy. I'd rather have the potential upside of a second round pick than the more probable downside of signing Carl Pavano.
  4. He's more than a "flyer" guy at this point. The Indians aren't just going to give him away.
  5. I guess I don't get why the Brewers wouldn't want Beachy then? Maybe they're not convinced he'll stick as a starter?
  6. Well, it's an intriguing possibility. He had a strong 2010, and has an affordable contract. Only 27 years old. I'm worried such a deal would take too much from the Brewers' perspective. I'm not sure what the Indians need, though.
  7. As long as Prince Fielder is still a Brewer, I don't think you have to worry about that.
  8. I think that's true (regarding Narveson). I think Brewers management feels Parra has gotten more than enough opportunity to stick as a starter and has failed. He looked so good out of the bullpen though, I don't know why anyone would want to mess with that again.
  9. As Tom Haudricourt points out, signing Pavano would also cost a second round draft pick.
  10. No offense to Craig Coshun, but I'm sure many would love to see her back as the "roving reporter."
  11. Another "injury guy" people are fascinated by because of his name that probably isn't going to amount to a hill of beans in 2011.
  12. Well, maybe not say with certainty, but both can probably be projected to pitch 200 innings or there abouts.
  13. Yes, I'm pretty sure people were joking about that. This is just one of those "injury guy" signings people get fascinated by, that usually ends up amounting to nothing as far as the big league club.
  14. That's what I suspected. If so, that's too bad. Maybe it was a mutual agreement type of thing, though.
  15. Not sure what Trenni's situation with MLB Network was. Too bad she is no longer there either way, as she did a really good job. I believe she's planning on doing some sort of trip to India very soon.
  16. Definitely the family connection had something to do with it. No big deal though, as that happens all over baseball.
  17. With Mark Prior. The team agreed to sign Mark Prior to a minor league deal, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick (on Twitter). The Rangers and Yankees were the finalists for Prior, who pitched in Texas' system last year, but has not appeared in a major league game since 2006.
  18. I don't know. It's a one year deal for a fairly modest salary. This seems like the kind of deal the Pirates should be making until they're really ready to compete.
  19. OMG Braun released!!!! Oh, you mean that Braun. Oh well.
  20. I enjoyed hearing Brian Cashman somewhat sputtering in a sound bite today. "Plan B is Patience", he said.
  21. See, I just don't get that. Blanton at least gives us a decent chance to be competitive. Chances are we will need to use the likes of Rogers and Capuano in the rotation at some point during the season anyway. At least getting a Blanton would give us some real depth instead of very shallow depth.
  22. Seems like a good deal for both sides.
  23. I do wonder if missing out on Lee may make Texas think more about a Fielder trade now. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.
  24. Yeah, usually when the Yankees or Red Sox lose or miss out on a free agent (not that this happens often), their fans and supporting media start to think the rest of the league is their AAAA system.
