  1. Looking at Beachy's MiLB numbers...why would they even trade him? He's young and looks like he could be pretty good. I would think it would take much more than Gomez to get him.
  2. I really think people are way over obsessed with Zach Greinke based on his name value and Cy Young Award. Yes, I'd love to see him pitching for the Brewers as well, but not at the expense of stripping out the farm system for two seasons of him. Really, if you look at the numbers, Shaun Marcum isn't that far behind Greinke. I realize the Brewers still need another starting pitcher, but we have to keep things realistic. The Brewers apparently already made two offers to KC, which weren't accepted. Probably time to move on to other ideas.
  3. I said this on Twitter, but Gomez is about as "available" as Jeff Suppan was last winter.
  4. I sure hope not. I think it was pretty clear that Axford cemented himself as closer. Broxton would be a setup man type.
  5. I get the feeling something will get done, and relatively soon. We've heard enough comments and hints saying that Rickie wants an extension with Milwaukee. I know getting Rickie re-signed will make people feel better about the Lawrie trade as well.
  6. chadomac, yes, it is frustrating. I saw them talking it up on MLB Network, of all places, last night.
  7. Sheets is probably going to miss all of 2011 due to his latest surgery, like you said. I wouldn't be surprised if he retires.
  8. I was just thinking yesterday, "Boy, this makes Corey Hart's contract look like a pretty good deal now."
  9. I don't see either player being that useful to the Crew at this point. Loney would be OK as a 1B, but wouldn't be close to Prince's production. Broxton is expensive and not really needed with our current bullpen.
  10. Marcum had a very good 2008 season as well. 3.39 ERA and 1.163 WHIP.
  11. This article says the Dodgers are talking to the Brewers about Fielder: http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=5892211 LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The Los Angeles Dodgers are actively involved in discussions on a possible three-player deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that would bring slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to Los Angeles in exchange for Dodgers first baseman James Loney and embattled closer Jonathan Broxton, according to multiple sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Broxton and Loney? Yuck. I would hope we'd get much more than that to swing a deal.
  12. Yeah, I saw that too. Sounds like Greinke to Milwaukee is pretty much a dead idea at this point.
  13. Not sure I get the Fielder suggestions, in regards to Tampa Bay.
  14. Haudricourt with this juicy tidbit on his latest blog update: This is not to say the Brewers wouldn't trade Cain. It would just have to be a blockbuster, a la Zach Greinke. And, speaking of Greinke, that same very good source told me the Brewers made two attempts already to trade for the KC ace but the price was way too high -- far beyond Brett Lawrie. That's when they refocused on Toronto's Shaun Marcum and sent Lawrie there. So this probably puts most talk of Greinke to the Brewers to rest.
  15. I take it to mean that Melvin is saying he has to receive a great offer to deal Cain. He won't give him away just to make a move, which most of us already knew.
  16. Haudricourt with an update. I just got it from a very good source that the Brewers are not looking to trade CF Lorenzo Cain. They'll listen but don't want to move him.
  17. This seems to be the predominant train of thought now. Of course, they could just decide to hang onto Fielder as well and try to make one more run with him. Basically I think Melvin doesn't have to deal Fielder unless he's blown away by an offer...and it doesn't have to involve a starting pitcher, as you said.
  18. You are probably right. I am somewhat biased because I would rather not trade Odorizzi if at all possible.
  19. If they'd be willing to include Alex Gordon with Greinke, I'd consider it. I really think the better option would be exploring a trade like Garza from the Rays, or someone from the Braves (Mike Minor? Jair Jurrjens?). I think we'd have to give up less.
  20. He could lose velocity or get hurt just like any other pitcher on the planet. Those aren't good reasons not to make a trade.
  21. I'd hate to see him leave, as I really liked how he played last season. I guess if you can get a good SP for him, you have to go for it, though. Brewers have other CF prospects getting close.
  22. Wow, that's quite an attitude to take. Maybe we can go back to being like the Pirates and always rebuilding towards nothing.
  23. That's been one of my main points, endaround. It's been looking more and more that Lawrie won't stick at 2B. He'd inevitably probably move to the outfield, or possibly be converted to a corner infielder (I admit to not knowing where his defensive skill set would work better). We can find + bat/- glove guys to play those positions. We haven't been able to find high quality starting pitchers. We had to give up something to get a guy. The return for Marcum was much less pricey than what Greinke would have inevitably taken. We weren't going to get a pitcher like this for Carlos Gomez and Manny Parra.
  24. Aggression when it's going to lead to the upside of 85 wins isn't really doing it for me. 85 wins could be enough to win this division or possibly the wild card, though. We have to remember that Melvin probably isn't done making moves, though.
  25. he has an .827 OPS in the small but productive and adventurous (21 K's) sample. I don't know why, but this made me chuckle. Thanks for the continued updates, Mass.
