  1. I heard Buster Olney on Homer this afternoon. He really downplayed Fielder's value at this point, even quoting a baseball GM who said that with Fielder's impending free agency and the fact he is a Boras client, he isn't worth much. He basically said there is no way we would get anything close to the Teixeira trade. To be honest it was kind of disappointing to hear.
  2. Judgin from recent comments from Jack Zdurencik, it sounds very much like the Mariners are in "win now" mode, and are not planning a sell off. I think there is a lot of pressure on the team to make the playoffs very soon, and I get sense that there won't be a massive sell off like some have anticipated. We have to remember that Seattle isn't a small market team.
  3. My problem is with areas that are blatant speed traps. Areas that are only 25 mph in rural country areas, freeways that are only 55 where 65 mph would be fine, etc. I don't think law enforcement should be used for revenue generation, but I guess we're well past that debate here in Wisconsin.
  4. Well, Prince is DHing tonight, so there goes that theory.
  5. This is what I was referring to in the Rosenthal link: The Brewers, nine games out, would want Lee only to flip him for younger pitching in a three-way deal. They could offer Zduriencik immediate offensive help — right fielder Corey Hart, the NL leader with 17 homers. Or, they could build a package around a young third baseman — Mat Gamel, who has an .884 OPS at Class AAA. Zduriencik, the Brewers’ former scouting director, drafted both players.
  6. I think Davis should go to the bullpen when he comes back.
  7. "Finally, I'm really torn about Macha. I don't like him, and would like to see him shown the door, but I don't really want Randolph or Sveum given the job, as the team is likely better than they've been playing, and if they step it up in the second half, the Brewers might be handcuffed into giving Randolph/Sveum the permanent job. I'd rather see them go on the open market and find the best available man for the job. There has to be someone out there... doesn't there? " This is pretty much how I feel, though it might be viewed as unfair to keep Macha around as a lame duck manager when it's obvious he won't be renewed. On the other hand, I don't want to feel obligated to give Sveum or Randolph a chance next season.
  8. Well, tying it into his performance last season then?
  9. I can buy that Suppan was kept around for "depth", or "insurance." But there was absolutely no justification whatsoever for keeping him in the rotation after spring training, other than his contract.
  10. By "component input", I assume you mean stereo RCA (white & red). As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to do this. You are talking about taking a digital audio stream and converting it to analog. There are possibly converters out there (old school Dolby Digital decoders, or something like this), but I think you might be better off just investing in even an entry level modern surround sound receiver.
  11. Looking at the standings this morning, the Yankees are now tied with the Rays for first place in the AL East, with the Red Sox only four games back. Maybe this will put pressure on Tampa to make a strong move.
  12. Sounds good to me. Either one of those would be nice acquisitions, from what I've heard.
  13. Apparently Gomez's defense was too good last night for Mr. Macha.
  14. I would guess Cain is going to test the FA market at this point, at which juncture some team like the Yankees will give him an irresponsible contract the Brewers can't and shouldn't match.
  15. Some kind of three way trade involving the Mariners (Cliff Lee) and another team might not be completely outlandish.
  16. Ah yes, the mystical Bobby Valentine. A manager so amazing he hasn't had a job in MLB in almost 10 years. If you say his name three times, he appears through the nearest mirror and drags you into the puragtory of being a gaijin in Japanese baseball.
  17. Yes, but we saw similar numbers from Prince in 2008 under similar circumstances. That was my point earlier.
  18. I wonder if Hart to the Padres could be a possibility, after reading the blurb on MLB Trade Rumors about SD needing a bat. Their offense could use a boost, and they have arms to trade, though they seem to be reluctant to do so.
  19. Nice to see that Wolf ended up having a pretty decent game after some early inning struggles.
  20. You can get used tires pretty cheap at some places.
  21. I was surprised to see Wolf arguing with the ump after the inning was over, especially when it was a relatively quick inning. Also, Pete and I could use some company in the chat room.
  22. Yeah, Prince looked somewhat disgruntled that no one came out of the dugout to help him argue the call.
