  1. The expectation for sports in 2010 is that they are broadcast in HD. This was set by the broadcasters and manufacturers themselves, not the consumers. It's basically a magnifying glass effect. SD programs look fine on a regular TV, but if you have an HD set, you see all the flaws in the non-HD picture. Although last night was bad for the wife and I, as the bar we went to for dinner couldn't get WMLW on. I think they actually do get it (I've seen it on before), but the bartender was not competent at operating the remote. I wanted to snatch it from him, but they were pretty busy. So we followed the game on my wife's blackberry. Not the most exciting way to follow a game for sure.
  2. Do they still have free parking down there too? Seems like the Rays have really tried to get people to come, and the "fans" are generally apathetic about a highly competitive team. Anyway, it seems more and more like Fielder is killing his own value with his mediocre level of play this season.
  3. After how badly the team got screwed over with "compensation picks" when Sabathia and Sheets left, I'm not interested in seeing the same thing happen with Fielder. I blame Boras and Fielder himself for his poor play this year. My guess is he's pressing, trying to inflate his numbers to help his leverage in getting a monster payday. In the past it seems like he's played better when he hasn't had to worry about money (complained before '08 and had a down year, then got a big contract before '09 and had a great season). In the meantime he probably should be moved down in the order. He simply isn't performing like a cleanup or #3 hitter right now. Edit: And yes, I absolutely don't want to see the Brewers sign him to some huge and irresponsible extension. We're bad right now with him, we can be bad without him tying up 20-30% of the payroll. Let him be some other team's franchise crippling mistake.
  4. Maybe Macha suddenly realized Kottaras was on pace to catch about 2,000 innings this season and figured he should back off a bit.
  5. Stuff like this is why if I really want a player's autograph, I just buy it online.
  6. Scott Feldman versus the guy who looks like Corey Feldman.
  7. Basically from what I've heard is that the stadium isn't in a great area and it's pretty drab inside as far as providing a "baseball atmosphere." Still, I don't think those excuses really hold much water with such a good team playing in the toughest division in MLB. Real fans get out and support the team regardless of how "fun" the interior of the stadium is or not. It's not like they can whine about the weather like Marlins fans legitimately can.
  8. I saw Chad Moeller's cycle game. Also have seen two Brewers triple plays, including the one last season. Was also at the game where Randy Johnson hit his only career home run.
  9. Both of those options would be extremely inferior to Fielder or even Konerko.
  10. I just don't buy that logic Crew. What if he nosedives in the second half? We're just going to sit around saying, "Gee, we should have traded him when he was hot." This team has plenty of outfield options that will be ready for 2011. I'd rather trade Hart and get something more useful for the future if at all possible. Plus, if we do hold onto him and he continues hitting, he could get quite expensive next season. This team will probably be in a situation where they may have to reduce payroll and it doesn't make sense to spend so much on a right fielder with a fairly mediocre track record.
  11. The thing about Cain is we would only have him for two more years, then he would leave for FA. He won't be that cheap anymore either (due $15 million in 2012 alone). I guess that wouldn't be a bad return for 1.5 years of Fielder, but I'd hope we can get at least one young cost controlled pitcher in any trade involving Prince. I like the trade idea with the Rays much better, but is probably a pipe dream like some have said. And yes, Tampa is a horrible baseball market. They're currently 23rd in attendance in MLB, and averaging just over 22,000 a game. Just pathetic for a team which has the best record in baseball. For comparison, the Brewers are still 10th overall in attendance.
  12. It could just be he was starting to throw harder as a reliever, due to not having to conserve his arm strength. Just a thought. It is hard to imagine him adding 4-5 mph on his fastball, though.
  13. So you wouldn't take one really good AAA pitcher who is on the cusp of getting called up, but is perhaps blocked?
  14. While I liked Macha flipping Braun and Fielder in the lineup, it doesn't seem like it's helped. Maybe it's time to put them back in their "normal" spots.
  15. I guess it depends if the Red Sox think they are still in it or not. They probably do, but they are in third place and fairly well behind the Rays and Yankees. I'm not sure if it will make sense for them to be big buyers at the deadline or not.
  16. I can't believe people are still clinging to the thought of a trade for Clay Buchholz (or Matt Cain for that matter). It's like, get over it already. If it was going to happen, it would have already.
  17. This is funny. I figured that Suppan would have to ride out the season on the sidelines, and maybe get a spring training invite for next year. Instead he's on the roster of a team that's in first place. I guess this just goes to show how pathetic the pitching overall is in MLB beyond the surface, even in this so called "Year of the Pitcher".
  18. Yeah, that's been the big thing, not having a consistent rotation schedule. It doesn't really apply to Wolf, but I don't know why they think shuffling Parra, Bush, Narveson, and Capuano in and out of the rotation is possibly any sort of good idea.
  19. Macha sure sound frustrated with the starting pitching, though I think he is partly to blame. He had this to say about Wolf after last night's loss: “He hasn’t given us a chance to win that many games when he has started,” said manager Ken Macha. “If you’re going to get out of this hole we’ve dug and get back into it, you’re going to need consistent starting pitching. Obviously, we didn’t get that today.”
  20. Wolf's comments after the game kind of sum things up: “This is awful,” said Wolf, never one to sugar-coat a poor performance. “It’s one of those times when you feel like you’ll wake up and it’s a bad dream. But it’s not. It’s reality. I have to deal with it and try to get better." Kind of a good summary of the season, really.
  21. Braun looks like he might be playing through an injury (as suggested in another thread), and Fielder is probably letting his contract situation affect him. At least that's my theory. As far as Melvin's terrible luck with pitching, I don't blame him entirely, as I don't remember anyone predicting Hoffman, Hawkins, Wolf, and Davis all declining so dramatically at the same time. However, at some point the GM has to be held accountable for his repeated mistakes.
  22. I suspect because he lives in the area and probably works cheap?
  23. At some point the bad luck excuse goes away and the team is just bad. I think that point is quickly approaching.
  24. They basically admitted Lucroy wasn't ready yet when they called him up. They could just as well call up Maldonado or someone to ride the bench all year, if that's what they want. I realize they'd have to open up a roster spot for that, but they've magically come up with all these other DL stints to accommodate such moves. Lucroy could be our future at catcher, and there is no excuse for him to not get regular playing time somewhere, whether at MLB or AAA or AA or rookie ball. It is a shame to hear about Zaun, though. He was putting together a pretty decent season, and now his career may be done.
  25. Yeah, we don't want too many guys competing for starting rotation jobs. Geez. I get why they are doing this, but this still kind of sucks.
