  1. Yeah, at least then they wouldn't have wasted the bullpen. Uke deserved a better send off before his surgery.
  2. The Brewers have to score a minimum of 6 runs to ensure a win these days, it seems.
  3. Hoffman has given up 6 home runs in 8 innings so far this year. That's crazy.
  4. He's lost his control. He just doesn't have it. Either that, or he is hurt and hiding it.
  5. I feel bad for Hoffman, but they can't keep trotting him out if this is going to continue.
  6. I'm guessing if you asked anyone on this board at the time, no one would have wanted him. The consensus was that he was pretty much washed up.
  7. Werth is already 31 and probably likely to get a fairly big deal. I'm not sure he's someone to really target for the Brewers.
  8. I'm not ready to say, "He's done", but there's something definitely wrong. When a changeup pitcher isn't throwing his changeup, something has to be going on. At any rate, we just can't keep coughing up wins in the 9th inning like this. We had a chance to be back at .500 last night, and Hoffman got crushed.
  9. I don't think I could stand listening to Bill Michaels' voice for more than two minutes at a time. Homer would probably go off on weird tangents during the game, like talking about Corey Hart turning around on a ball for two innings on end.
  10. I don't know, but they need to do something quick. He was throwing straight fastballs all up in the zone yesterday, and getting crushed. Either force him to throw the changeup, or put him on the DL if there is some kind of legitimate physical issue. They have other options to use for closer in the time being.
  11. Counsell never wastes an AB, it seems like. *cough* chat room *cough*
  12. I think so. Time for the Brewers to get the bats going. Also I'm currently in the chat room if others would like to join in.
  13. I hadn't heard anything about that, but you might be right. Personally I've never been big on the idea of personal catchers. Good to see Suppan getting closing tips from Hoffman out there in the 'pen.
  14. Personally, I like this approach to the catcher's spot more than the last two guys', who would run Jason Kendall out reflexively and let Mike Rivera collect cobwebs on the bench.
  15. You're suggesting they put the team to death if they score less than 12?
  16. You just won't see them deal Fielder in April or May, even if the team is 10 games under .500. The team's budget is too dependent on ticket sales, and they won't risk tanking sales for the rest of the year by dealing Prince early. If it gets to be mid-June or so, and the team doesn't look competitive, I think Melvin will start seriously fielding offers.
  17. Definite bummer to hear about, but hopefully Uke will be fine and be back to deliver play-by-play while the Brewers are in the thick of a playoff hunt. Cory could probably handle doing most of the games himself at this point. Maybe this isn't feasible, but it might be kind of cool if they could rotate some guest commentators in while Uke is gone. Maybe Costas if he was available for a game (like someone mentioned), or even Matt Vasgersian. Kent Summerfeld has done fine in the past. Actually, this is getting really obscure, but several years ago there was a game where both Uecker and Jim Powell were unavailable to do the broadcast for some reason; and the Brewers brought in a guy named Gary Douglas from the local Brewers Radio Network affiliate around here. He actually did a really good job from what I remember. I'm just saying there are people out there who can handle it.
  18. Kids, don't try this one at home!
  19. If there's talk of Brooklyn getting an NBA team, why not an MLB team? Either way, the New York area could easily support a third team, and anything to give the Yankees and Mets some added competition would be a good thing.
  20. I know, but I think that's bad reasoning. I'd rather have interleague play all year anyway. I think this artificial separation between the leagues is archaic.
  21. I agree with what you're saying that it isn't easy. Just off the top of my head in your hypothetical situation, we could have signed Lackey instead of Wolf, and then maybe traded for a guy like Adam Dunn (I'm not trying to keep riding the Dunn train, but his contract and talent level are a good combo, and the Nats could probably have dealt him for a couple mid level prospects). I guess my main point is that while it's easy for Philadelphia to stick $25 million/yr into one guy, it's probably not the right move from a value standpoint for the Brewers. As much as I love Prince and what he does for the team, I just don't think it makes sense anymore (and yeah, I realize I've flip flopped back and forth on this topic a lot).
  22. You might be right. I'd swear that I read something about Selig asking the Astros if they wanted to move (I think maybe when the D-Backs and Rays came into the league?) but I could well be wrong. It was a few years ago, anyway. Still, it should be obvious that the divisions should be balanced out. There is no justification for having one six team division. None.
  23. I was just thinking this before. He's probably going to be a good to very good MLB player, but all the overhype on him has gotten very old. He's going to struggle this year, and all the early comparisons to Ken Griffey Jr. and the like have gotten pretty silly. The other night on ESPN I saw them trying to compare his rookie season to Griffey, Aaron, Mays, Mantle, etc. I think that is a bit over the top.
