  1. The 25 seasons before 2008 beg to differ with you.
  2. I agree. There just doesn't seem to be any real end in sight for their "rebuilding" either. I'm sure this current crop of guys will just be traded off in 2-3 years anyway.
  3. Some of the autographed items look neat, but I really doubt he is going to get anywhere close to what he is expecting.
  4. Is there a stat that purely shows how often a player gets on base, regardless of reason? I'd be curious to see it.
  5. Brewers now have sole possession of 2nd place in the NL Central. I the season still over?
  6. Gomez with two walks today, and three since yesterday's game. Definitely encouraging to see.
  7. Just got my first issue and activated Insider. Thanks again.
  8. It seems like it was something of a wash to me. It did sound like the Brewers were higher on Lucroy. They made it clear that they wanted both guys starting, not have them platooning at AAA. That's the only reason Lucroy went to AA at the start of the season. Frankly at this point with all his missed time, I'm wondering if Salome shouldn't go down to AA and prove his commitment to the team.
  9. If we're only talking $1-2 million at this point, then I guess it's not a bad signing. If he wants more than that, I'd pass.
  10. Gomez can be so good if he just develops any sort of plate discipline. I hope Sveum or whomever else are working hard with him to learn to take some pitches before flailing away. Also, I don't get why Macha doesn't consider switching Escobar and Gomez in the lineup, especially after Escobar's back-to-back three baggers last night.
  11. I see they just moved Laporta back to the outfield. Doesn't seem like he's a guy the Brewers would really miss at this point.
  12. Yeah, it's obviously still way early in the season, but right now the Yankees and Rays are running away with that division. And yeah, Loney is an "OK" player, but not a guy I'd want to target in a trade at all. He would be a huge drop off from Prince in terms of production.
  13. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but my understanding is that he will in fact still be working for ESPN (and I assume still on Sunday nights).
  14. There are other solutions out there. Even Lyle Overbay might not be a bad (and cheap) stopgap solution until someone from the minors is ready.
  15. No doubt Walt Jocketty was very impressed by Joe Morgan's strong grasp of baseball economics as demonstrated on ESPN last week, hence this hire.
  16. I have to admit I'm enjoying reading the reactions on NSBB to this move.
  17. Gallardo's last start was quite a bit better than his first two, so hopefully he can continue to step it up a bit. Duke will be tough, but hopefully the Brewers can come out scoring early again like last night.
  18. Well, the problem with that is, if I recall correctly, the Astros were offered the chance to switch leagues in the past and declined. Maybe they would reconsider at this point, though.
  19. Seems like there is a big disconnect between Zambrano and Piniella, especially after seeing Lou fretting over Big Z during their game against the Brewers last week. I could see this ending quite badly for the Cubs. Maybe Zambrano will get fed up and demand to be traded.
  20. I agree with your take, Ted. The current prospect hoarding by certain teams is getting to be rather ridiculous. My fear is that if it continues, we won't be able to get close to a fair deal if and when Prince is finally traded.
  21. I wonder how Zambrano is taking this. I would think he'd be pretty angry over being shunted to the bullpen, and in a way I wouldn't blame him.
  22. I see it as being two separate issues. The unbalanced leagues and divisions should so obviously be fixed, I'm not sure why it's taken so long to address them. The Yankees/Red Sox duopoly in the AL East is due to financial issues that are completely separate. Yeah, things should be fixed with regards to the draft and international free agents (as well as possibly a salary cap, like that will ever happen), but why not do both so things are more fair all around? I like Passan's idea better than the stupid "floating divisions" idea Selig was talking about during spring training.
  23. Didn't he have injury concerns in the past, which is why they've been using him as a reliever?
  24. Well, as I see it, the draft and revenue issues are unrelated to playoff and division balance. Right now you have one six team division and one four team division. With the current playoff format, that is completely illogical. The proposal in the Passan article would at least even things out so that no team has an advantage based on simple geography. I also like the idea of playing a greater amount of teams more frequently over the course of a season, rather than seeing the same old matchups ad nauseum. The more I think about it, I kind of like the idea of the Brewers moving back to the AL. Let's face it, we don't have any big rivalries right now. Yeah, we kind of have a thing going with the Cubs and Cards, but they are much bigger rivals with each other. Our current inter league rivalry with the Twins is sort of a joke. In the AL days we had big rivalries with teams like the White Sox and Tigers that I wouldn't mind seeing revived. We'd still play the Cubs and Cardinals occasionally, and not have to deal with their fans overrunning Miller Park with regularity.
