    It feels kind of gimmicky to me. I don't really see the point.

    I don't blame the Brewers for not wanting to sign him to a long term extension, and I don't necessarily blame Lucroy for perhaps feeling miffed about it. The Brewers aren't a franchise right now that should be locking up guys in their mid-peak years to long term deals. If Lucroy were four or five years younger, it would be a different story.

    I don't think they are. They still know they have the fourth worst record in MLB (or thereabouts). 42-52 record, 9 games back in the Wild Card.

    Realistically, he might get one pinch hit appearance. Odds of him playing in the outfield or getting a second AB?

    Moderator Note: Everyone, let's try to keep focus of this thread on Braun's All-Star Game appearance and not rehash the PED thing yet again. If you want to discuss if he's going to get booed or not, that's fine, but let's not go into the whole scandal thing here.

    Good point. I still feel that nationally, most people have probably pretty much forgotten about the Braun PED scandal. By the way, this will be Braun's sixth All-Star appearance. I _think_ that makes him the all time franchise leader for All-Star selections as a Milwaukee Brewer (Paul Molitor had a total of seven in his career, but two were with Toronto...Cecil Cooper had five with Milwaukee).

    Just announced: Ryan Braun is in, replacing the injured Matt Holliday. Personally, I'm happy he's in. Good to have two Brewers in, instead of just one.

    I assume you meant "after the All-Star break." If he really meant "until after the July 31st trade deadline," then I'd be furious.

    People keep saying this, but I'm curious what it's really based on? People keep bringing up Joe Mauer, but there have been catchers who have stayed behind the dish their entire careers and done just fine. I think people are just kind of assuming the worst without it really being based on anything but fear.

    I don't understand the angst over what he said. He isn't saying anything people in the fan base or his teammates aren't already aware of.

    Yeah, I really can't see any team wanting to trade for Lohse at this point. Just suck it up and cut the cord already.

    Bernie is great. The real Hank is great. The mascot Hank is terrible.

    That might well be, and if so, it's a lot more troubling...because there's really nothing that can be done to correct the situation. It will be like the last 13 or so years of Herb Kohl's ownership of the Bucks. It doesn't matter how many times you change the head coach or the GM. If the owner is going to meddle that deeply with the team, then you generally aren't going to be a successful franchise. Even the New York Yankees, with all their money and resources, didn't become a great franchise again until George Steinbrenner finally took his hands off the wheel and let Brian Cashman run the show. I think that is what this team needs...we need a young GM with new ideas, who Attanasio will give full control to. What we've been doing the past three years sure hasn't worked out.

    Right. And if he gets booed...who really cares? It's not like Ryan Braun is made of glass and it's going to affect his psyche at this point.

    I find it hard to swallow the idea that the team should have traded Hardy after 2008. Escobar wasn't really ready at that point...I believe he was still in AA for most of the 2008 season. Anyway, Doug Melvin did trade Hardy eventually, and got a more than good return in Gomez, so I'm not sure why JJ Hardy is a point of contention anyway. Also, after 2008, the team was coming off it's first playoff apperance in 26 years and the future looked bright. The team should have focused on somehow acquiring another starting pitcher, rather than trying to make Gallardo and Manny Parra carry the load, but that's neither here nor there. re: Prince Fielder, it's obvious Melvin tried to trade him multiple times and wasn't able to work out a deal that made sense. You can argue he was trying to get too much for him, or whatever, but none of us really truly know what was presented in any of those trade talks. I stand by my earlier statements that the team should have gone into rebuild mode after 2012. I don't fault them for trading for Greinke/Marcum and "going for it" in 2011/2012. The timing was right, in my view. Since then, though, this team hasn't seemed to have any real direction. We're just patching holes while Braun, Lucroy, etc. get older and more injury prone.

    I don't think baseball fans nationally really care anymore about the Braun PED thing... At least to the extent that some on this board seem to think.

    I think Braun will be it. K-Rod could be a late addition to replace an injured or unavailable reliever.

    Exactly. He's playing very well, but not someone to build around and not with that kind of salary to the Brewers. I hope Melvin does the smart thing and deals him.

    I don't understand waiting until the end of the season. Obviously, a move like this is inevitable. Why not allow Montgomery (or whoever) to get his feet wet now?
