  1. "Is Joe Girardi on the hot seat in New York?"
  2. Agree, except for the ice part, like NMF pointed out. The thing is in shows like "Mad Men", they pretty much literally never use ice. Is that how a lot of people drank their cocktails in the '60s?
  3. I don't think there's a need for a big roster shakeup or something radical like trying to reinvent Weeks as an MLB outfielder at this point. Hopefully the pitching stays like how it's been and the offense is good enough to keep them in it until Braun is back in about a week.
  4. They do this on Mad Men all the time. Didn't they have ice buckets in the 1960's? Nothing more refreshing than a straight up room temperature Scotch!
  5. The downside is probably injury risk. Years ago, Jose Canseco got hurt pitching an inning of relief for the Rangers. Of course, it was probably dumb of Kevin Kennedy to use a star player like that.
  6. I noticed the MLB radio channel really declined after the XM/Sirius merger. I don't regret cancelling my subscription after reading stuff like your post.
  7. I don't really care at this point if ESPN or whoever is paying attention or not. We're never going to get covered like the Yankees/Red Sox. So what?
  8. Wish I hadn't fallen asleep before the end of this one, but I was glad to wake up and see they got the win. Go Crew!
  9. Well, I have to assume $60 million was around the top limit of what the Brewers were comfortable spending. Maybe Abreu didn't even want to come to Milwaukee...hard to say. We can't wring out hands over every free agent signing the Brewers miss out on.
  10. Save Our Bucks http://saveourbucks.com/urban-myths-popped-week/ has a pretty good article up about some of the "urban myths" that have come up regarding the team and the stadium debate. Worth a read.
  11. Do we know if Segura and Braun are available to at least pinch hit, or are both completely unavailable today?
  12. I remember hearing from a friend who had connections to people "in the know" when Sutton left, that he and Rock did not get along at all.
  13. I was referring to the Upper Deck one. I have the Donruss Rated Rookie one, but let's face it...people consider the Upper Deck '89 card the "real" Griffey rookie card.
  14. I don't even know what Perfect Game is. Sounds like his career has taken quite the tumble.
  15. re: Provus, I thought he was every bit as good as Jim Powell, if not maybe even a bit better. I really liked him and I was deeply disappointed that he only stuck around a couple seasons. You are right that Block seems to interact well with Uecker...unfortunately they are only in the booth together for basically a couple innings a game (I think...I usually don't listen to the entire game on the radio). Maybe Block would be better as part of a full-time two man team.
  16. Is he even still working as an announcer? I think he may have burned a lot of bridges the past few years.
  17. Maybe they'd try the very rare radio/TV "simulcast", but I'm not sure if current TV and radio contracts would even allow that.
  18. I like Anderson a lot, but I also like Lepay a lot, though the little mistakes are a bit irritating (I'm pretty sure he mistook Lucroy for Braun the other day, as an example)...I know those will go away the more games he calls, though. I think Brewers fans don't realize how fortunate we've been to have had so many good announcers on both TV and radio over the years. Having a guy like Uecker around for decades just doesn't happen anymore. I know some people don't like Bill Schroeder, but he is head and shoulders above so many commentators out there in sports that it's ridiculous. The only current guy we have that I don't care too much for is Joe Block. He is OK as far as play by play, but he sounds so monotone and unenthusiastic that he almost puts me to sleep.
  19. The Cardinals always seem to find some way to get back into it. Remember August 2011 when the Brewers beat the Cards 2-out-of-3 in St. Louis, and it seemed like the Cards were finished? We all remember how that season finished.
  20. Yeah, I have to disagree with the "games are hard to get to" opinions. My wife and I went to a Bucks game two and a half years ago...literally the first Bucks game I had been to in about twenty years. We live in Jefferson County, and it was really no problem at all parking and going into the game. Decent crowd that night too, so it's not like attendance was low and that made it easier.
  21. Yes. MLB realized the baseball card market was ridiculously over-saturated, so they sold exclusive rights to Topps (which owns Bowman, Allen & Ginter, etc). I think I read there were something like 50 different Albert Pujols rookie cards, which shows how insane it was getting. Compare that to there only being one real Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card just about 20 years earlier.
  22. A couple years ago I was really into the Allen & Ginter sets, which are really novel and have a "painted" look to them. Almost every pack is going to have something weird or different in them.
  23. Disappointing the offense couldn't really wake up at the right times. Gallardo pitched well enough that this team should have been able to get the win at home. Segura is looking due for a AAA stint. It's like his power has completely evaporated. I expect either a strikeout or groundout every time he's at bat. A .232 batting average doesn't cut it.
  24. It brings the frustration and stupidity of college poll rankings into pro sports that don't need them.
  25. Brewers also matched the Bucks' season win total tonight.
