  1. Sounds like Craig Counsel could be the one to fill in, with Joe Block.
  2. As I just said on Twitter, I had firmly been in the "rebuild" camp. However, it's clear that Attanasio and the Brewers refuse to go that route...so I'd rather have a pitcher like Garza than not. Hopefully the worst case is if the Brewers have a bad season, he stays healthy, pitches well, and can be traded.
  3. All good to hear so far. It sounds today like the holdup is not a medical issue and more of a contract one. We'll see. The stories and rumors seem to flip flop on a daily basis at this point.
  4. Let's use this thread for news and other tidbits from today's On Deck fan event. People who are attending can post their experiences, etc. In somewhat major breaking news, Brian Anderson just announced that Badgers announcer Matt Lepay will be his fill-in when BA is doing games for TBS.
  5. He turns 79 today. (Edit: Actually 80 years old, per corrections released today.)
  6. Wallus, I have about 12 years sales experience. PM me and give me a better idea of what you're looking for and I can maybe at least give you some tips.
  7. Ditto, but I've petty much hated Winter my entire adult life anyway. It's just a big inconvenience as far as I'm concerned.
  8. Really hope this deal doesn't fall through...not hearing much chatter about it this morning either way. I'm guessing they are just hashing out the final details, like no-trade clause, etc. At least I hope that's the case.
  9. The actually already retired #50 to honor Uecker's 50 years in baseball.
  10. I like the deal. If the Brewers are completely terrible, it should be a very tradeable contract, assuming Garza stays healthy and performs similar to how he has the past 3-4 seasons. I was definitely surprised. I figured the only free agent signings the Brewers would make this off-season would be of the one year veteran filler variety.
  11. I wouldn't mind Spahn (#21) and Matthews' (#41) numbers retired. Both were huge parts of Milwaukee baseball history, even though they never played for the Brewers...though I'd have to go back and look to see what players have worn their respective numbers since then, as that could be possibly problematic.
  12. Yeah, because he was the only guy in the Hall of Fame from that era who did cocaine, right? Kinda like most players in this era are "probably" using some form of PED? *shrug* I'm of the opinion that if your stats are deserving and you aren't banned from baseball, you should be voted into the Hall of Fame regardless of whatever speculation or supposed "character issues." I just hate that Molitor's cocaine use has to get brought up every time he's discussed, just like someone always has to mention "Hank Aaron took greenies" (in actuality he admitted to trying them only once in his autobiography) whenever he is brought up in relation to PEDs, etc.
  13. If Braun put up another small handful of very good seasons and makes the Hall of Fame (or at least HoF level...who knows if voters will ever forgive him?), yes, his number will be retired. I wouldn't really be big on Hoffman having his number retired, but I wouldn't hate it either. I could see it happening simply for the fact that it's obvious Mark Attanasio had a huge man crush on him while he was here and he got to 600 saves as a Brewer. The Brewers have set the retired number bar extremely high, and I think that's the way it should be. People like Jenkins and Cirillo should be on the Walk of Fame. Jim Gantner played his whole career in Milwaukee and was well loved, but even he has never had his number officially retired.
  14. I guess the Yankees aren't taking heed of how Dice-K worked out for Boston.
  15. Yeah, because he was the only guy in the Hall of Fame from that era who did cocaine, right?
  16. I agree. I don't like the "let's try and see if we can catch lightning in a bottle!" approach to contention. Ron Roenicke has already basically admitted they need everything to break their way this season in order to compete. I wonder what Mr. Attanasio is thinking.
  17. I like Aquamail (app), but I'm not sure it will do everything you want. I believe they offer a free trial version of it, though.
  18. All right guys. Let's plan on March 22nd at 7 PM at Friday's at Miller Park. I will call as soon as I have time to make reservations. If you haven't responded in this thread yet and are going to plan on coming, please reply in this thread to help give me a rough head count.
  19. Payroll did seem a little more even a couple years back. Things have just exploded over the last couple offseasons. Just after we signed a new TV deal that looked like we were heading in the right direction. That was the point I was making. I think we were at least a mid market team the past few season, but that isn't the case anymore. The team's ownership and management need to adapt, and quick, or we are going to be in for an extended run of disappointing baseball seasons.
  20. Yeah, there had been rumors I guess about the American Wolves coming in to TNA, and I guess this basically confirms it...unless this is just some weird swerve.
  21. This is yet another sign that the Brewers are once again a small market team. We can't possibly hope to rely on veterans and free agent signings if Milwaukee is going to compete.
  22. Yeah, having been down there once for Spring Training, it seems like that would be a great plan (moving to Scottsdale). The idea of teaming with the Astros to get a new facility built is intriguing and I hope the Brewers are at least exploring it. Really hope the wife and I can get back down there someday, though it will probably be at least a couple years at this point.
  23. Brewers have reportedly signed LHP Zach Duke to a minor league deal, with an invite to MLB spring training.
  24. He deserves it, but that's still crazy money. Edit: Apparently the Brewers just countered this move by signing Zach Duke to a MiLB deal.
