  1. Nice pitching by Shouse, just bad fielding by Shouse. Two weak grounders and then Ks the Kid.
  2. Wow, that couldn't have turned out much worse.
  3. Just wondering if anybody else watched any of the Oregon State vs. Stanford series on ESPN and saw Cole Gillespie play? From what I saw (as much as you can gather from watching just 3 at-bats) he looks pretty much as advertised. A pretty imposing, strong right-handed swinger. He looks pretty focused up there and seems to have a nice line-drive swing. The guy is having an incredible year at the plate and hopefully he continues it on through to the Championship game. Anybody else have some better insight on Cole from watching him lately?
  4. If we can get Anundsen and a few of these other high school pitchers to sign, that would be a lot of interesting and exciting 17-19 year old pitching prospects to watch this summer: Jeremy Jeffress Will Inman Steve Garrison Rolando Pasqual Zach Braddock (DFE from last year's draft we signed) Wily Peralta Roque Mercedes Alexandre Periard Keep the signing updates coming!
  5. Was anybody else a little surprised that the Brewers did not select a catcher in the first 3 or 4 rounds? Rather, they chose to address catcher picks as the draft went on. In looking at Colby's catcher profiles on the homepage, it seemed like there were a lot of solid catcher prospects in the 2-4 round range. Somebody like say a Tartamella or Langley. Once they passed on Conger and Sapp, I was hoping for a catcher with one of next few picks. Nothing against the guys we did take in rounds 2-5 or the catchers we took later on. Bouchie and Whiteside look like really good players. But personally I was hoping they would address the catching position a little bit earlier on. It's my only real criticism, albeit probably a weak one, with the draft.
  6. We now have a Brewer (Brent) and a Crew (Ryan) in our farm system. I like it.
  7. It looks like Andy Clark won't be signing. As per the article provided in the thread with his profile: "I've already talked to people and told them I'm going to go to Ole Miss for three years and see what happens," Clark said. "I'm going to prove to people I'll be a first-round pick (in 2009)." Clark, a first baseman who had heard he might go as early as the third round, monitored the early rounds before spending the afternoon with friends. He said he talked to a Brewers scout soon after he was selected. "He could tell I was kind of upset," Clark said. "He just told me to calm down. I'm determined to go down there (Ole Miss) and show them something." Which made me wonder, do teams draft players knowing full well that they won't sign them? I guess it would be pretty ridiculous to draft 50 guys who want to sign right away. Anundsen and Robinson are next on my Wish List.
  8. Sorry about the random stat, but: Freddy Sanchez and Jose Castillo went a combined 4 for 32 against these same Padres at PNC in a 3 game series right after the Pirates swept the Crew.
  9. I can't tell if I am in fact excited for tonight's game or if I'm excited for the MLB draft tomorrow. Either way, I feel pretty good going into tonight's game. Good vibes.
  10. He did just hit a monster two-run homer two days ago in the Brewers 6-2 win over the Reds. But yeah, he is struggling a bit lately. I was personally a little surprised he swung at that first pitch. It seems that Carlos' forte is to take on the first pitch a lot. But that's probably just an incorrect perception on my part.
  11. Greeg35, just to let you know, the same exact thing is happening to me.
  12. Well, in light of what happened to the parent club tonight, Chris Barnwell just became a little bit more interesting. Question: Who is 3rd on the organizational depth chart at SS behind JJ Hardy and Bill Hall? Is it Barnwell? Do Abernathy or J. Clark play any SS? Edit: I just noticed that there is a thread about this in the Major League forum. Nevermind. Sorry about that.
  13. Did any of you just catch the top of th 5th inning pitch sequence to Barry Bonds in the Giants/Astros game? Giants up 11-3 in the top of the 5th in Houston: 1st pitch: thrown behind Bonds - pitcher gets warned. 2nd pitch: would have hit Bonds in the knee had he not jumped back. 3rd pitch: almost hits Bonds again, but instead hits off the knob of the bat for a foul ball. 4th pitch: high and tight to Bonds. 5th pitch: hits Bonds in the back - pitcher gets tossed and receives a standing ovation from the Houston fans. Bonds didn't even flinch during the whole at-bat (except of course when he was almost getting hit).
  14. I would just like to voice my frustration that tonight's game won't be on FSN North. Sellout crowd, Eveland making his first start of the year after dominating AAA for a month, and coming off a pretty cool victory last night. I would have really liked to have seen this game. It'll be interesting to see what Eveland has for us tonight. He wasn't very impressive when he was called up last year. He also wasn't very good in spring training. So his spectacular start in AAA has sort of caught me off guard and I'm really interested to see how he does tonight especially in front of a huge crowd. By the way, Dana is still only 22 years old.
  15. If you don't know the answer to the question posed in this thread title, a baseball is already being hurled at your head courtesy of Bill Hall.
  16. Just for the record, that was NOT a catch by in right field. So instead of having no outs and runners on 1st and 2nd, there are two outs and nobody on. And to add insult to injury, Koskie slaps a single with two outs. Definitely not the Brewers night. I'm not sure which stadium I hate more, Minute Maid or Petco.
  17. Personally, I would like to see some mock drafts. Just so that I can get a rough idea of what people are thinking that the Brewers are going to be looking at with their pick. With pitchers this year, it seems like such a crapshoot - I'm having a difficult time distinguishing the pitchers from one another. As far as drafting a high school pitcher, I would prefer that the Brewers don't. It seems to me that the Brewers are already going to have several highly touted "high school" pitchers in Arizona and Helena this summer with Rolando Pasqual, Wily Peralta, and Jose Romero. Draft interest waning a bit this year for Brewer fans also probably has something to do with the perception that the parent club is better and that there are less holes to fill. I also have to admit that my interest may not be quite as high as last year because of the lower pick. But that doesn't make much sense because a team can obviously still get a high impact player outside of the top six or seven picks. I'm such a novice with the MLB draft too. I sort of wait for the draft to happen and then anxiously wait to hear the breakdowns of those players on this site from the experts. On the other hand, this thread has inspired me to do a little bit of research on the Brewerfan frontpage and compile a short Most Wanted list.
  18. And That, the dodgerblues message board is insane. Some pretty "colorful" posters on there. I'm sure there is some really good baseball discussion in there somewhere; I just couldn't make it very far into any of those threads. If you are at all offended by any swearing or just nasty, innappropriate language in general, do not go there. And as far as the moderators, let's just say that the brewerfan moderators take a little bit of a different angle when dealing with posters.
  19. The Mark Rogers Experience rolls on. 3 Ks, 3BBs, no runs...and that's just the 1st inning.
  20. That's it. I owe it to Sheeter and the Crew to go to the game tomorrow. I'm getting out of work early and going to the game. See ya there.
  21. Tomo threw 64 pitches. Sutton just said that he has a right rotator cuff strain.
  22. Nice simile COOOOP...or is that a metaphor? Didn't see that one coming. A bit of an unlucky DP by Brady there. He hit it square, just right at the thirdbaseman. Nice turn by the Cubs. Wild Pitch and another run. Keep'em coming.
  23. I guess the Brewers wanted to drive in runs with doubles today instead of home runs.
  24. Does Zambrano usually work this quickly? His stuff looks sort of nasty today and he's not wasting any time. Couple that with the ump giving him that outside corner and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10K performance. Won't matter though because the Brewers will still win.
  25. Funny, I was refraining from posting as well as I didn't want to jinx him either. Wow, what a refreshing and dominating start for Rogers. Definitely dulls the pain of the Brewers loss. Molitor Fan, I got to be honest, I wasn't really aware of Dave Johnson, but he has been pretty solid. Big guy with a consistently good K:BB ratio. Speaking of more good performances so far tonight, check out Lorenzo Cain's line so far: 3-3, 1 HR, 2 SBs
