  1. I guess your options are: boo, write a letter, boycott the Brewers by not buying tickets/merchandise, heckle players/management at the game or in public if you encounter them, etc. You are obviously "allowed" to do any of that - nobody is arguing that you're not. If you think that any of that makes a difference or makes you feel better, then by all means do it. Booing your own players does not make me feel better and I do not personally believe it makes a positive impact on the team, so I choose not to boo. Who knows though, maybe I should.
  2. I was there tonight. My impression was polite applause with a smattering of standing O's. I couldn't hear any booing from where my seat was.
  3. If I'm not mistaken, you can also go inside the Club Level too and bask in the air conditioning if it gets too hot outside (my mom liked this about the 300 level). Another thing that I'll throw out there is what me and a few friends do every once in a while. Get the cheapest ticket available and just walk around the park for most of the game. I find Miller Park to be pretty good as far as sight lines from the concourse areas. They have little tables and stools all over the place on the first and second level concourses as well as behind some of the bleachers. I will warn you though that a lot of the time these tables and stools are occupied by other fans, but if you get there a little early and walk around, you should be able to find something. Once you get tired of that, just move to a different area and lean against a rail and watch the game. Not for everybody, but just a suggestion if you want to try and take in the whole ballpark during a game.
  4. Who was the outfielder who would slap his glove against his thigh a bunch of times before catching the ball? Or am I imagining things?
  5. "Strange Brew" for Eric Gagne - he's Canadian, he's comes off as a little odd to me out there on the mound, and he's on the Brewers "Purple Reign" for Prince "The Suture" for David Riske - you know, he stops the bleeding, or at least hopefully he will (I know it's stupid)
  6. Seems slow to me too. Santana's fastball has been sitting 85-87 mph. Unless that's normal for him.
  7. And if Kelly's Bleachers is anything like last year, on Tuesday nights they have Country Line Dancing. Watch a Brewers game and then go line dancing. What could possibly be better? Personally, I'm still not coordinated enough to do the Electric Slide and I've been to about 20 weddings, so line dancing isn't exactly my thing.
  8. A little bit of a bump here. It's obviously early, but my first impression of Riske was very positive. Also, I thought that TGJ and Hart both played extremely well in the outfield today despite the conditions. Finally, I don't think that Yost really did anything grossly wrong today.
  9. I agree with SeriesFinale. Nsbb.com is a lot like this site except that I would say the tone is a little more sarcastic over there. Reading a few threads, they mostly seem a little annoyed that Theriot is on the team, starting, and batting lead-off right now.
  10. I was at BW3's downtown today. There was a decent crowd that was pretty into the game. I like BBC too, as well as any bar on Bluemound near the stadium. Thurman's off of Brady is cool if you are a hippie and like the Brewers. Some places I plan on checking out this season: Fanatics, Zim's, Hooligan's, Bar Louie downtown, maybe a few more right on or off of Water St. I'm always looking for new places to check out though. I know this is Mr. Obvious talking, but unless the Brewers are right in the thick of contention, you will be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of Brewers fans together at a bar in Milwaukee. Sometimes I like nothing more than watching the Brewers from the comfort of my own couch at home. And other times I just need to be in the presence of other Brewers fans.
  11. Do you think that it's possible that booing, even if it's justified, can have a negative impact on some of the player's psyche and perception of the Milwaukee and its fans? My answer to this question is yes, so that is my rationalization for not booing. It trumps my need to "voice my displeasure." I can't think of one positive thing that can happen when booing your own players. As the season went along last year, there was this anticipation of booing just hovering around Miller Park (although maybe that was just the anticipation of blowing 3-6 run leads). I didn't like it and hope it does not continue. Please note that I am not arguing your right to boo, nor am I looking down on anybody who does unless that person is just being a boorish prick about it. I guess I personally just do not understand the rationale of why.
  12. Having seen the most recent episode of South Park, I've been thinking of Heavy Metal lately. Call it: "The Loc-Nar" a.k.a The Sum of All Evils
  13. Man in the Box - Alice in Chains
  14. I really enjoyed the Grand Cayman Island. Calm, crystal clear waters that are excellent for snorkeling or scuba diving. On the West side of the island, you will find Seven Mile Beach and it's a little bit more touristy, but great beaches nonetheless and that's where you need to go for the best snorkeling/scuba. The East side is a little more isolated. It's a smallish island, so you can probably explore most of it in a week if you are so inclined. I also hear it's a great place to go if you have a little money laundering to do.
  15. Is Chris Berman the Nickelback of sports announcers? Sorry, I couldn't resist. I don't care for him. I agree with everybody else so far in this thread. But I still long for the days of NFL Primetime over Football Night in America. FNA (geez, is that ever an appropriate acronym) is way too winded. Just give me the damn highlights, quick and dirty! You're with me, Highlights.
  16. I can see how Wins would be an OK, quick measurement while looking at the overall career of a pitcher. But when looking at Wins by a year-to-year basis or even over a span of a few years, I think just looking at Wins can be misleading. Then I would definitely take into consideration Run Support and Defense.
  17. In trying to measure durability and dependability, wouldn't it be better to look at Games Started and Innings Pitched, and then comparing those amounts to league averages for starters, rather than using Wins? I could see how Wins could very loosely tell me if a pitcher is durable or not over the course of time. But I think you should dig deeper than that. To me, Wins are just too team dependent when trying to delve into evaluating an individual pitcher.
  18. Oswalt has 21 more wins over the last three years because he has started 36 more games over the last three years...and because he is better than Sheets. If you gave Sheets an additional 36 starts to match Oswalt's, Sheets would probably have another 16 wins or so, giving him a total of 44 wins. I don't see how JB's statement proves that wins are a good pitching stat. All his statement proves is that Oswalt is a better, more durable pitcher who has pitched 36 more games than Sheets has over the last three years. I don't think that anybody would argue that Oswalt has been a better, more valuable pitcher than Sheets.

  22. But what jerkish things did he do after he obtained his wealth? It seemed to me he just continued to be a clueless idiot who didn't know what to do with his money, but was never really a jerk. A jerk to me is somebody who is intentionally mean-spirited and overly selfish, and I don't think that ever described Steve Martin's character. Maybe there are some scenes I am forgetting. I haven't seen the movie in years. Edit: I just think that "The Idiot" or "The Moron" would have been a much more fitting title. But I did just look up the word "jerk" in the dictionary and it can be slang for: a contemptibly naive, fatuous, foolish, or inconsequential person. So, yeah, I guess that could describe him. I just have a little bit different definition in my own head I suppose.
  23. I've never agreed with the movie title for "The Jerk" starring Steve Martin. To me, Steve Martin's character in that movie was more of a naive idiot, but I wouldn't call him a jerk.
  24. The police/paramedics immediately recognize that the surviving guard is Hannibal Lecter with somebody else's badly mangled face on top of his own. "Lecter? Is that you? You have got to be kidding me! You didn't honestly think that would work did you!?!?" one of the police/paramedics asks incredulously. Upon being found out, Lecter sits up quickly and tries to escape. He is shot and killed immediately. Later, at Buffalo Bill's house, once he realizes that he has been discovered by Clarice, Buffalo Bill attempts to make a dash for his basement. Clarice shoots and kills him immediately. A butterfly lands on a bottle of Chianti in the corner of the kitchen. Fade to black.
  25. I think what last night's game did was just about guarantee that Duke will be a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. That's assuming that Duke beats North Carolina at Cameron - yeah, I know that's not exactly an automatic victory for Duke, but they are now in the "driver's seat" because even if North Carolina beats them at Cameron, that would probably be Duke's only ACC loss compared to North Carolina's at least two losses. North Carolina now has a more uphill battle for a #1 - although I would hope that the seeding commission takes into account the fact that they played without Lawson. Stevo, I am also disappointed that Paulus is having a good year - he's made great strides since his freshman year. But I'm sure it helps to be surrounded by incredible talent. He's the one Duke player this year that I don't like. Which is odd, because I usually can't stand Duke. And wow, that is amazing that they've never met in the NCAA tournament.
