  1. Another question I have is, did Knight always flip out on the refs, grab and yell at his players on the sidelines, and have this surly persona with the media? Or did it only happen when he stopped winning championships? A lot of the footage I see of him from the 70's and early 80's, he seemed much more humble and personable, and genuinely happy. Does anybody recollect what the general opinion of him was during that time? Was it the same as it has been the last 15 years or so? The guy just seems to absolutely despise the college basketball machine and media.
  2. Is it possible that Knight only stuck around this year to get his 900th win? Kind of like Sutton going to San Fransisco just to get his 800th win this year? Both those situations sort of irk me a little bit. I respect what Knight has done though. Obviously one of the best ever - you can't deny what he's done. But I've never liked him and have found the act he puts on with the media and his tirades with the refs and his players to be embarrassing. Just seems like the game passed him by 10 years ago. The coaching fraternity seems to love him though and says he's a great guy, but that is not the impression that he gives on camera and in the news, at least to me. In his defense though, if the media was constantly hounding me and egging me on, I probably would lose it in front of cameras too every once in a while.
  3. Yeah, I agree RyDogg (I love your new title by the way). It bugs me that the countless hours spent by Hall and Braun practicing and playing CF and 3B respectively last year will in no way contribute to the success of this year's team. If anything, by delaying their defensive growth at 3B and LF respectively, that right there could be the difference between winning or losing a few games this year - you never know. Not to mention the time put in by numerous coaches last year during Spring Training and the regular season helping those two guys defensively. It just seems like a lot of wasted effort. But I can't worry about all that right now. That is the past. I need to focus on the current season. I just needed to do a little venting.
  4. For better or for worse: Positional changes. They just irritate me. Moving lifelong infielders to the outfield, and in some cases back again to the infield, but only to play a spot where they have not logged a ton of innings. In a perfect world, I want the players to be absolutely comfortable with their defensive position when they make the major league club. I don't like it when Brewers have to "learn-as-they-go" once the season starts. I just think it's possible that learning a new defensive position adversely affects a player's offensive game. That could be a totally irrational fear I have - one that I can't back up. But I think that it's at least plausible.
  5. Apparently the best place to find urban cougars in Milwaukee is at Victor's or in Madison at Lucky's Bar and Grill (see link), just in case you can't get close enough to one in the wild: http://www.urbancougar.com/dens_wi.php
  6. Brewcrew, I still don't understand why you feel sorry for Benoit's family and friends, but with Ledger's situation you say: Sort of boggling my mind. Care to expand on that?
  7. one of the guys from XTC?
  8. It is an absolute pleasure to watch Villanueva pitch. His control is exquisite. Yes, I said exquisite.
  9. Josh, I'd be interested in buying one of your Charlie Moore pinstripes. Unforturnately, I don't really have anything to trade right now. Let me know if you are willing to sell. Thanks.
  10. X, Zarranga was the one guy who clearly stuck out to me in the later rounds for the Brewers too. He seems like an incredible athlete with good size. Unfortunately, the first thing I thought when I saw where we drafted him was, "There is no way this guy signs." It seemed like a token "this guy probably won't sign but we'll take a flyer on him anyways" sort of pick. But yeah, he looks like an awesome catching prospect.
  11. How about "Big Trouble In Little China." Jack Burton's driving the Porkchop Express into the night and that one hell-demon had hitched a ride - what happens next? Man, I wish they made a sequel to that movie...six demon bag...Lopan...girl with green eyes...it's all in the reflexes...
  12. Former Brewers DFE Tim Smith picked in round 7 by the Rangers. Kentrail Davis picked in the 14th round by the Rockies.
  13. Colby, are you at all disappointed that the Brewers went with Lucroy instead of Lars Davis at catcher? Davis went right after Lucroy in the draft and I know you had Davis pegged as one of your "picks" in your Draft Preview article. Also, a few notable names that seemed to fall were Kyle Russell and Jake Arrieta. Does this mean that Russell is all but guaranteed to go back to college for his Junior year at Texas?
  14. When does the Draft start? MLB.com says that coverage starts at 1 pm CST. I wasn't sure if that meant that that's when the actual drafting starts.
  15. The second picture looks so strange to me. The only players you can see on the field are th catcher and Taylor Green sliding into home. Where are all the other players? Cool pics - nice work.
  16. Colby, before you updated your top 30 today, I had sort of pegged Michael Burgess as "my guy" for the Brewers to go after. Any particular reason why Burgess has fallen a bit in your latest top 30?
  17. I think that it is also important to point out that Braun has a robust 1.954 OPS against lefties in 16 ABs. Small sample size, but it's fun to just type that OPS - I couldn't help myself. Ryan Braun likes lefties And Woogie, you're a God among men. Nice work.
  18. Peavey, I hate to say it but I seem to remember them being 51-44 about three years ago and only winning about 17 or so games after that.
  19. I just talked to a buddy who is in the Left Field Bleachers at Wrigley and he said that you can barely feel the rain. He said we should finish it no problem.
  20. Is it weird that I'm excited about the Hinton/Thatcher bullpen duo in Huntsville? Those two guys are showing a lot of promise. They give me hope that they'll be able to contribute in the Brewers bullpen within the next couple years.
  21. That game was - to quote Jim Rome - "Epic."
  22. Yeah, I don't remember anybody clamoring for him either. I was just trying to think if there was a college pitcher who, with 20/20 hindsight, may have been a better pick than Jeffress. And I really can't come up with anybody for the 1st round off the top of my head.
  23. No real opinion on the matter, but were any of you Brewer fans interested in Daniel Bard last year? If the Brewers hadn't picked Jeffress, wasn't Bard sort of considered the best college pitcher available? The only reason I even bring this up is that I noticed that Bard topped the "Not So Hot List" this past week.
  24. Mass, good call on Luis Ramirez. He's definitely on my West Virginia radar right now (along with Braddock who forced himself onto our radars with his 12K performance). He's a solid pitcher right now on the West Virginia staff, and if my math is correct, he does not even turn 19 for another two weeks. Some young, lanky, left handed pitching talent in West Virgina right now. Cool.
  25. PrimetimeHater, if I'm not mistaken, the Brewers actually drafted Andrew Clark out of high school last year. Right? The only think I remember about that kid was that, according to quotes in a post-draft article, he was really upset, almost insulted, that he was not taken higher in last year's draft. I was a little turned off by him. Needless to say he was not thankful that the Brewers drafted him and had no intention of signing with them.
