    He put up the second highest OPS in league and better numbers last year other than Braun of the Brewers you mentioned. I don’t know why you keep aggregating his numbers when he put up a .876 OPS last year. Now you are saying he’s old and someone pointed out he’s still younger than the average age for the league. Wilken has his flaws but those aren’t the arguments you are making.

    The club option is more there so his contract can't be used for future arbitration comparisons. Also sometimes they do it to defer the money a year essentially if there's money on the declined option ie a guy wants 10 mil, team puts in 9 and you make a deal for them to take 9 and 500k on the decline rather than paying him 9.5 outright.

    He makes a lot more sense than McGuire to me since he can platoon with Yelich at DH and at that price yeah sure whatever.

    Considering last year we started with Oliver Dunn at third and Durbin had a horrendous May, the home opener was Elvin Rodriguez and the rotation was throwing Civale, the corpse of Fedde out there etc, I feel WAY better about the state of the roster and depth. Not that I want to repeat any of that from last year, but the bullpen is deeper imo and we can go really deep with starters where we can rotate a ton of young upside guys in before you'd have to start scraping the bottom of the barrel veterans. I do have open questions on the infield to start the season especially since I don't see them starting the service time clock on guys like Jett yet, but not really concerned. You don't need to answer these questions before the start of the season and if no one emerges, it's ok to trade for a guy in June.

    Agreed but as mentioned above 3rd base is a dire position leaguewide and honestly I'd say basically every position is, especially when it comes to power. And if you do have someone, you definitely aren't trading them unless it is a rental or they have warts. But I think the Brewers have recognized the power scarcity so you trade for prospects and draft hitters high in the draft, which they have done. Now you just gotta hope one of Fischer, Wilken, Adams, Adamsczewski, Burke etc actually hit because you aren't getting MLB guys, it is too big of a premium.

    Right and I think it is important to note he was directly asked if Frelick is an option, instead of bringing him up on his own, and gave the canned we are open to anything and we know Frelick is game for anything. But in the end the most important part was your quote that he expects him to continue to be a Gold Glove outfielder.

    He’s had injury issues every single year as a professional: 2021: Missed nearly two months with a left knee injury. 2022: Sidelined by an oblique injury. 2023: Suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder sliding into third base; underwent surgery. 2024: Fractured his left index finger during Spring Training, delaying his season debut until July 1. 2025: Suffered a left oblique strain in April, followed by a season-ending left shoulder injury in June requiring his second surgery in three years.

    Not really they just had homegrown talent that progressed to arbitration so they went from rock bottom payrolls to a normal small market competitive payroll similar to the Brewers when they won in 2015. And their big free agent signing Gil Meche did not turn out well for them.

    I think Kileys top 100 that came out explains it well enough. Pratt is looking like an everyday shortstop and that makes him a solid top 100 prospect. Meanwhile Made is compared to Lindor but is basically an incomparable package with an unlimited ceiling. So it’s not that Pratt has lost any shine, it’s just Made on his way to being the best prospect in the game.

    Maybe wishful thinking on my part that I can go see him again in Appleton. :) Definitely will be buying some cold weather early season tickets just in case.

    If Jett isn't playing CF because of not liking what they see out of Ortiz in ST or whatever, I think the likeliest and easiest thing to do is have him at SS in AAA and just keep Pratt at AA. There's not a much of a difference between AA and AAA these days and it's not like Pratt's bat earned him a no doubt promotion last year either. Then whatever happens in the season will happen but I assume then Pratt will be at SS at AAA later in the season ideally.

    They do get hired but one guy ain't gonna cause a culture change that has a terrible owner, yes men in the front office, coaches with their own agenda etc. Think of any company and how well departments align with each other and it's the same problem here. And as alluded to, the real key is most likely Hook who can take the analytics, have the right coaching staff, and get buy in from the players. Some orgs like to say they are data driven but the Brewers staff have preached they are data informed, and that kind of blended approach is exceedingly hard to get everyone onboard with unless you have strong leadership setting a proper culture.

    It's because it's not really a method but a culture. Yes you can replicate the lab that outputs a ton of data, but does what the lab interprets and recommend align with the coaching staff, the player and the front office so that it is properly executed? That is exceedingly rare to come across. It's a crapton of data and it's not like things are blatantly obvious what the change should be, where to start, how to go about implementing that change, is it a whole sequence of changes and so on. It's really hard to agree and coordinate these things, especially when you get people who rightfully tend to have strong opinions in sports.

    Everything I have read so far makes it sound like he only started playing other positions due to Lindor, not due to his own ability or struggles.

    The more I look at it, I LOVE this trade and I am not sure if the team is worse this year after the trade. My biggest concern with the team was the offense, notably Ortiz and whoever the third starting outfielder is. Plus whether Durbin is truly starter level. So now we get a guy in AAA that's a premium prospect that can play any of those positions if one of them struggles/gets injured. That is massive insurance. Sproat meanwhile just seems like Priester and we actually get to work with him in the offseason. Not worried about the starting pitching depth. My only concern would be a playoff rotation, but can deal with that when it arrives. Plus I think the bullpen is better than ever so wouldn't be asking a ton out of the starters.

    Jett can basically play anywhere in the infield and center so I imagine he starts in AAA and based on injuries/ineffectiveness he will be up.

    He was awful last year so you aren’t missing anything. Cardinals open up a position for development is the only real piece for them. The 11 mil over two years they save is a big whatever especially since their payroll is absolutely anemic compared to where it has been.

    Alcantara is out of options so they will have him as a outfielder and then would expect Ballesteros to be the regular DH so not sure they would bother signing anyone except maybe an old veteran bench bat.

    They most likely tucked the Bregman contract under the luxury tax with deferrals so I don’t see them doing anything more. Unless they want to get zesty with a trade ie trade Nico and slot Shaw at second.

    What are you looking at for that? That’s rather odd considering Brewers were ranked number one overall midseason and also given an A+ grade in September by BA. Edit: Ah I could see Miz graduating impacting the ranking enough

    There’s still Lockridge, Perkins, and even Bauers before you even get to a guy like Baddoo who is going to be in Nashville. But despite all that I still hope the Brewers are hunting for a legit corner outfield bat and roll with Chourio or Frelick in center as I think that’s the easiest path to improving the playoff lineup.
