Are you thinking the 90 days gets counted during the offseason? It doesn't. He has to be on the 26 man roster which means the Brewers would be playing a man down for 90 days in during the season. After that he could go to the 60 day IL yes.

No I will go back to the original point of saying carrying a guy on the 26 man roster who can't actually play is stupid.

No you are not understanding drafting a Rule 5 guy affects both the 26 man and 40 man flexibility. He has to be on the 26 man for 90 active days. And if you are on the 26 man roster, you have to be on the 40 man too.

But he does for the 90 days because he has to be on the active roster. You can't just stash guys on the IL from the Rule 5 draft.

That is significant amount? And could be a lot more with rising salary and or if he is a real star. Soto would lose 23 million on this year alone. Also not arguing whether or not Chourio should do it.

He would be making significantly less than he would in arbitration as well if he is any good.

The Franco and Tatis deals are way bigger than what Chourio is rumored to get so not worried about it, assuming it truly is around 8 years and 80-90 million that the Journal Sentinel is reporting it to be around.

I don't think the Brewers would have offered Urias the 5 mil plus arbitration he would have cost in the offseason.
