  1. For now unless we add a sure thing Black can likely start at 3rd now. Wilken is a year or two out for that shot. Black might have a long term future at a different position but can certainly cover 3rd for us better than any other option we have at the moment.
  2. Don't trade the farm for any one player, especially with 2 years of control or less. Small market teams need to be always looking to improve any way they can but also always to be looking to trade FOR farm.
  3. The whole off season hinges on two names. Burnes and Adames.
  4. The problem isn't with the owner. The problem is with MLB as a whole. Good ol Bud Selig sold the small market teams out to the power union and the big market owners, all for a chance to sit on their lap and collect millions for himself. The Angels make more money from TV contracts before selling 1 ticket or hot dog than the Brewers do from TV contracts, parking, concessions, ticket sales and anything else they can do. It is not a fair playing field. No owner is going to spend to create a loss, but when you have teams like the Yankees and Mets and Dodgers etc etc able to spend 2 times or more because of this disparity you have the mess we have today in MLB. The NFL has shown the right path with hard caps and parity being the rule of the land. Blame Bud Selig, not our owner. Thanks Bud!
  5. I'd love to see him back, some team will make it happen with a 2 or 3 year deal. The only way a team like the Brewers can do it is with a team favorable deal. It is possible.
  6. It is best for all if the Brewers can get a fair return now for Burnes, and Adames. If you can't then by all means start the season with them, but trade them now if the compensation is enough to warrant it.
  7. Horrible return for Burnes and the Twins will not be players for him.
  8. Agreed. My guess is Yelich told them to forget it about a move to 1st, otherwise it makes perfect sense if he could play there. We have the young guns to fill the outfield, I'd just DH Yelly and find a right handed power bat to come off the bench. Among a number of other moves they need to make for the now and future.......
  9. It would be a fallback move. If nothing else developed only and he could be had for a reasonable 1 year deal. I agree Wes Clarke will have to start the year at Triple A and go from there with a possible call up that could be permanent. He has to prove he's there first though. I hope for 1 FA vet to be added that would make a difference at the plate and maybe 1 FA starting pitcher. If not one or both, the Burnes and/or Adames trades would have to bring both help for the future and some help right now.
  10. My hopes since this trade does nothing (but free up lint dust from the Dodgers/Mets/Yankees type pocket money) for us this year is that it is a precursor to soon to be made positive moves that will help us this year AND down the road. I guess that would be to sign at least one substantial FA and a trade moving either Burnes or Adames. Or both.
  11. Stearns continues to make great trades, this time against us instead of for us. OK owner and front office, now sign a far better FA pitcher than Houser. For starts.
  12. Had Tommy John this last summer? We give up a MLB quality back of the rotation starter and Taylor? For a guy who likely will not help us this year? This shocked me when I read it. How likely are we to trade Burnes now?
  13. After losing Caratini I was concerned about a backup catcher. Worries alleviated. Quero needs to catch every day and I don't believe he will ever be a back plan for any length of time. When he is clearly ready the Brewers will have a prime trade piece, either he or Contreras will go for a windfall.
  14. Pass on all of them. Of the three, the last one is a scenario worth considering IF no better offers were made by other clubs but even then forget adding the CB pick and I'd want another younger but upper level prospect from them. Baltimore, Atlanta, Toronto, etc etc all make more sense than the Dodgers involving Burnes. If we can't get want we feel we should get for either Burnes or Adames let's start the season with them and keep talking to teams right up to the trade deadline if need be. No fire sale here.
  15. I like our young guns. We need to get treasure for Adames and Burnes rather than letting them walk for a comp pick. Whether it's now or later will depend on return...
  16. OK deal. Understandable and may indeed pay off to some extent. We've seen a number of small underwhelming moves so far and that was to be expected. We are nearing the time where we will make a few bigger moves. The fanbase awaits...
  17. There is no way I'd trade Gasser, a pitcher we can control long term who is about to make his starting debut soon. You're not going to replace him with anyone with similar cost/control/future. I wouldn't be interested in trading any pitcher who could help us this year and where we have control. If you want to trade a pitcher with value it's Burnes. Otherwise we are in NEED of pitching. Not interested in trading assets of control for short time fixes. At all. I'd really need a load return to trade any young guns. Equal or better prospect(s) with equal or better control.
  18. I don't like the Gorman trade, I don't like giving up Frelick. I like Marte, I really doubt they'd trade him to us. Weimer and another low level prospect for Marte and I'd feel better but it's not going to happen regardless. I think our best bet trade wise is out of the Division and involving Burnes and/or Adames. I like our young guns.
  19. Hopefully we can find a trade partner who is willing to offer just comp. Adames has ceiling left, and he's young enough to reach it. He has real value and we need to get something for him. If no offers work then start the year with him and go from there.
  20. Kind of a risky gambit. Knew he could be signed but risked taking him in Round 6 when some other team could have taken him earlier for the same money. It worked...
  21. I don't like the idea of trading young guns that are under long term control unless we return the same at different positions of need. I'm all for trading quality vets who we are about to lose, but only if we get fair return. That's what it comes down to. Trade Burnes and/or Adames if you get fair return, otherwise keep them. For now.
  22. Just re-read it. Very in-depth. Sounds like the team really winged it, they could have lost him to an earlier pick to another team for similar money. I'm surprised he didn't go earlier than he did.
  23. I'd like to ask him if the Brewers had talked extensively with him before the draft and did they know you would sign at a certain dollar amount?
  24. Like the moves. I think we will begin to see Milwaukee making such moves soon now. Hopefully along with bringing in at least 1 FA difference maker.
