  1. If a 5 run lead, worn out bullpen, pitch count of 83 and only 1 run allowed isn't a situation you will trust your starter with, what is? In terms of pitch count, this wound up being Suppan's second-shortest start of the year.
  2. I wouldn't be averse to trotting Linebrink out to close some games on the road, especially if CoCo is overworked.
  3. Hindsight is famously 20/20, but I was hoping that Yost would leave Linebrink out there a little longer. Coming into the game, he had thrown a total of 42 pitches since July 24. (By contrast, Turnbow had thrown 100; Cordero had thrown 121; and even Shouse had thrown 65.) Of course, doing that might have left Ned open to criticism for wasting Linebrink's innings in a game that (apparently) was comfortably in hand, and he's been pretty much a one-inning guy all year long. I guess the key was trying to sneak Wise out there to exorcise his demons, and then following him with Cordero for the third straight day. I also wasn't especially happy to see Suppan leave so early. I think you have to try to get into the seventh inning with him at least once in awhile.
  4. I like the idea of getting the drop on the Cubs today, for once. Make them think about keeping pace tonight....
  5. I guess I think that Billy probably needs the AB's.
  6. Was vacationing for a week, missed the whole migration. Just testing here.
  7. Alright, pink. Or fuchsia. Whatever. For the greater good.
  8. It just bothers me in a level beyond anything having to do with baseball that so many people don't like a hard working player like David Eckstein. With Eckstein, I don't think it's Eckstein himself that bugs people so much but rather the over-the-top media love-fest regarding his "hustle" and "heart" that we've been subjected to pretty much non-stop since the Angels won the WS in 2002.
  9. If only there were substances out there that could help Bob Costas became larger. Well, maybe one day . . .
  10. Did he mean that players were popping up to much while trying to swing for the fences? Weird. I think he might have meant this, but that's only my surmise.
  11. That was awesome, Danzig. (I mean, not for you -- sounds like it sucked for you. I meant as an illustration.)
  12. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, by way of Rev. Theodore Parker Wouldn't it be Parker, by way of MLK, since Parker had to have said it first?
  13. Are we going to see the full varsity lineup for awhile? Please?
  14. I was going to say -- if we can't get to Sarloos, we have serious problems. Go Tony!
  15. I shudder to think of a Braun-less club.
  16. I guess my point is that the Brewers' (more or less) optimal lineup would be: C. Estrada 1B. Fielder 2B. Weeks 3B. Braun SS. Hardy LF. Mench / or Jenkins CF. Hall RF. Hart Pitcher According to Baseball-Reference, Ned has used this iteration -- with Mench -- 5 times all season. (I think the Jenkins iteration must have been used less than 4 times.)
  17. This might have been posted in a separate Schilling thread, but here's our future HR king on Costas: "You mean that little midget man who absolutely knows jacks -- about baseball, who never played the game before?" Bonds said to a handful of reporters before Wednesday night's game. "You can tell Bob Costas what I called him."
  18. I understand that Prince can't play 162 games, but it just frustrates me that the team's best overall lineup doesn't seem to get run out there every day. (I know that Ned doesn't have any control over injuries and slumps, etc.)
  19. I think that this might have been suggested previously in this ever-lengthening thread, but you might take a took at the response on one of the Padres' fan sites: forum.signonsandiego.com/...ge=7&pp=15 There's a lot of garbage there, but generally their fans seem pretty stoked about getting Inman for Linebrink.
  20. Yeah, I was just looking at the article with the quotes from Hoffman, Peavy, and Wells. To me, that indicates a lot. If they really thought Linebrink was losing his stuff, I think the response would be something diplomatic, along the lines of, "Gosh, he's been a great teammate, but we're excited to get some prospects who can help us, eventually." But they're obviously angry, and being pretty open about it. Overall, that article makes me feel a lot better about the trade (although I am not totally reconciled with the idea of losing three prospects, and I still think that the team needed a bat more than another set-up guy).
  21. That's because Tina Fey is hilarious. I thought "30 Rock" would be stupid, but it's actually hilarious.
  22. I literally cried at Conan, I was laughing so hard. That was awesome.
  23. Yes, I've taken it under the old format, and the new. My advice would be: 1.) Really, really pay attention to the sample essay questions provided by ETS (on the Web and via the free CD). I really worked on those pretty hard, and when I went to take the actual test, one of the "sample" questions was on there. (So it turned out to be a freebie.) Even if you don't luck out that way, you'll be better prepared. 2.) Practice doing the test on a computer. It seems like a small thing, but it's actually kind of different than filling out circles on a Scan-tron page. Good luck! You'll probably do fine....
  24. I was looking at the Wade House Web site, and came across this. It looks kind of cool, and I'm interested in learning more about it. (It's too bad that Madison doesn't have a team, apparently.) www.wisconsinhistory.org/...base_ball/
