  1. Lee and DeRosa for Hardy and Parra? It would make sense, since it would give us the pitcher we need and an above average 2nd baseman. It gives them a pitcher for the future, and two years of an All Star level short stop.
  2. I am not so scare of A-Ram at this point, with his shoulder likely to continue to be a problem until he has surgery, it will likely sap a lot of his power. Derrick Lee is proving to be washed up offensively, he isn´t the player he used to be. I can´t stand Theriot, or his 5 HR. I don´t even know how he´s managed to put so many over the fence this year. If someone gave me an over under of 5 HR for the whole season I would have taken the under. Everything screams "fluke" when it comes to him. Thankfully he´s horrible defensively, so even with his moderate offensive skills, he´s not that great of a player. Soriano remains the most dangerous player on the Cubs. I´m glad that he likes hitting at lead off, it gives me joy when the majority of his HRs are solo shots. I think we´ll begin to see his decline in the next couple of years as well, which will be awesome. Soto would have been one of my "feared hitters" going into the year, but apparently he decided to use the offseason to deposit as many twinkies into his body as humanly possible, and he´s now nothing but a fat slob of a player. All in all, what everyone thought was going to be the juggernaut this year turned out to be nothing but a bunch of aging mediocre players.
  3. I think Rasmus is going to be the best out of that list of players (Gamel being a close second). Both are pretty solid players, but neither likely has superstar potential.
  4. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=An9TezD3I6koDa2NksZes2mFCLcF?slug=ap-baseballtoday&prov=ap&type=lgns A very classy lawsuit by Mr. LaRussa. (linkified by hawing)
  5. I think it could be added that the Hispanic culture is very family oriented. Family comes before work. Not saying that explains everything behind his comments, but I could see growing up with that type of perspective having an impact in a person´s decision of whether he ought to continue to earn his millions or spend time with his family.
  6. Endaround, when you make comments like that could you please provide the statistics backing up your opinion. To make just the simple one line posts (I´ve seen a couple of them this morning) seems really snarky ("it´s true because I say so") when you provide nothing to back that opinion up. Thanks Ennder for the stats, hopefully McClung is able to keep up the "luck" that he has had so far for the rest of the season. I think he is capable of putting up better secondary numbers.
  7. Agreed. The most valuable reliever is most likely not the closer, but the second best reliever who comes in during the most difficult and high leverage situations.
  8. Salome isn´t hitting as well as he did in the past because of his back problems. And those who say Lucroy is going to pass up Salome, haven´t been paying attention to Lucroy´s stats at AA.
  9. I would take Morneau in a heartbeat over Fielder. For a Braun/Mauer trade I´d have to think about it. Although I´d probably go with Braun. If I was offered the trade straight up (and it wasn´t dependent on contract lengths etc.), I think it would probably be a pretty even trade.
  10. Hmm, I got a strike a few years back for calling someone a jerk...I wonder if Brewerfan favorite FTJ will get one as well. I won´t hold my breath. And please get off the pedestal, is it not in the least bit ridiculous that you of all people are complaining about a post that uses heavy sarcasm? I agree with whoever added the fact about Petco. He put up his solid numbers despite playing half of his games in Petco which is known to hurt players offensive numbers. This has shown up in his home/away splits. He IS a clear upgrade defensively and offensively and fits the role of a lead off hitter (OBP) much better than Hart. And with all of this talk about Hart´s trade value (I don´t see a trade in his near future anyway), but having his numbers suffer by facing every right handed pitcher is not exactly going to enhance his trade value either.
  11. And a .340 OBP is not all that bad. Especially if he´s hitting in a place in the order where his job is to get on base, and not drive in runs.
  12. Yeah I would hate having a guy who hits .284 .344 .472 .816 (Gerut vs. RH) over a player who has hit .264 .307 .466 .773 (Hart vs. RH) too! Why would anyone even consider this? I hate giving our team the best chance to win!
  13. Gallardo could legitimately have a BABIP below .300. Many of the ML´s better pitchers have done so in their primes. Look at Maddox, Glavine, Martinez etc. All of them more often than not had BABIP below .300 during their prime years. So it can be done, especially if the pitcher has the ability to control his stuff. Bush may be one of these guys as well, as he seems to be on the low side of .300 quite a bit. Looking at FIP for Suppan is probably not wise due to the small sample. When you look at his first two starts, that clearly skewed his FIP by quite a bit. He is clearly better than what he showed in those two starts. That said, he´s clearly not as good as he´s been since. But, yes, I think we can expect Suppan to start throwing like a guy who has an ERA in the high 4s or low 5s, and not a guy who has an ERA in the mid 2s (like it´s been since his third start). Looper has been somewhat lucky to this point, but I expect that his secondary numbers will actually improve (such as his FIP). I think his true talent lies around an ERA of 4.75 or so. Parra I think we can expect some improvement from as the year goes on. I´m thinking an ERA in the low 4s or even high 3s going forward.
  14. Could part of Braun´s range factor numbers be impacted by having Cameron in CF? Or would that not effect those numbers? I´m curious if having a ++ range CF could have an effect on the range numbers of his fellow OF (perhaps part of the reason why Hart´s range numbers looked better in CF than they do in RF).
  15. I have seen a lot of discussion over at NSBB about how Braun is a poor fielder in left and that Soriano is better. The eye test would make it seem that Soriano is the worse OF (aside from his OF assists) as he takes absolutely horrible routes on the ball on a nearly daily basis. However, the advanced defense numbers show Soriano as a better OF. However, this makes me think. Can having a CF with a ton of range in Cameron actually be hurting Braun´s defensive range factors? Think about it this way, if Cameron is catching balls that normally that Braun would be catching if there was a worse CF. Could that be an explanation of why despite Braun´s worse advanced defensive numbers, that those numbers don´t tell the whole story? Or is Soriano actually the better OF? Could that be a flaw in looking soley at range factors when looking at outfielders, that it doesn´t take into account other plus defenders that could be taking away chances? Lay your thoughts on me.
  16. Still not sure how the "glove trick" isn´t stealing. If the ball goes into the stands that´s one thing. Taking balls out of the bullpen seems to be quite another, and the fact that you admit to try to doing it while the usher isn´t looking is admitting that you knew you were doing something you shouldn´t have been doing. It may be no different than a net or a can, but then again, those would fall into the stealing category as well. I imagine if you´d ask the Brewers management whether you could use contraptions to take balls out of the bullpen, they would not agree with your view of it "not being stealing". Second, the picture of you yelling at the Marlin´s employee doesn´t make it look like you accepted the tickets "without a fuss", nor did your own explanation on your blog make it appear to be something you conceded "without a fuss". The fact that the team sent out their psychologist, and how you described your interaction with him would suggest that you may have put up at least a bit of a "fuss". All that said, I can say that I am glad that you have come around to seeing that asking for a person´s property who isn´t involved in the situation is not a good idea. Also, thank you for apologizing for making us Brewer fans look bad. That was very much appreciated. Hopefully this is the last time such an apology is needed.
  17. Agreed, his FIP means absolutely nothing due to the small sample and his two horrible games.
  18. Very unfortunate. I hope the Brewers move Hall/Counsell over to 2b and have Gamel start at 3b. While Weeks brought a number of things to our team (especially OBP), if Hall continues to play as well as he has, and Gamel comes in and hits well our offense will probably still be in pretty decent shape. The biggest problem with this is it probably means we have Hart as our leadoff hitter. Not a huge fan of that, but we don´t exactly have a whole lot of better options currently (although Counsell does a pretty good job of getting on base). Here´s hoping that Weeks has a speedy recovery and is ready to produce like he can by next season.
  19. The Brewers used to let people in for free after the 7th inning, I believe (and they let those people sit wherever they wanted). That is a decision by management, therefore it´s ok. If they don´t do that anymore, than people probably should not be moving seats. If they still do that, at that point, where they are letting anyone sit wherever they want for free, than it´s probably ok to sit where you want. I think you should still ask an usher though. Perhaps they don´t do that anymore.
  20. I think Invader hit it on the head with his movie theater comment. If you sneak into a second movie, the movie theater may not technically be losing money. But that doesn´t change the fact that you are getting something that you didn´t pay for (aka stealing and completely unjustifiable and unethical). I also agree with Invader when it comes to the ushers. If they tell you to move up, then go ahead. But there is a big difference between the word coming down from on high (likely from management) to move people up, and moving into a section on your own and getting away with it because they don´t check your ticket.
  21. I personally think that people should only sit in the seats that they pay for or one that is equal or lesser in value. If you want to sit in the expensive seats, pay for them. Otherwise I see it as essentially stealing (since you aren´t paying for the quality of seat that you are sitting in by moving up). However, I will add an amendment to that, saying that in the last couple of innings (when the park is open to anyone to enter for free (assuming they are still allowing this) - which I believe is after the 7th inning, than you are more than welcome to tactfully move up). Since this spawned off of the Happy thread, I had a big problem with his sneaking into seats directly behind the visitor´s dugout and staying there the whole game despite paying for far less expensive seats (as he so happily points out in his blog). That I believe is stealing and unethical.
  22. It´s what I was saying all along in this thread. He´s going to have his ups and his downs over the course of the year, but he´s likely to have an ERA that falls somewhere between 4.75 and 5.25. It´s really nice to see this thread brought up again to show just how much of an overreaction it was (as were many of the other early season threads).
  23. Agreed. And I never even thought about how his glove trick would actually be theft. What a shameful thing for a police officer to do. If the ball goes into the stands or gets tossed to you, that´s one thing. But to take a ball out of the bullpen or off the field, that is stealing. It´s true that we don´t know everything about the guy, and he may be friendly in person. But knowing what we know: 1) He acted greedy in the situation with both the Marlins´player and with Jenkins 2) He steals baseballs that are not legitimately his to take using rope and his glove (and trying to do so while making sure that security doesn´t see him - meaning he knows it´s wrong but does it anyway.) 3) He has pushed kids in the past to get baseballs (as witnessed by a few people on this board) 4) He moves around the ballpark, sitting in very expensive seats (often for the whole game) while paying for the cheap seats (as evidenced by his blog) 5) He lies and attempts to deceive players from other teams by wearing their apparel. 6) He sees his profession as meriting some sort of entitlement 7) His hogging of balls that could go to other fans who don´t get the chance to catch a ball Knowing all of those things, I think it´s fair to call a spade a spade. You might not agree with all of the list, but you can´t tell me that at least a few of these things make him look pretty bad.
