  2. [ Leigh Stephens. ] CORRECT. Leigh Stephens was the original guitarist for Blue Cheer, a San Francisco psychedelic rock band. They were considered a little "darker" than your normal hippie rock band. Their only hit was a cover of "Summertime Blues", although they still tour to this day. Glenn Danzig, formerly of The Misfits, cited Blue Cheer as his original inspiration.
  3. [ You wanna know how obscure Brian Mallette is? ] He's not obscure to me, as I think he was the pitcher that took the mound drunk in our glorious 2002 campaign.
  4. [ I was thinking somebody from Blue Cheer but that doesn't jibe with any pictures I've seen either. ] Look again.
  5. [ I was thinking somebody from Blue Cheer but that doesn't jibe with any pictures I've seen either. ] You're burning up!
  6. [ Just for reference, and I'm not trying to start anything else, but what kind of comments did Melvin make around the Sexson and Overbay trades? Were there any raging internet rumors during the Overbay process that Melvin downplayed? I know he remained relatively low-key during the Carlos Lee thing, but I wasn't around the internet stuff yet during the other two biggies. ] The key "kiss of death" phrase is "I'm not motivated to move...".
  7. [ David Yow was about the best I could come up with but it's not him. ] Well, you've got the right drug.
  8. On the plus side, Mike Wickett (of WSSP) this morning threw Cliff Saunders (of WSSP, who parlayed the rumor into fact) in the "Friday Fryer" this morning. So at least there was some acknowledgment of error this monring.
  9. [ You cant trade players on the DL, he will be out past the trade deadline. ] Technically, you could trade for him as a PTBNL.
  10. link No deal: Journalistic accountability took a hit Thursday after a Cincinnati radio personality posted an entry on his blog that said the following: "From the MLB rumor mill ... Dunn to Brewers for Matt Wise, Tony Gwynn Jr. and an infield prospect." "It was news to me," Dunn said. "Where does that stuff come from?" A Milwaukee station saw the post and reported it as fact. Both teams' general managers, Wayne Krivsky from the Reds and Doug Melvin from the Brewers, spent parts of their days dismissing the report as baseless. "I'm taking more calls deflecting these kinds of rumors than I've had talking to GMs," said Melvin, whose club is already flush with left-handed-hitting outfielders. "There are freaking geeks who get ... off on this kind of stuff." The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31 and many rumors will circulate for the next couple of weeks. Dunn's name has frequently come up this summer as someone who could be moved to a contender by Cincinnati. Right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. caught wind of the erroneous report. "I knew Dan O'Brien couldn't get enough of you," Griffey joked to Dunn. O'Brien, the former Reds' GM, now works as a Brewers' assistant GM. That really sucks.
  11. My best friends sister's boyfriends friends with the girl who's dating ferris and said he passed out at 31 flavors last night... i dunno, it could be serious.
  12. [ Brian, I heard brewerfan.net named during the poat game show, but I don't believe it was in that exact context. I think Tim Allen said the Cincy host started it and the rumor was on brewerfan.net. I don't think he said that brewerfan.net "ran with it" ] Well, that's not a big deal... But I'd rather it be clear that it was on our message boards as simply linking to the Cincy host and not us reporting that it was close to happening. It's semantics, but we go through pretty great efforts (I sure as hell did today) to make sure that any reports that the staff runs with are confirmed by reliable sources. Did anyone hear it in a different context?
  13. [ Some guy called in and asked "Can you guys tell me anything about this Adam Dunn rumor I'm hearing", and the host (don't know his name) said, "Some radio host in Cinny said something that the guys on Brewerfan.net ran with. There's nothing to it." ] Wow. Are you kidding me? Was the during the post-game show or a different show? What time was it?
  14. For the record, did anyone hear if WSSP said that we "reported" the deal was going down? I read somewhere that we were "blamed" for the false report.... That would be discouraging, to say the least.
  15. [ And if he is, perhaps he is being showcased as a long relief guy? ] I don't know... if I'm a "seller", the last thing I'm "buying" is a long reliever.

  17. They're stretching him out to put him into the rotation
  18. [ now what makes this even more confusing is that with Melvin coming out and flat out dening or ripping on internet rumors makes it seems like there is something there if i am reading my Melvin quote to Truth chart. ] Melvin's flat-out denials = nothing's happening. Melvin's quasi denials = something' happening. I really don't think there's a deal for Dunn going down. It wouldn't make any sense with another LH'ed expensive LFer on the team.
  19. From the guy's blog: [ Pleaser leave Rob Butcher alone For listeners calling Reds media relations director Rob Butcher about a possible Dunn to the Brewers trade...please stop..........this is in the MLB rumor mill.......nobody says it has happened or will happen. Rumors of trades fly as the deadline nears. Don't call the Reds asking if it has happened. Thanks. ]
  20. [ We just got burned my Doug Freking Melvin. ] I think he was referring to the blogger who started this whole fiasco. But yes, we are freaking geeks.
  21. Wise is out in the pen. I don't think this deal is on.
  22. [ Does anyone know, if Gwynn played for the Brewers today, and was traded after the game, if he somehow could make it to Florida for the Cincy game, could he play for them tonight? Can you play for two different teams on the same day? ] Yes, Joel Youngblood did it for the Mets & Expos in 1982.
