  1. [ Question #1: Who is sold that Carlos will be a solid starter?Teams will see more of him and batters will get a better read on him as he goes through a lineup more than once. He is no more sure thing than what we already have.qt ] He's had good numbers as a starter for his first 8 starts. It's never a guarantee, but it's a good sign. [ Question #2: I think this is more important who is going to vill Carlos's role in the pen? The starter he replaces? This is not that easy as going to the pen is a different mind set and person has to be quicker to be ready to enter the game. ] Personally, I think that either Vargas or Bush will be dealt and either a bullpen arm will be acquired, or the team will give Parra or Balfour their shot.
  2. Someone at work just brought up the idea that perhaps they've been playing good teams on weekend series and bad teams during the week.
  3. Like 67% of women, she's clearly insane.
  4. If there's problems fielding a full 10, I can pitch in.
  5. Stonebridge - Close To Heaven
  6. [ I second the Balfour nomination. He appears to be all the way back from injury and then some. He's certainly earned a shot at it anyway. ] I would have a problem going blindly with a player as our closer solution just based off minor league stats. If I were Doug, I would need to trot him out against several teams in the league to see how he handles.
  7. [ Crawford by a nose. ] There are other stats that you're omitting...
  8. I agree with Jim... If we can't do it well, then I don't want to do it. With that said, I think it would be a great experience for everyone.
  9. [ I'd give Tampa Weeks, Vargas and Inman for him right now. ] I wouldn't go that far, but Crawford is a player still on the rise, regarding age. His 82% SB rate also gives him extra value. I don't see any way that Jenks is a better all-around ballplayer than Crawford. Platooning is nice, but Ned hasn't shown that he'll PH for Jenks with Mench (or vice versa) very often when the opposing manager switches arms.
  10. [ Pretty sure you only have to wait something like 6 months to trade a pick. ] You technically have to wait a year after the player signs his pro contract, but you can get around it by 6 months by naming the player as a PTBNL, which has a 6-month shelf life (6+6=12).
  11. The article's rather ridiculous. There's so much anti-SABR propaganda out there because people don't realize that sabermetrics are meant to _supplement_ traditional scouting, not eliminate it. It's like saying you need to have either mustard or ketchup on your burger, but never both.
  12. [ I can't imagine it being that many. How many of them hold season tickets? ] EDR, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a sizable population of Japanese origin that reside in Seattle, right?

  15. Away from Coors Field, he's hitting .280/.321/.400. I don't see him as an upgrade...
  16. If the fire that's dormant in his soul has been aroused, that's worth 4-5M per year alone right there.
  17. Dusty Baker, Joe Morgan, and Chris Berman. It's like a perfect storm of people I can't stand.
  18. [ Huh? You mean people still read the content here after they're banned? So this ISN'T the worst place since WWII Germany, as some people would have you believe? ] Some day, I should publish my "best of" hate mail.
  19. Considering Vargas would quite possibly be non-tendered after the season, I think it's likely we'll see a Vargas-for-reliever or Vargas-for-RH-OFer before the deadline. Anything more than that would compromise the depth that's been built up, in my opinion.
  20. [ I wonder how all the Yost bashers are gonna react to this? ] http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1048921/2/istockphoto_1048921_young_hands_baiting_a_fishing_hook.jpg
  21. He had a .902 OPS in 2005... So, the question is, who's the real Brian Roberts?... Is his speed getting him in on some of that BABIP action on infield singles?

  23. Oh yeah, and I'm a big Veronica Mars fan.
  24. I've swung around now to the point where I don't think Weeks is helping this club. Optioning him if a clear upgrade rental was available doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me. Most people seem to be saying now that Weeks's injury isn't going to be at 100% at any point this season. Assuming the asking price isn't too high, what's the worst case scenario? Weeks goes down and mashes, and the team has to DFA Graffanino at some point? It's win-win to me. I'm a huge Weeks fan, but this team needs a bigger shot in the arm than his OBP and lack of SLG is providing right now.
