  1. What happened with Rivera? Someone stopped by my desk.
  2. [ I'm at work so I cant see @#%$, but I thank you guys for providing these PBP's on the web. ] Please re-read the FAQ in the issues forum regarding language.
  3. JJ with the 2 run blast!... He's going to be a good one this year.
  4. [ That's kind of what I was saying when I said maybe he can't adjust to getting pitched around. Maybe he'll just flail at everything like he has in the past, but maybe when that pitcher makes a mistake, it will get crushed by Rivera - if he hits .210 and has a SLG of .425 or so, then he's still a decent improvement over Moeller, and at least he'd have to be someone to worry about a little bit. ] I agree, he could go either way. And I also agree that it's probably time to see an alternative, whether it be Mark Johnson or Mike Rivera.
  5. [ I think it's similar to where Branyan kind of helped out - he got walked a ton and helped cycle through the order. I don't know that Rivera will get that much respect, though, at least not right away. He'd probably start off hot and hit a couple bombs in April, then get figured out. It'd be a matter of him adjusting, which maybe he can't, to being pitched around. Mark Johnson might be overly patient, but I wouldn't mind him getting a shot at the backup spot, either. ] The difference between Rivera and Branyan is that Branyan has a history of a high OBP and Rivera doesn't.
  6. If someone could track the top of the 2nd for me, that'd be great. i've got a phone call to attend to
  7. If Rivera made the roster, Ned would need to put him 7th. If he's hitting 8th, the power does him no good at all when he's getting pitched around.

  17. Do you have some kind of image blocking functionality in your browser?
  18. Here's the deal: 1) New members should not be "shamed" away. If they're rough around the edges, give them a hand instead of flaming them. 2) We're getting a lot of "internet tough guys" around here, recently. Condescendence is one of my biggest pet peeves. Talk to people like you'd actually talk to them face-to-face. 3) I picked my moderators for justifiable reasons. They have full authority. If I have a problem with what one of them does, I confront them. Until then, do what they say. If one of them comes down on you, you were probably being stupid, distracting, or a jerk. 4) We're going to start deleting one-liners and posts with excessive annoying emoticons. Don, you're one of the primary culprits. Off-topic posts and IGT's are exceptions to the rule (for the most part). Let's have some pride in posting. 5) Stop with the finger pointing. I hear a lot of "well, this guy does this, and I get yelled at for it". No one draws the 'evil eye' of the moderators unless they're consistently being foolish. We're pretty tolerant people. To sum up: Treat people with respect, and treat threads with respect. We were all newbies once too. Just because some of you had to learn through the school of hard knocks doesn't give you the right to blatantly flame a newbie. Also, none of us get paid for this babysitting. Understand that before you raise holy hell. We do the best we can.
  19. What chance does Abernathy have of making the roster, when he really can only play 2B and LF? I know he's raking right now, but Sorensen still has the better shot, as he has more versatility. Sorensen has better speed too, which is an asset for a reserve player.
  20. Generally speaking, it takes a long time for a 4th outfielder to "flop"... or 5th outfielder, if you factor in Corey Hart. Cruz won't come up until he's accomplished what he needs to in AAA (hurt AAA pitching & play a decent CF) or a need arises for a starting outfielder, I would imagine.
  21. [ Sometimes, however, some cocky newbie will let us know that "it's a fact that Bill Hall is a better SS than JJ Hardy and K's are WAY worse than all other outs". That is when opinions become troublesome here. ] Are you being sarcastic? I don't agree that Hall's a better SS than Hardy and that K's are WAY worse than other outs, but I can certainly see how people would hold that opinion.
  22. [ has Cruz done enough to beat out Gross? ] Yes, but it doesn't matter, as I think it's 95% likely that Cruz is headed to AAA. Melvin has said this previously, and i don't necessarily disagree. I've mentioned this in other threads, but starting every day in CF will do wonders for Cruz's value.
