  1. To the contrary, it seems like many managers "break in" their young talented players against pitchers that they have an easier time handling to: a) keep them productive b) grow their confidence I agree about the defense, though.
  2. I feel that our moderation is what sets us apart from other brewers message boards. I know we're not going to please everyone with how we run things, but that's something that I fundamentally feel that we should not change.
  3. Weaver. If he doesn't make the MLB roster by a certain date, he's a FA. Hammond doesn't strike me as a guy that could make the jump from AA to MLB effectively. No reason to rush him.
  4. That would be okay to me as well. Would there be a fear that he would bail again? 1. Davey Johnson 2. Frank Kremblas 3. Ted Simmons
  5. Can I ask what your resistance is to going to see a doc? It might be just exhaustion, but if there's something that can be addressed medically, why not get it taken care of?
  6. Agreed ... Potowatomi's got enough money where this will be well worth the effort, I'm sure.
  7. Locking this thread for reasons that should be obvious.
  8. 1 more vote for "go to see the doctor". If nothing else, he can at least get you pain meds while you heal. But honestly, I'd go get an X-Ray to make sure that nothing needs to be immobilized.
  9. venting thread....
  10. That would probably be doable ...
  11. The Manatees are playing home games during that stretch. Melbourne isn't terribly far from Orlando.
  12. If you use OpenOffice, you can read-write MS Office files (or you can use Google Docs as well online), but I'm assuming you could run those under Wine. As far as Finale, here's a link to instructions. If I didn't have to do so much .NET programming, I'd run Linux just so I could use That's some sweet, sweet eye candy.
  13. Now that they took Clippy out of MS-Office, I can't think of a single one.
  14. Are you implying that Theriot will keep this up over the course of the year? Seems like you might want to hold off on the "I told you so's" until the rest of the data is in.
  15. Games, mostly... but I know a fair amount of people play World of Warcraft using WINE on Linux, and don't have problems.
  16. Locking this, as at this point the only discussion seems to be people piling on.
  17. Ubuntu is probably the most user friendly distro of Linux to use. I've used it before, and it's great. I wouldn't use it if: - You NEED any windows-specific programs - You have screwy hardware which only windows drivers exist for Other than that, you can do pretty much anything you can do in Windows (Word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet) on Linux. You can also use Wine to run windows programs, but of course, there may be some performance loss or incompatibility issues. Try running Ubuntu off a flash drive or a CDRom first to see if you like it. You don't have to completely kill Windows to take it for a test drive. (Google for instructions on how to do that, it should be pretty painless)
  18. I know this opinion has been stated, but I think what it boils down to is that if the group of people the team is named after doesn't feel offended, then the name should stand. If it does feel offended, then pick a new name. Seems pretty obvious to me, I guess.
  19. Sort of off-topic, but does anyone else loathe the Povlocki Paving sign and it's horrible corny paving catch phrases?
  20. I really, really hate to do this at pretty much the last minute, but I need to "retire" from BFnet softball. Between work demands and Nicole's unpredictably spotty health, there's no way I can commit to the team this year without stressing myself out more than I am already. This is something that's been weighing on me pretty heavily over the past week or so, but this is the decision I need to make. If someone would like to take my spot and the signup fee is a concern, I'd be certainly willing to pay for that person's spot. If there's anything else I could do to facilitate this, please let me know.... Again, I apologize.. -Brian
  21. I really enjoyed conan's review of it.
  22. Yeah, so here's the weird thing. My wife tore her ACL a few months ago. Took her to the ER, and they did some motion tests on it. ER doctor didn't seem to think it was an ACL tear, but maybe a sprain instead or a cartilage tear. Now, an argument could be made that the ER doctor was a moron, but sure enough, the MRI revealed that the ACL was totally torn. Dunno, I'd like to give Caplinger the benefit of a doubt given our experience... but then again, I'm not a doctor. Regardless, my feeling on the matter is that BFnetters (and most human beings) are often looking for someone to _blame_ when something goes wrong, as it that somehow makes us feel better inside. Other than Yo avoiding Reed Johnson, this is one of those things that "just happens".
  23. It's not "offensive to many", it's racist, unless you're a complete bigot.
  24. I think it would be safe to assume it will be. General ACL rehab is usually like 6 months for a healthy person ... Given that he wouldn't be able to throw until after his leg was up to it, that pretty much seals the deal.
