  1. Looking at the standings, and seeing that the Tampa Bay Rays haven't fallen apart just pisses me off. What did they have that we don't have? Their fanbase isn't nearly as supportive as Milwaukee. They didn't trade for a pitcher who was unhittable for an entire half-season. And they have to compete with the best division in baseball. While they're hanging in there like heavyweights with the Bo Sox, the Brewers are getting trashed by teams like the Reds and Padres. It makes me sick. Every stinking year, there's always teams like this. The Diamondbacks. The Rockies. Now the Rays? The Rays??? Young, surprise teams that MAKE it happen. Why can't it ever be the Brewers' time? I'm just so disappointed that I can't even describe it anymore. I've been trying to tell myself that I saw it coming, and that it shouldn't bother me this much. But it does. I really don't think I have it in me to go through this again after this year. Some teams just don't have fate on their side, and never will it seems...
  2. Every game the Brewers get trashed from here on forward means: 1. Less likelihood of Dale Sveum being named the permanent manager 2. The organization realizing that this team has major issues that aren't going to just go away by letting "the kids" age another year. Hopefully, some major roster (and GM?) shakeups are on the horizon.
  3. I don't think I'm the only one who is negative about this team right now, but I appreciate your concern. I mean, come on, they're 4-14 in September. To each their own though. I choose to feel extremely disappointed that this is happening, while you choose to insist that they're going to run the table and make the playoffs. Maybe you'll end up being right, but I don't see the point in trying to convince myself into believing something unlikely is sure to happen. "Forcing" myself to think positive doesn't do much for me. I'd feel like I was just in denial and hiding from reality. I enjoy viewing the circumstances for what they really are, good or bad. That's just me though. If what you're doing works for you, that's great.
  4. "Step right up!" http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/1073/circuszp6.jpg
  5. It just gets worse. Giving up 7 homeruns in one game has to be close to a record.
  6. So...what's your new handle gonna be?
  7. .333 / .391 / .619 / 1.010 That is Durham's line from the first 5 games. He's 1-for-2 today. Not sure what you're talking about. I'm sure Rickie would have done much better.
  8. It's one thing to blow a save. What the Brewers do is beyond that. Two of the instances on that list were totally gut-wrenching defeats that should have been sure wins. The loss at Arizona and today's loss each carried approximately 99% chance of victory. They've now blown games like that twice this season. Twice! That's just crazy. They had one last year too, against Texas. Only the Brewers...
  9. And you will tar and feather yourself at Miller Park, and record it and put it on YouTube for everyone to watch?
  10. How exactly are you putting your "reputation" on the line? Are you going to stop posting here if your deluded fantasy doesn't come true? Maybe you should put something tangible on the line if you are so confident. I'll bet you $100 that they finish worse than 8-1.
  11. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y55/silverbeam/CSM%20Blog/LucyFootball.jpg I always used to laugh at Charlie Brown and wonder who would be stupid enough to fall for the same thing over and over, constantly exposing themselves to agony and humiliation. Turns out, I am Charlie Brown.
  12. This makes 2 pennant races in a row where Sheets has sat out due to some kind of "strain" or "tightness." He's a real wiener.
  13. I agree with this idea, but not the the way Sveum did it. Just moving a low-OBP, high strikeout guy to the leadoff spot, while continuing to play Counsell and Kendall doesn't do much for me. Rivera needs to get some starts. And starting Gamel a few times might be an ideal way to inject some life and energy into the stagnant offense.
  14. I've never thought very highly of Dale Sveum, and I didn't care for the lineup he put together last night. Honestly, I just didn't mention it because I didn't want to provide ammunition for someone to say, "See! You people are never satisfied, no matter who the manager is!" Just because I don't like either of these guys doesn't mean I wouldn't like somebody else though. I refuse to believe there aren't some candidates out there who have more to offer than a couple of retread Brewers from the 80's.
  15. I've been strongly considering doing something like this. I want to de-emphasize the amount of time and emotion I dedicate toward sports. This is particularly true with baseball, because it's EVERY SINGLE DAY. Even with the best teams, you're looking at 60 days a year where you're going to be disappointed -- and then the stress of the playoff race on top of it. With football, at least only one day a week is affected. It's tough though. Obviously, this is a big time for Brewer baseball, so I can't just ignore it. Starting next season, I'm really going to have to find a way to force myself to become more of a casual fan. Maybe attend a few games during the season, watch only a handful of games a month, and just kind of keep and eye on the box scores and standings. The ups-and-downs of intently following the Brewers this year have just been too much.
  16. This continues to baffle me to no end and i can't come up with any even somewhat logical reasoning? I think they want somebody who can get on base to start the inning there. Problem is, Kendall doesn't really even do that well anymore. His OBP this year is an underwhelming .330 (and .316 since the All-Star break). He's washed up, and has been run completely into the ground -- but nobody on the coaching staff seem to realize it.
  17. This team is finished, in all likelihood. 9 K's in less than 5 innings? Brutal. Firing Yost was a good place to start, but there is definitely still a lot of things that need to change. I hope the roster gets a severe shakeup during the off-season.
  18. Listening to it now. Ned seems like a very good man. I do believe that he wanted nothing more than for the Brewers to succeed. Believe it or not, I have a lot of respect for Ned Yost as a person. I just don't think he had the necessary skills to be a good, or even adequate, Major League baseball manager.
  19. The more I think about it, the more I like firing Yost now for one simple reason: It removes any chance of him saving his job for 2009 and beyond. Think about it. If the Brewers get hot, or play .500 ball the rest of the year while the Mets completely tank (or any other scenario that could happen with or without Ned, where the Brewers could have gotten into the playoffs), Ned's job would have surely been saved. His firing has been assured, and as an added bonus, there is a chance that this bold move could spark something.
  20. Can I still rag on him for pathetic defense, and his propensity to do stupid things on the basepaths?
  21. I don't have any specific guys in mind. I know I don't want Sveum. My biggest thing is that I really hope they target a more cerebral guy with an open mind -- not some former player with archaic philosophies.
  22. Helps convince the owner to fire the incompetent manager.
  23. Well, here it is. The dismissal of Ned Yost is something I've wanted to happen for a very long time now. Some thoughts: - This move is far too late. I wished it would have happened after 2006. It should have happened after 2007, and at the very latest should have happened after the Boston series this season. - Even though the timing seems crazy, nothing bad can come from it during the remainder of this season. It seems like the only possible outcomes are positive or neutral. I don't see anyway that this can cost the team anything. The organization (still tied for the wildcard) needed to try anything that could possibly spark this team for the remaining 12 games. - I don't like Dale Sveum. He doesn't seem much different, or much brighter, than Ned. If any bad can come from this in the longterm, it is that now Sveum may have the opportunity to get the managerial job permanently. I would be very disappointed if this happened. I want the Brewers to find a more cerebral manager, with no ties to the organization. - Ned Yost is no longer the Brewers manager. No matter how you slice it, that is a very good thing for the organization.
