  1. I have a digital camera that I will bring to some games if that's the case, i'm pretty sure that we have no choice but to try and create action-pose softball cards of each player, and then sell them with a piece of bazooka gum.
  2. i think it's great. i can already tell that 3TO stat column is going to be trouble...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. i certainly don't think our fielding should be held up to major league standards or anything. jimbo's descriptions so far of what should constitute errors seem reasonable. also, i can't make the practice or chat this sunday due to work. i will be able to make our first game.
  4. i believe it is saturday @ 1pm, at Hales Corners Softball Diamond once again.
  5. that tidbit of info makes me really think that we should play L-LC-RC-R, rather than use a rover. if we leave the gaps open, any ball hit there that would normally be a double, will problably be an inside-the-park homerun since there is no fence to stop it. i'd personally prefer to take our chances with allowing some bloop singles. thanks for scoping the place out, nicole.
  6. nicole, do you happen to remember whether or not our field had an outfield fence?
  7. i would enjoy some food as well (after the game of course, so jamie doesn't call us worthless maggots again and make us run more wind sprints). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif it will be just me there, and the offer is much appreciated.
  8. here you go www.cafepress.com/bfdotnet/584161
  9. it'll be at the diamond we talked about hales corners? the same diamond as last weekend's practice, correct? i'm not working this saturday, so i'll be there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif edit: also, did anybody drive there from the east side? just wondering to see if i could get an estimate on driving time so i know when i should leave. thanks.
  10. on the FSN telecast, daron and bill were just telling a strory about drew olson, but i only caught the very end of it. could somebody who's watching quickly give a recap of what they were talking about?
  11. Jesus man, can't you be happy about ANYTHING? Good lord! i can't possibly imagine why it should matter to you what makes him happy and what makes him sad. tonight's game was difficult. we scored 12 runs and lost. that hurts. people should be able to be critical of something like this in the IGT without being told they should be happy we made it close.
  12. what if there were two threads dedicated to each game? one could be an "in-game thread", with all of the discussion, play-by-play, and comments done in real-time regarding the game itself. the other could act as a "post-game thread", which could include questioning of certain managerial decisions, re-examining certain plays and their ultimate impact on the outcome of the game, venting, etc. it seems like the #1 complaint is that people don't want to have to sift through the IGT chit-chat and excitement in order to find actual discussion about game strategy and the like. maybe breaking it into two separate threads would help clear this up? i don't know much about moderating or site costs, so maybe this isn't a workable idea. just thought i'd throw it out there. either way, i think the site is still top notch and the mods do a commendable job.
  13. unfortunately, i will not be able to attend our first practice due to work. if practices continue to be held on saturday afternoons, i should be able to make it to the remainder of them after the first.
  14. thursday, april 13th works better for me than saturday, april 15th. after that, saturday afternoons are fine for me.
  15. a little off-topic here, but how does matt wise's fastball compare to trevor hoffman? i know they both have great change-ups, but if hoffman is like wise in the sense that he doesn't have a great fastball, then i really don't see any reason why they couldn't put up similar era/whip numbers.
  16. due to the amount of RBI opportunities for the #5 hitter, and subsequent relatively low amount of runs driven in after (due to the lower order hitters not being as productive), wouldn't it make much more sense to bat a low OBP guy like carlos lee #5 rather than #4? it seems like his low OBP would hurt the possible creation of runs more at #4 than at #5. right now, it hurts the team that he doesn't get on base very much because it leaves jenkins with less runners to drive in. i know in 2005 season we had to split up the lefties, but next year wouldn't this top 5 in the lineup make sense? 1. clark 2. hardy 3. weeks 4. jenkins 5. lee wouldn't lee's low OBP be less harmful in the #5 spot, where he can still drive in runners, but not cost us as many potential future runs?
  17. why is it necessary for lee's hitting value to be replaced in the exact position of LF? all that's important is that his hitting value is replaced in the batting order. he is a right-handed power threat in the middle of the order. as i stated before, rickie weeks seems like the most likely candidate to take on this role in the immidiate future, not hart or cruz. hart could then play LF and do his thing (get on base) at a different spot in the order, while not necessarily needing to match carlos lee's HR and RBI output. he would also be far cheaper, as has been pointed out, which may allow for upgrades in other areas. that said, i would like to keep lee until at least the all-star break to get a better idea of what each prospect is capable of producing at the major league level. don't trade him until we are certain it won't leave us with holes in the batting order.
  18. my vote is to keep carlos around, at least until the all-star break in 2006. at that time, cruz and/or hart will have had a little more time to show whether or not they are ready to pick up the slack. while the argument that his production in LF might be replacable is valid, trading lee would still leave somewhat of a hole in the middle of the order. if we trade overbay, that would leave jenkins as the only veteran in the middle of the order. while hart/cruz might be able to post a fairly solid OPS, i don't know if you can count on them yet to hit in the middle of the order. my hope is that rickie weeks proves next season that he is ready to bat in the 3-hole everyday, but until then, trading lee is going to be a huge risk which could potentially open up a gaping hole in the middle of the order. while playing the young talent is a key to winning, there is something to be said for having veteran run producers on the team as well.
  19. i think geno was pointing more towards a concern with jenkins' plate approach changing significantly if he feels he's the only true slugger in the lineup, rather than lee's low OBP affecting jenkins' rbi opportunities. if jenkins doesn't have other run producers (before or after him in the lineup) he starts trying to pull the ball out of the park all the time, and that can lead to some pretty bad at-bats / cold-streaks. i tend to agree with this philosophy about jenkins, and his below-average numbers from 2004 (his only season without another true slugger) would seem to support this, although there may have been other factors at work as well. however, i don't necessarily know that means we need to keep lee around in 2006 to shoulder the load of right-handed slugger. rickie weeks anyone? hey, look what happened with corey hart. people constantly scoffed at the idea of hart moving back to third, but look what happened. legitimate talks about him playing some 3B have resumed. let a man dream! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. why is it so important for somebody to admit they're wrong, particularly concerning something that has no right or wrong answer? some people look at branyan's numbers and feel he was a success this season. others feel that he was out too often with injuries and/or didn't do enough to consistently contribute. there is no right or wrong answer. it's an opinion.
  21. this discussion was more or less started in the other thread with the question of whether or not bunting is an essential fundamental, and if it is a big deal that butch wynegar hasn't gotten a lot of these guys to be able to bunt properly. the debate about whether or not bunting is a good idea is an interesting one. like it or not however, ned yost is our manager, and good decision or not he likes to bunt a lot. this most likely isn't going to change as i doubt he will ever be swayed by these so-called "statistics" people speak of. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif with that in mind, i feel that bunting is going to be an essential skill to play on this team. while maybe we shouldn't have bunted in some/many of the situations that came along this season, when called upon to do it, lots of the guys failed miserably with pop-outs, double plays, k's, etc. this ended up destroying numerous scoring chances throughout the season. so as long as ned yost continues his bunting ways, we really do need guys that are going to be able to get the job done.
  22. if it came down to eveland or davis/lehr, i'd say leave in eveland. while those other 2 are hard-throwing righties, they have a tendancy to either walk guys or miss their spots which kind of negates the good stuff. while turnbow misses his spots at times too, he usually at least doesn't end up grooving fastballs, and he throws SO hard, that he's much more likely to get away with a mistake. kane davis and lehr are just too inconsistent. to me, that was the most important situation that game was going to see. if you don't get bagwell out, you don't get another chance. i feel that situation was more in-need of your best pitcher than a 1 or 2 run lead to start the bottom of an inning with nobody on (save situation). therefore, i want our best guy in there. i can definitely see the logic to letting eveland try and finish working out of that jam though.
  23. i would have put in turnbow when bagwell came up. i just think that would have been a much more favorable matchup. as pointed out on the tv broadcast, bagwell had been hurt, and his bat-speed isn't much. i just feel like he couldn't have caught up to a turnbow fastball, whereas obviously he was able to catch up to eveland's. turnbow then should've been able to pitch the next inning as well had he been able to get bagwell out. in response to the hindsight comment, i felt bringing in turnbow was the move i would have made before eveland was left in and gave up the hit (although i wasn't on my computer at that moment, and therefore have no proof of this). so it's not like my reasoning was based solely on ned's decision not working out. again, that is just my personal philosophy on how i would have handled it. it wasn't a "no-brainer" by any means.
  24. i really would've liked to have seen turnbow in there as well, if for no other reason than i can't imagine bagwell being able to touch a turnbow fastball in his current condition. if he retires bagwell, he could've gone in the bottom of the 10th as well. i appreciate wanting to keep him for a save situation, but that really does us no good if we don't make it out of the 9th. my philosophy in that situation is to do anything you can to make it out of that inning, and if you're fortunate enough to take the lead at some point and put yourself in a save situation, deal with it then.
