    Truer words were never spoken. I second that notion. It's an absolute travesty that Arrested Development lasted less than 3 full seasons. It was one of the most original, witty, well-written and well-acted sitcoms on TV in a long time. I think its demise is comparable to if Seinfeld had gotten cancelled during the middle of its 3rd season. Reality shows are ruining television. They're much cheaper to produce, and the fact that they somehow get higher ratings than brilliant sitcoms makes me nauseous. People would rather watch America's Got Talent, Big Brother and Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy than see anything with an ounce of creativity or intelligence. As long as reality shows rule television, the chances of a good sitcom sticking around long on network TV is slim to none. I'm pretty shocked The Office and My Name is Earl have lasted as long as they have. ...Okay, that was my vent for the day. I just finished watching the final season of Arrested Development on DVD and I'm angry they didn't make more.

    I like to see Cirillo and the guys show some fire. I like to see Ned stick up for the guys like that. The umpire who ejected Cirillo looks like GOB Bluth.

    Think of it like this. The reason for a force is that the runner behind you HAS to advance to your base, because there are no empty bases anywhere behind you. In your example (runners on 1st and 2nd), the step on 3rd base makes the guy who was on 2nd out. That leaves one runner at 1st, and the hitter (who has to advance to 1st). You can't have 2 guys on 1st, so that means the runner who started on 1st is forced to 2nd, with the hitter being forced to 1st. You can record an out at either base. In the situation today, once Cirillo tagged 1st, the hitter was out, which means none of the runners in front of him were being forced forward. The runner who would have been forcing them all forward had been eliminated, so the runners didn't have to advance, and there was no force play anywhere. I probably just made things more confusing.

    correct me if I'm wrong, but he could have just tagged the guy standing on first base and then tagged the bag for a DP, right? I'm pretty sure that the guy going to second doesn't have a right to first base at that point. That is true, but it looked like Cirillo had already fallen on the base to force the hitter out at first anyway. And it would be near impossible to come up with the logic you used in the amount of time he had, I suspect. Cirillo is a pretty smart ballplayer.

    "Your" whatever gets me really frickin' irritated. I realize it only really matters when "your" a grammar nerd, but it really makes people look dumb.     It is NOT "The Smith's." It is "The Smiths," no apostrophe. Pluralization does not freaking need an apostrophe. Unless letters are missing (the family name is really "Smithenstein," but they could only afford so many letters) or there are some more words and only one person lives there ("The Smith's ugly wooden sign" , LEAVE THE APOSTROPHE OUT. That's different than what you said though. If your example of the sign is indeed short for "The Johnsons' house" it implies possesion/ownership. That's what you're missing, and why the apostraphe is necessary. Now, if the sign you refer to simply means "the Johnsons live here" you wouldn't need an apostrophe because it is just plural, not possesive/ownership. Usaully, putting a sign on something means "this object belongs to these people," so ownership is implied. Hope that made sense. edit: Oops. Yeah, hawing is correct. It should be Johnsons', not Johnson's like I originally said. Point remains the same that apostraphe is needed for possesion.

    I don't think it was a bad decision to leave Capuano in. I would have done the same thing. I do think that Kevin Mench might actually be worse defensively than Carlos Lee. That was pathetic. He can't hit either. He's a bad baseball player. BOO!

    what did bell get ejected for? i missed it ... billy got it for arguing a pitch that had been called a strike most of that day. i like billy hall but he did kinda throw a fit. Bell got ejected for arguing a called third strike. Then he kinda threw a fit.

    Suprised Bell is playing today after getting ejected yesterday. When Bell gets ejected, it's because he's a gritty pro who's trying to jumpstart and fire up the team. What a gamer. Back in the lineup the next day! When Bill Hall gets ejected, it's because he's immature. He needs to ride the pine for a few days to teach him a lesson.

    I really like this idea. There is no real week-to-week commitment, so people that won't have every saturday off (like me) can still play when available. Fall ball (2 nights a week) would have been too large of a commitment for me. We're also likely to get fresh blood out there from week to week, so lots more people might be able to get to know each other. So, how would it work? Whoever wants to show up can, and if there is enough for an actual game, we pick teams by drawing names out of a hat? I'm sure we'll figure something out. I like it, Jamie.

    Thanks, Russ. After reading the blog link you posted regarding ZR in another thread, I'd agree that it's not a very good metric. Seems like simply removing BOZ from the denominator (while still keeping the BOZ PO in the numerator) might make it a more telling, albeit still flawed, statistic? That way, getting to a ball outside of your zone would count almost as "extra credit" in a sense, rather than being treated as an out the player should have recorded. It still wouldn't account for shifts, but it might help improve the statistic somewhat.

    So, I've never been real familiar with most defensive metrics, but I've become somewhat interested in getting more aquainted with them. There was a post regarding Billy Hall in which an assumption was made that Prince's inability to dig out low throws has cost Hall defensive rating points on all fronts (including ZR). I thought that wouldn't be accurate, because what I've read about ZR is that it measures the number of balls fielded within the player's "zone." If that is the case, it shouldn't matter if a throw was converted into an out or not, as long as the defender fielded the ball. Does a ball-in-play need to be converted into an out to help a player's Zone Rating? Also, I was wondering what everybody here considers to be the best defensive metrics (preferably ones that are easily accessible by looking on the internet). Thanks.

    Those look amazing, ICN. One thing I noticed was some of them say "outfiled" instead of "outfield." Other than that, I think they look really cool, and thanks for taking the time to make them.

    Jimbo, I'm pretty sure in the bottom of the 4th, nullbyte was in LC for that relay play that got the runner out at 3rd base. That was a nice play by the way guys. Saved my butt considering that was a ball I should have gotten to and caught.

    just so everybody knows, i will be unable to attend this week's game (June 29 vs Bay Street Pub). i should be at all the remaining games after that, and will be willing to play any OF position or 1B, whenever it works best for the team. heck, maybe i could even try pitching and throw them for a loop with my lefty junk http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif . good luck on thursday, guys.
