  1. Cab drivers who go 85 MPH, while executing several Mario Andretti lane changes, all the while looking sideways rather than forward. Orlando was interesting.
  2. When a player is about to sign a new contract with his current team, he is re-signing, not resigning. There's a key difference in terms here. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=131868#p131868 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=2392
  3. Hall of Fame voters who are about to leave some deserving players out again, but who will no doubt manage to cast a vote or two for guys like Dante Bichette.
  4. The Yankees are refusing to pick up part of the tab for Johnson, so the team that gets him will pay him 16 million next season. The Diamondbacks have reportedly offered a package of three players, including "one major leaguer" and AZ has said they'd like a few days to negotiate an extension with Johnson if a deal is reached. Wow. Just how thin is the pitching market?
  5. Being back to work today....definitely bugging me.
  6. I'm not going to add 3000 links to one story, but one of the Johnson articles mentioned Dana Eveland as one of the young pitchers the Yankees have asked about.
  7. The Arizona press wants him back... www.azcentral.com/sports/columns/articles/1226dbacks1226.html The New York press wants him gone... www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/483262p-406776c.html It's funny to see the difference of opinions. If I were NY, I'd be more than willing to move him too.
  8. I agree with Pogo on this one. If a great deal comes along, that's one thing, but I think the team should move slowly here, pitching depth is a great thing to have, and vital to a postseason run. If a AAA pitcher is red hot in June or July, maybe then, but caution makes the most sense today.
  9. Guys, we can list off all of the leadoff options we want to, no matter what we think, it's obvious that the front office wanted a change there. Personally, I hope they leave it alone. First of all, Weeks can handle it for anther season, and secondly, we already have some sorting out to do in the outfield, if they add one for the leadoff spot...how does that fit?
  10. I think an outfielder is definitely going to go, I suspect it'll be Jenkins or Mench, with Clark staying on for one more season as a reserve. Something will have to give in the bullpen too, we don't have enough roster space to carry Cordero, Turnbow, Capellan, Wise, Aquino, Shouse, Sarfate, and possibly whoever doesn't win the #5 spot in the rotation. I really don't know what else the team would like to add, but they surely have the depth to take a deal if they like what someone offers. The only stated goal I can think of that they've missed on is adding a leadoff hitter. I don't know if they'll pursue that again or not.
  11. Runelvys Hernandez has signed with Boston.
  12. I don't think it's fair to say the Higuera deal lead to the loss of Molitor. If prior deals led to his exit, put it on the trifecta of Higuera, Robinson and Stubbs....quite an impressive run for Mr Dalton at the time.
  13. I agree with his overall assessment of the farm system, two impact talents on the way, with arms that need to stay healthy.
  14. The man signed Ernie Banks for the Cubs, and Mike Schmidt for the Phillies, then wound up a suicide as the Phillies were letting him go and his body was wearing out. I'd like to find that book too.
  15. I'll be there for sure, possibly two of us, but me for sure. Out of towners, I thought Pooley's made a lot of sense for you in particular. It's close to the interstate, easy to find, and also close to some hotels if you think you may need to avoid driving. This should be fun, Pooley's is a decent sports bar with room for plenty of us.
  16. This man scouted a close friend of mine back in the eighties. The Phils drafted Jeff in '87 (something like the 25th round) he chose not to sign. As the '89 draft was approaching, Tony came to see Jeff, had him throw off a mound for him, and told him he was going to see that he was drafted again...if Jeff promised he would sign. Jeff did promise, but then out of nowhere, without explanation, Tony shot himself a few days later. The scout's life was over, the young player returned to our hometown where he lives to this day. sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=lucadello
  17. Stat guys, help me out please... Suppan would be filling Davis' spot in the rotation, Suppan is said to be worth 2-3 wins above replacement level. What was Davis last year in this regard? If Davis was 2 wins below replacement, and Suppan is 2 wins above, is it fair to say the Brewers would be theoretically gaining 4 wins with this move?
  18. I would sign Suppan before Padilla, based on durability. I think Padilla has better stuff, and he could prove me wrong, but if I had to be safe with the money, I'd bet on Suppan first.
  19. Suppan's agent is earning his money, but this could become very annoying. Wait, no wait, Pittsburgh called back now, and we like them too, and somebody made an offer, and there's Milwaukee, and a mystery team, yeah, that's it... Pirates update... www.post-gazette.com/pg/06354/747460-63.stm
  20. Drunken, 40ish people trying to "dirty dance" with 20 year olds at a company Christmas party. If you first saw it in a movie 19 years ago...do not attempt, you are going to look stupid.
  21. I don't think Suppan will impact Sheets either. As far as the next two years go, Ben is already signed, and needs to regain durability so he can go get a HUGE deal. That horse is already out of the barn, with the deals that were handed out this winter, Ben may get 15 million a year if he's healthy in one of these next two years, he may push 20 if he has two good years. I don't think signing Suppan will cause Sheets to leave in two years, but if he wants to get top dollar, he will leave Milwaukee regardless....unless you think they'll commit a minimum of 60 million over four years to keep him.
  22. I can see why Schmidt picked LA, he said from the start that he'd stay on the coast, the Dodgers' talent isn't overwhelming at this point, but I do like their future more than that of the Giants or Seattle. Why Roberts chose SF, I don't know, but he may very well have done Milwaukee a favor. I wish I knew why Melvin thinks Suppan "would come here." The Brewers may have a better shot at this than we think.
  23. I could see Toronto getting into that, since they're trying to deal for a pitcher. If it does come down to the Brewers and Giants, we'll find out what matters to Suppan very quickly. He may want to go to the coast, or they may offer more cash...but if he wants to be on a team with a future, the Giants are ancient, the Brewers are rising around young talent. I'd like the odds for Milwaukee.
  24. During the winter meetings, it was said that the two teams had agreed to a deal, Roberts and Hayden Penn going to Atlanta for LaRoche and another player...but Peter Angelos refused to sign off because Roberts is a personal favorite.
