  1. Ohka's agent says several teams are in touch, but offers so far have been "below market value." That being the case, Tomo probably would have accepted arby, and obviously all of these teams are wary of his shoulder. He'll end up with an incentive-laden deal somewhere I'm sure.
  2. I'm trying to picture how this will work, I didn't think the teams were even in one place for the draft, isn't it done via conference call?
  3. Pittsburgh is a team that has young starters and is looking for an outfielder, Philly kept Rowand and appears to be stuck with Burrell...maybe the Pirates would deal a pitcher to Milwaukee if this happened.
  4. I have no idea who else is looking JBriggs. I also don't know how GMs would rank the guys they have to pick from. The Brewers aren't going to be able to push anyone around with the guys they're offering, but I still think they can get a deal somewhere. If it's true that eight teams asked about Mench, we've only discussed Baltimore, Philly and LA here, who are the others? One team that seems to be looking is Pittsburgh, they wanted to make a splash and get LaRoche, but they missed, I think something is possible there, but I don't know what they'd be offering. Can't you just see it...here we sit with extra infielders and extra outfielders....and we end up signing Mark Redman.
  5. Baltimore and Philly have both been in contact with Aubrey Huff's agent, if they're looking at guys like that...I refuse to believe all hope is dead regarding Mench or Jenkins. www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baseball/bal-os1207,0,5794685.story?coll=bal-sports-headlines Ditto Emil Brown, Reggie Sanders and Jacque Jones.
  6. They brought Bonds back, so maybe not.
  7. If it comes down to getting Leiber or Lopez, I'll day Leiber without question. If it comes down to hoping Turnbow bounces back or moving him, I think I'd move him. Maybe Mench will go to a team we haven't discussed at all.
  8. Cardinals meeting with Bonds today.
  9. OK, I'm done updating this thing....it's off. mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061206&content_id=1753129&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp
  10. It still looks like a go in Atlanta, pending health reports. www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/braves/entries/2006/12/06/braves_topheavy.html
  11. Actually Big Reed, I do think the Brewers can contend for the post-season in 2007. I think they need another pitcher, and I need to see how they sort out the LF spot. No matter how you slice it, they have to get durability and productivity out of Sheets, Hardy and Weeks. Yep, that's a lot of ifs, but the NL stinks right now and I'm not sold on anyone in the Central yet. Ask me when more questions are answered, both here, and around the division. On top of that, Mr Gallardo turns 21 in February, it would be very foolish to ride the whip on a young talent like that...he can get here in 2008, that's fine with me. Sooner works if we need him and he's ready to go, but waiting one more season seems preferable to me....he can buy his first six-pack in a few months. I would not play this as though the team can't get there next season, there is no machine to compete with, everyone has holes to fill.
  12. I'd rather throw a rookie out there as a 5th starter than a aging veteran who could possibly break down at any moment After seeing what happened when we ran Hendrickson/Eveland/Jackson out there last year....I do not agree. As for the money...Lieber is up for 7.5, isn't Mench expected to be around 4 million next season? How much will Turnbow get, the money seems like it should be reasonable. If it's not Leiber, that's ok with me, but I absolutely want one more starting pitcher for next season. Having Vargas and Villanueva guaranteed spots in the rotation, with minor league options of a not-ready Jackson and a VERY young Gallardo next in line...does not make me happy. That's rotten depth in my opinion, if someone goes down, so do we.
  13. Despite adding Schmidt, the Dodgers are still talking to Mulder and Suppan.
  14. You want Hamels for Mench and Turnbow? People would be fired the day that one happened.
  15. If that's true pogo...let's get Ethier.
  16. I'm a little confused on the Dodgers....they have Ethier and Kemp with Pierre in the OF...but they want to add one. Are they not sold on Kemp or something?
  17. This one was out there early this morning, but it's no sure thing. The Phils are also talking to Texas, trying to move Rowand, maybe getting relief help in that deal. The White Sox seem to have lots of options right now, if it really does hinge on them, this could take several days to play out. As far as Mench goes, Baltimore has been on again/off again...now they think they've got a shot at Luis Gonzalez again...whoever doesn't get him will be on the phone for Mench or Jenkins from the sound of things.
  18. Phillies are talking to Texas....Akinori Otsuka for Rowand and Floyd. It was one sentence in a long article from the Rocky Mountain News.
  19. I would also prefer Hendrickson over Lieber, by a lot. I'd take Lieber, but this deal looks better for sure.
  20. I'd be ok with getting Lieber in here for Mench...it's for one year, and I wouldn't be surprised if he put up an acceptable ERA and WHIP...maybe not, but he's no more of a gamble than Mench or Turnbow would be. If we give Mench and Turnbow, the money isn't much of an issue, but then I want something else in the deal too, there needs to be a young player or something.
  21. Braves would also get Armando Benitez. There must be some young players not mentioned too, unless I missed something, that reads as though the Giants would be getting Sexson, and only giving Benitez.
  22. dominant vs dominate As I understand it, one can hope to be dominant, or one can hope to dominate....one cannot hope to be dominate.
  23. Seems to be BHfan, and it seems as though the deal is Mench and TBow for Lieber.
