  1. I was going to mention Graffy in my original post, but I didn't think the Brewers would use him at leadoff, with his 340ish OBP.
  2. I realize the Brewers want Weeks to stick at 2B, and I don't blame them, but in an effort to improve the team D, and find someone else to lead off so Weeks can try to develop his power, is there a 2B who could come in and be a short-term solution? I think moving Weeks to CF and Hall to LF, and perhaps sticking somone like Loretta or Durham in at 2B as a leadoff guy for one, possibly two years might work. I don't know if either of those players still have leadoff skills, but I think going this route would give Milwaukee a very competitive lineup. If you had Hall, Weeks and Hart in the OF, Estrada behind the plate, with Koskie at 3B until Braun is there, Hardy, Fielder and a respectable veteran 2B in there, that works for me. Melvin missed on Pierre and Roberts, maybe Lofton works for a year, but I do not want a 2-year deal with a 40-year-old nomad. If a leadoff guy wasn't out there as a centerfielder, how about at 2B? Thoughts? Loretta or Durham? Anyone I may be overlooking?

  7. If I were Drew, I'd move quickly now, he's the last "big" bat left on the FA market. I doubt Philly is ready to forgive him yet, Baltimore tends to keep a distance from Mr Boras, etc. I'll bet the Red Sox and Cubs fight over Drew, with possibly Texas as a late entry. If I were Drew, I would get it done, teams will drop it and start looking at trades soon.
  8. Having seen what Pierre, Mathews, etc are getting this year, and with two nine figure deals in now.....who would have ever thought 15M for Dave Roberts would seem like stealing?
  9. On the whole holiday balancing act, I put 500 miles on my car 3-4 years in a row at Christmas time trying to make everyone happy. I stopped that and told everyone they were welcome at our house, and that I was willing to travel too, just not to multiple places. I don't see EVERYONE every year, but so what, I'm not fully exhausted by December 30 anymore. Gift giving got to be the same way. I love it, I enjoy the season, etc, but it got too big. I flat out had to cut some things back and I thought for sure I'd offend people when I did it....but no one said a word and things went along fine. I seem to have actually reeled in the holidays to something that's enjoyable again. I think the thought of "have to" wrecks the holidays for a lot of people, which is a real shame.
  10. Phillies are looking for a RH stick to split Howard and Utley up. If they sign one or trade for one, they will push to move Burrell even more. It's this point that makes no sense to me for the Phillies. I can see why they'd want to replace Burrell, they aren't happy with him, but he has a no trade, and he's already used it once, can you imagine if they sign Lee, then Burrell won't go? It's a calculated risk, and I'm sure they'd work things out one way or another, but it just looks like that group has no plan, just sign expensive guys, then dump them later and do the same thing again.
  11. It's a good thought NeedMore, but then you've got the wife's family to consider.....http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Is it just me, or should the words "Bidding war with Baltimore and Philadelphia" be enough to stop the Astros?
  13. Damian clearly wore down last year, I'd like this signing and I think Zaun might get more playing time in '07 than some expect.
  14. Someone help me out here.... Burrell is a fairly stonefooted LF, who's only other real option defensively is 1B, where the Phillies have Ryan Howard. The Phils are aggressively pursuing Carlos Lee to play LF and hit behind Howard, Burrell has a no trade clause and thus far hasn't been cooperative with Philly management. Does this make any sense? If the Phils do land Carlos, what's up with Burrell?
  15. The free agent market.
  16. Another major-league official who has negotiated with Lee's representative also has been told that one team has put a six-year deal on the table for Lee. Third paragraph.
  17. Wow, a six-year offer? www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4352712.html
  18. If I walked on a car lot and found a car that should be priced at 22K sitting there for 34K, I'm gone, no need for the sales guy to walk out there. If I found out later that someone had paid 34K for that car, yes, I would be apt to say "holy crap." That's not cheap, it's intelligent. True, if someone else feels like the car is worth 34K, they have the right to buy it and get on home. I hope the Cubs and Dodgers like their new cars, but from my perspective, I consider the Cubs to have a slight lead over the LA for the Winter '06 Holy Crap Award.
  19. If you ask me, "very good" is exactly what Carlos is, the problem is, he's about to be paid like he's great. Someone will be sorry.
  20. That is why I brought him up, wondering if anyone knew anything about the knee issue, and whether or not it would really stop him from changing positions. He does look like a good young hitter, if.
  21. I'm going to agree with brett here, given the size of Pierre's deal, it seems like a safe bet that someone will outbid the Brewers for Roberts. Maybe the Brewers will turn to Lofton, if not him, I guess Weeks leads off again.
  22. I read the same thing AJAY, a chronic knee issue.
  23. Pierre to Dodgers? www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.aspx?sport=MLB
  24. ESPN is reporting that Baltimore is now competing with Houston for Carlos Lee.
