  1. I wondered about this point when Miller Park first opened. After a couple of seasons it had a reputation as a good home run hitting park, but the Brewers lineup was full of free swingers and the pitching staffs were horrible. Is Miller Park really a good homer park, or will it look fairly average after 15 years of play?
  2. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the Pirates are backing away from Suppan. It's not real specific, just that discussions have definitely cooled.
  3. I can't post the article, because it's from ESPN Insider, but Buster Olney says several execs have told him the Jays are pushing hard to deal Rios for a starting pitcher now that Vernon Wells has signed. The two names most often mentioned have been Brad Penny and Joe Blanton, though the A's reportedly turned that idea down. The Phillies want in, using Lieber and...but so far they can't agree on what would come with him. The Mets want Rios, but the Jays aren't sold on Heilman as a starter...that could wind up being a multi-player deal.
  4. No Peavey, I haven't seen anything on the web that supports this rumor.
  5. I can't find it either, where did you hear that Yo?
  6. Just this afternoon, Melvin said he had interest, but had not yet made an offer, I think the 24 hour thing isn't in the cards. milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061215&content_id=1762204&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  7. I don't see Rios coming here either, I mentioned him because Fox Sports claimed he would be available for pitching if the Jays do get Wells signed. It seems as though Wells is going to take their deal, so I mentioned Penny. I don't know if the Dodgers are after Rios, but there might be something there.
  8. Pettitte also has a player option for a second year.
  9. Rios is rumored to be available for a starting pitcher once Vernon Wells has signed with Toronto. This is why I would welcome a 4-year with Suppan. If a thing like this happens two years from now, we could move Suppan in a deal for a less expensive, young player like this. Maybe not straight up, but a deal could be worked around the two players. Could Toronto be where Brad Penny lands?
  10. I agree Al, I'd welcome the move, I'd just wince like crazy. If Mr Attanasio ok's the checks...then go for it. The only way it'll tick me off is if we wind up dumping a better player than Suppan because of salary concerns when these young guys start to work through arbitration. Guys have to stay healthy, and there's a lot of offseason left, but one more veteran arm could make the Brewers the best team in the division next season. I just have a tough time thinking Suppan is the guy, he's solid, but he definitely isn't a guy I ever envisioned signing a 40 million dollar contract. Oh well, baseball is a crazy world, where else could you make 10% of what your vacation and sick time replacement was getting?
  11. I would welcome Suppan to the team for sure, I've advocated bringing in one more veteran starter, but the price will freak me out I'm sure when I hear it. Get him if you think you should Doug, so I can start talking out of both sides of my mouth about what a good move it is, and what a bad contract it is.
  12. The Yankees asked for Richie Sexson in return for Pavano. Am I the only one who finds that very amusing?
  13. Huff's numbers over the last four years... HR-34, 29, 22, 21 RBI-107, 104, 92, 66 OPS- .922, .853, .749, .813 It would seem Jenkins isn't the only one on the decline.
  14. I could envision something like a 4 year, 40 million deal here, without a no trade clause. The Brewers could do that, fully intending to move him in two years. Somebody always needs a pitcher, and hopefully the guys like Gallardo and Inman would be in place by then, making Suppan expendable. That's actually a pretty good plan....unless Suppan has an injury in the meantime.
  15. I really don't see Huff as much better than Jenkins, but we'd be tied to him for more years. With 65 outfielders already here, I just don't see the Brewers having an interest in adding a new one who seems to be declining. Has Huff been versatile on defense, or has he been moved around because he wasn't particularly good at any position?
  16. I also think the Brewers would rank behind only the Mets in the pecking order here....but that may not matter either. Suppan just got himself a ring, he may choose to be closest to home, or just plain take the most money.
  17. foolishly playing a scenario out in your head, it doesn't go quite as you saw it. I believe that's what is known as "marriage."
  18. Huff will help someone next season, but the Brewers have no place to put him.
  19. "That said" has had its run....bring back "however"
  20. This one would make no sense at all to me, the only thing that would work is if Barmes is going in a 3-way deal.
  21. After watching the Twins try the cheap route with guys like Batista, White and Sierra, I doubt they'll give up anything of real value to get a left fielder. A good friend of mine is a big Twins fan and it drives him nuts.
  22. Who would you choose? We know about Ohka, some other possibilities are tony armas steve trachsel Mark Redman My first reaction is to ask about Lieber again...who do you like?
  23. Kubel is not out for the year again. He did just have surgery on his other knee, but it was much less severe than what went on before...the Twins say he'll be ready for spring training.
  24. Personally, I do think he's going to play, and I do not think he'll stay in Houston. I think the Yankees and Red Sox will both push hard, I'll pick Boston, and then retirement at the end of the '07 season.
  25. How about the Nieves Negateus, the Correa Nowayea or the Hill Hiatus.
