  1. is it just way too soon to be calling up Escobar? Yes, I believe it is too soon for Escobar...he's not hitting well in AAA so far, why push it? To me, it makes a lot more sense to leave Gamel in Milwaukee, and platoon him with Hall.
  2. Yes, Invader...that is indeed The Doorman...aka Rickey24.
  3. So far, I'm way off...which makes me very happy in this case.
  4. Manny Parra, over his last four starts, has gone 3-1, with 24 Ks in 24 IP. I'm very happy for Manny, and I see a young pitcher who is beginning to progress at the major league level. BUT In those same four games, Manny has walked 14 batters over those 24 IP. This team needs Manny Parra - right now. Beyond that, a quick glance through the minor league system shows most of the better pitchers still years away - this team needs Manny Parra for a while. Manny has gone 6 IP in each of his last four starts - but he has not gone beyond 6 IP once this season, because his pitch count gets too high, too early. At this point, Manny's got 39 Ks in 43.1 IP, but he also has 26 BB...which is horrible. I see a guy with great stuff and improving confidence...but there's no doubt, if he continues to allow this many baserunnners, the law of averages will kill him, sooner or later. Is Manny a young guy, who is beginning to blossom right now...or will Manny always be a 6 inning guy, who pitches himself in and out of trouble? Thoughts?
  5. Lackey made his season debut for the Angels today, in Texas. His first pitch went behind Ian Kinsler, his second pitch hit Kinsler in the ribs...at that point, Lackey was ejected. After six weeks of waiting...two pitches and gone...that has to be a first.
  6. There are several, right here on this site. I'll start with Brian, Mass Haas, and Colbyjack....but there are several others.
  7. I have no idea why, but I've been wondering about this....who's the ugliest rock star of all time?
  8. I've got a buddy who has known Frank's family for years...everyone on Long Island is turning cartwheels over this news. I'm for it...why not? There's not much risk in it, and he may prove to be a solid pinch-hitter.
  9. I think Rickie looks much more confident this year, both at the plate and in the field. He's not up there flailing away, he's looking for something to hit, and putting good swings on the ball...and in the field, he actually looks like he expects to make the play, instead of standing out there thinking himself into trouble. Who knows what the stats will tell us at season's end, but so far, I do think Rickie is much improved over anything I've seen from him since he came up.
  10. A person I know plays both sides of the fence like nothing I've ever seen. (on the phone with Steve)...."Hey Steve, yeah, I know, Bob sucks. Yeah, we'll have to do something about him, I'm sure glad you're around." (turns to me)..."That was that loser, Steve...he's a nice guy, but...." I hate weasels....they bug me.
  11. I'll say 14-14, leaving the Crew right at .500 to begin June.
  12. Pedro remains the coolest of all BF.netters.
  13. As fans of the Milwaukee Brewers, I think it's time we showed some appreciation for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Please post your "Thank You, Pittsburgh" photos in this thread. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa319/toddecopp/ThankyouPittsburgh.jpg
  14. How's your prediction looking....I need a 2-1 finish to hit it.
  15. Casey, you are correct...Merle wanted to work the Summer Olympics, but the team wouldn't grant him the time off...so he was out. The worst part about that whole this was, those were the Moscow Olympics, which the US boycotted anyway.
  16. When the Wisconsin State Journal ran an article on my stepson, and his rare skin disease - we got lots of calls from people wishing us well and offering support, but we also heard from several people trying to sell us one miracle cure or another...we really got a look at both sides of human nature.
  17. Absolutely stunning. Mr Adenhart had all the promise in the world as a pitcher...the world is nearly at your feet one minute, and then it's all gone. Wow.
  18. The Cubs will win the division, as the Reds take a step up, and the Brewers' pitching does just enough...which isn't enough. Along the way, DL time will increase for this rapidly aging team...2009 is the end of the current window for this bunch...too many of them are reaching the wrong side of the clock - and they know it - which is why you see the front office grabbing obvious health risks in Harden and Bradley, in attempt to get it done. 2009 has a chance to be special on the north side....but a bloated, underperforming payroll is drawing near.
  19. I think 25 wins from these two is beyond question this season, health permitting. 30 may be the upper limit for realistic expectations, but on pure talent, I think they could reach as high as 35 wins between them. I know it won't wind up being this simple, and we all know somebody will get hurt, etc - but I don't think it's pushing things in the least to project roughly 12 wins each from Suppan, Bush and Looper, and 28-30 from the young guys. "Wins" is kind of a goofy stat, since it depends on scoring and defense, etc - but one thing that may benefit the win totals of both guys is their ability to hit. They may get an extra IP from time to time because they weren't pulled for a pinch hitter as quickly as some guys would have to be.
  20. OK, let's hear it...what will the Brewers' record be in the month of April? They play... at SF - 3 Chi - 3 Cin - 3 at NY- 3 at Phi - 3 at Hou - 3 Pit - 3 AZ- 1 Only two off-days in April...I don't think I've ever seen that. 10 at home, 12 on the road...the Giants' top pitchers, the Cubs, Mets and Phillies...the guys had better be ready to go! I say 11-11
  21. My first reaction is to request a future leadoff hitter, regardless of position. I wouldn't want to see them take a guy just because he's fast, and then tell us he'll be the leadoff guy in a few years, but if they could find a kid with good OBP skills, etc, and start grooming him for that spot right out of the draft, I'm all for it. I know the team didn't get as many picks as they had expected, etc, but they do still have some extra picks to play with this year....I'd repeat last year's approach - BPA, and then lots of arms. They'll always have to develop as much of their own pitching as possible, and pitchers get hurt....so grab a bunch while you have the chance.
  22. It's March 1...spring is coming....and there will be baseball.
  23. I always liked Paul's show when I was a kid, same story, I heard it in the morning on the way to school. What an amazing career.
  24. Detroit is the first team that comes to mind for me, they've got a big-time payroll, and we all know what's been happening in the auto industry....that's bad math. I do think the Blue Jays are a good fit here too, if they fall out of things early on. That division is stacked, I can't see why ownership there would keep guys just for the sake of keeping guys. Roy Halladay comes to mind immediately.
