  1. *golf clap* I tried to write this post earlier and gave up because I couldn't do it as well. He did this one post well in this thread, but it's a small sample. Too early to come to any real conclusions. It's the Yuni walk of posts.
  2. The silver lining of not getting to play the Braves is game(s) 350 miles away with tickets at face value. Is anyone else going to the Phoenix games? Haven't seen azcheesehead around for a while.
  3. He said aspirin. Now immediately somebody tries to change the focus to acetaminophen and ibuprofen. The lack of analytic discipline is increasingly worrisome . . .
  4. So according to the win expectancy finder during the period they were tracking games (1957 to 2005) there were 2168 times the home team was down 5 with 1 out to go and nobody on and 1 time they won (0 of 65 times in extra innings). So it has happened at least once before. Elias etc. will probably tell us when by tomorrow. The closest I can remember is in 2004 (May I think) when the Brewers were down 5-0 in the bottom of the 9th to the Expos, Livan Hernandez was mowing us down, got the 1st guy out, then gave up a couple, the reliever came in and blew the lead and Wes Helms hit a walkoff in extras. I remember Rick Monday talking about that one too when the Brewers came to LA a few weeks later. And it could be worse - there is at least 1 time when a team has been down 6 with 1 out to go and nobody on and come back to win.
  5. Well Rick Monday said that Micah Owings was going to be 7-1 so he gets some of the blame too. At least it was only 10 out here - my brother called from 1 EDT land for the bottom of the 10th and I called the whole painful thing for him.
  6. I had dinner with a Dodger season ticket holder last night and mentioned to him that the Padres announcers (mostly Leitner) were solidly for Braun because it is Most Valuable Player not Most Outstanding Player and how valuable can you be if your team doesn't win. His response, the Dodgers are over .500 so they're winners right? I think "winning" means are you helping your team win meaningful games in September and Kemp's monster month has come in a month of meaningless games (for the Dodgers; as someone mentioned the 3 run HR made him our MVP for the night). My friend acknowledges it's going to be tough for Kemp for MVP although he thinks Kershaw is a lock for Cy Young (that's a stretch but I didn't argue).
  7. Again horrible play by the Cards. Error sets up the walkoff. They sac twice to set up 2d and 3d with 1 out and fail both times. Their late surge has been very strange.
  8. The Cardinals all wore Hawaiian shirts for their trip to Houston yesterday. I wonder where they got that idea.
  9. Random observation, Corey laughs at Uecker way too much, it seems phony since he laughs as if he just heard the best joke of his life every time Ueck makes any joke. Like hes trying to suck up to him, we get it, Uecker is funny. He says plenty of things that evoke actual laughter, just not every time he opens his mouth.Yeah he is Ed McMahon. But this one was good, Ueck set it up well.
  10. Ueck and Corey literally giggling as they discuss Pujols' contract demands. On Furcal: "He was talking about how much he likes St. Louis. I don't think he likes St. Louis very much anymore."
  11. Or as they always used to say: Meet the Mets Meet the Mets Step right up and beat the Mets. But not today. Cardinals' bad defense and shaky bullpen finally does them in, after a bunch of games when they should have but didn't.
  12. It's hard to see how the Cardinals are winning games. They are making a lot of errors. Their bullpen isn't very good. I think it's mostly that they are playing teams without anything to play for while they are playing every game like it's an elimination game, which it essentially is. They got a break when the Phils' off day before that 4 game series turned into a DH or that's probably not a series win. I'm not sure there's a reason to be too scared of them. Back when the games really counted they couldn't even play .500. That said, the Braves are playing even worse so I'd rather see them in there.
  13. Roenicke resting Yuni so he'll be at peak form for the playoffs.
  14. Are we going to have a ground rule in advance for Brent Fav-reh?
  15. Sutcliffe et al annointed Braun MVP on BBTN last night, now leaving no doubt.
  16. Right I meant winning now - they want to see what he can do when it counts.
  17. Whoever here said it was bad luck for us that Utley wasn't playing in Miller Park was right - I think if the Phils cared about winning he wouldn't be in there.
  18. Ibanez has left 5 on in 3 innings, 4 in scoring position. Thanks for the help guy.
  19. My wife says he looks like a lemur. So I guess she's with hawing.
  20. I am not a liar is right up there with I am not a crook. I think everyone is on to the Cards and understands there's a reason they're the most hated team in baseball. Except the umps maybe. Why is it that Carpenter starts it, Pujols escalates it and Morgan is the one thrown out? I'm getting a new understanding of this Driving While Black thing.
  21. The Brewers were pretty strong down the stretch in 82 (16-11 in Sept., 19-11 in Aug.) - it got close because the Orioles played about .750 over their last 40-45 games not because the Brewers stumbled.
  22. If they win tonight the Cards will have taken 3 series from the Brewers this year, all of them essentially meaningless in terms of improving their chances of winning the division (2-3 % total). The Brewers have already taken 3 series from the Cardinals, all of them huge in improving their chances of winning the division (30+ % total). The Cards did a nice job of winning when it didn't count. Nice throw CC. First call that goes the Brewers' way all night and TLR runs out there to moan.
