  1. I'll second the Community Center idea. My wife and I were married over 16 years ago and had our reception at the Dousman Community Center. I think we spent about $3,000 total on our wedding when it was all said and done and to this day we have friends and family tell us that it was the funnest and most memorable wedding they have ever been to. We decorated the place ourselves the night before right after the rehearsal dinner. We had a buffet (nothing fancy turkey, beef, something like that iirc) and a DJ. It was almost 2am and everyone was still there having a great time. The people running the community center finally had to tell us that we needed to "wrap it up". I just think people are more relaxed and comfortable when it's not one of those "Cinderella" weddings. Although, this is what some brides really want. Fortunately for me, my wife and I both were looking for the same thing. Save the money for a nice honeymoon, or better yet, a down payment on a house.
  2. I have a Cooperstown calendar at work and I had no idea that Hank Aaron's and Babe Ruth's birthdays were only a day apart. Aaron's is on Feb 5th, and Ruth's is on Feb 6th.
  3. Shipping time and costs. I ordered something from Amazon. I amount of the order was enough that I qualified for free shipping, but it was 5-9 day shipping. Not a big deal, didn't need the item immediately. However, I don't understand why it would ever take 5-9 days to ship something. I ordered the item on Feb 1st. It shipped Feb 3rd and I'm not expected to get it until Feb 10th?! This is what the tracking info states: Date Time Location Event Details February 3, 2010 08:37:11 PM Lexington KY US Your package is currently in transit. You will not see any tracking updates for the next 3 days. February 3, 2010 08:37:11 PM Lexington KY US Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit Why won't I see any tracking updates for 3 days? It's going from Lexington to Milwaukee. What are they using? A mule? Does the package just sit somewhere because I didn't pay the extra costs to get it quicker, even though there would be no required extra effort to ship it quicker? I don't get it. It all just seems like a huge scam.
  4. I'll go Nicholas Cage - Raising AZ and Glen Close - Fatal Attraction. Although, I'll readily admit that I have not seen several of the other films. Raising Arizona is one of my all time favorite films.
  5. Who's going to argue with you? No he's not your favorite player.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Every time this topic comes up I think about how great it is that the Brewers we're able to get a long term extention with Braun (I forget, was it 2 or 3 extra years that they got out of that deal?). I like Fielder better, but the Braun contract is, in my opinion, the best deal that Melvin has made in his GM tenure with the Brewers.
  6. Anyone ever have a situation at work, in a meeting or whatever, where someone keeps using a term that you are unfamiliar with but you don't want to ask because everyone else seems to understand and it might make you look stupid? Well, there have been several meetings at work where my co-workers keep using the term "one-off". I had no idea what they were talking about. So, finally I looked it up. I get it now. I do feel better that the source I found stated that the use of this term has just recently gained popularity in the United States.
  7. Yeah, I'm not getting it either. Really not a big risk here as far as I can see. From what I understand, he sat out in 2009 because he did not get an offer to his liking. I also understand that he showed up at some StL charity event and told LaRussa he would play for minimum wage. Apparently the Cards didn't take him up on that. So, I would think he would really be out to prove all the nay sayers wrong this year.
  8. They are running reruns of the Tonight show, but with Conan instead of Leno. I'm not complaining (I like Conan better), I'm just surprised. Perhaps they figure it would be too much of an overload of Leno..on at both 9 and 10:30.
  9. If you read the above posts and the quote from the Brewer's spokesperson, they are not doing this to raise extra revenue, they are doing it so that they can add extra security and police in the drop off and pick up areas. This added fee will not even cover that entire extra expense, but it will help. I'm guessing that the bar patrons that use the shuttle would not balk at paying a $1 fee (afterall, this is being done for their safety). This would more than offset the cost to the Bars.
  10. I'm really surprised that NBC is running reruns of Conan at the 10:30 slot. I would have just thought they would cut all ties to O'Brien and maybe run reruns of The Tonight Show with Leno, or possibly just put a rerun of some one hour drama show in that slot.
  11. Was this back in the 80's? I remember watching a lot of this back then..perhaps it was Ted Turner at the time.
  12. Don't want to be "nitpickey", but I noticed on the salaries page that Todd Coffey's extra $2 is being included. Is this really necessary? It's making the total salaries at the bottom a bit hard to read. I think rounding at the thousandths place would be fine.
  13. Actually, I was thinking clip show might = want to give actors extended time off before putting together a bunch of new episodes. Then, I remembered that the Olympics start on NBC soon and there will be another 2 weeks without new episodes.
  14. The Olympics take up most of February. I have really been enjoying the Tonight Show this week. Conan and Adam Sandler both took some great shots at NBC last night. I guess I was under the impression that before all of this started, that the plan was to show Olympic highlights until 10:45 and then start the tonight show (like they have done in the past with U.S. Open Tennis and Golf events). But, considering the Olympics are on the west coast, I guess it would make sense that full coverage would continue after prime time.
  15. Well, look's like the settlement is final: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100121/ap_en_ot/us_tv_leno_o_brien I hope Conan gets to take his theme song with him. I always liked that lead in to the show. I wonder what they will show in that time slot until March 1st? I think it would be great if they showed old classic tonight show reruns with Johnny Carson.
  16. I like the additional depth added to the starting rotation...but I'm going to going to guess that the Brewers will lead the league in average length of games this year. Not because their pitchers are deliberate on the mound, but because most of the rotation (except for maybe Gallardo) tends to work a lot with men on base.
  17. Where is this speed trap...Mayberry? Are there really cops that give out speeding tickets for going less than 5 mph over the limit? It seems like it would be fairly easy to fight this based on accuracy of the speed gun.
  18. Since there is not a Haiti thread, I guess I'll post this here. I went on Google maps, because I wanted to just get a general idea of the size and density of Port-au-Prince, I was really surprised to see that the satellite images they have appear to be post-earthquake.
  19. If I didn't know who you were talking about, I'd would have guessed Chloe, because this description matches her to a tee. I liked her on "The Larry Sander's Show", but she is really painful to watch on 24. Horrible acting. Not a fan of lost, but I recognized him from "The Green Mile"
  20. I saw Jay Leno live back in the mid 80's before he "dumbed down" his act. He actually did a gig at UWM in the cafeteria (this was a few years before they built the "food court" that is there now). I wish I could remember the name of the room that UWM used as the cafeteria. I think tickets were something like $6 a piece or something like that and he didn't really draw a huge crowd. He was somewhat of an unkown at the time (I don't remember the exact year..sometime between 85 and 88). I do remember it being a pretty funny show though.
  21. When I was younger, I was a big fan of Letterman (Mid 80's through 90's). That was when he use to go out on the street and goof on people, and he had characters like Larry "Bud" Melman and Chris Elliot (or the guy under the stairs). Then, I got a job, got married, had a child and late night TV was not really on my radar any more. Occasionally I would get a chance to watch Letterman and realized that many of the things that use to make him funny were no longer featured in his show. Lately, because of a conversion my company is going through, I've been doing a lot of work at home late at night. While I'm doing this, I usually have the TV on and casually pay attention to it. I really like Conan O'Brian. It's much better than what Letterman offers now and I think he's better than Leno. I hope Leno turns down the move and just lets O'Brian keep his time slot. I get the feeling NBC is hoping Leno goes away. Offering him a half hour show sound to me like they are saying "We'll give you a half hour show if you want it...but you don't really want that do you?"
  22. I purchased an Ipod touch for my son for Christmas. I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong when it comes to downloading apps, songs, video, etc onto the Ipod touch. For example this morning he purchased a song. This was the process. We went to Itunes, purchased the song and it was added to his music library on his PC. Then, in order to transer the song to the Ipod Touch, we need to sync it (or at least, that's the only way I know). This is what I don't get. I can't just sync the new song he purchased. I have to "re-sync" everything. If I don't do that, then he loses the songs he previously synced onto his Ipod Touch. I'm sure there has to be a better way and I'm just not aware of it. What if you no longer want the songs, video, apps, etc on your PC but you still want them on your Ipod Touch? Can anyone give any advice on this?
  23. I think at some point the computer and TV will be the same thing. However, right now, it all seems a bit clumsy. I'm not a fan of watching movies or TV on my computer...so unless I can get the picture on my TV, in an easy fashion, then I'll continue to watch and pay for TV the conventional way. I know someone is going to explain how easy it is to hook up the computer to the TV, but what about sound? What about recording shows (DVR, TIVO)? I'm not quite ready to drop cable yet. Also, when I do watch a video on my computer, sometimes I get the "buffering" pause. That would be maddening to watch TV that way.
  24. I'm usually a fairly agressive driver, to put it mildly. However, I turn into a complete granny when the weather is like this.
  25. Took me 1.5 hours to get from Waukesha to Milwaukee this morning. Left at about 6:50.
