  1. plus, I'm guessing that Heyward will make his debut for the Braves at some point in 2010.
  2. If I'm not mistaken, the vote for MVP, Cy Young, etc. is done at the end of the season, before the playoffs start. So, Lincecum's marijuana issue should not be a factor.
  3. Parents who allow their children to scream in a high, shrill, ear piercing, manner without any admonishment or explanation to them that it's inconsiderate or improper behavior. edit: This falls in the same category with people who leave their dogs outside and allow them to bark endlessly without bringing them in.
  4. I'll agree that this probably was not one of the funnier episodes of the season. However, Michael is supposed to be moronic and inept. His social compass is way out of line. That's part of his character. He's supposed to make you squirm at the things he says and does. It's not supposed to be "realistic" it's supposed to be a caricature of reality. To me it's like House or Larry David (although, right now, Larry David is by far my favorite "character" on TV). If these guys just acted normal and maybe occasionally said or did something outrageous or shocking, they really would not be that interesting to watch on TV.
  5. I grew up watching Yount, Molitor, and Ganter be mainstays in the Brewer's lineup. No matter what else changed, you always knew those guys would be in the lineup year after year. I would love to see a similar situation with Braun and Fielder instead of having a completely new team every 5 years.
  6. Sorry, A few NSFW words in this, but this was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread..
  7. Ok..well maybe I just think contracts are completely out of control in MLB in general.
  8. I think this is an interesting idea. I think some people are not happy with the term "pocketing". However, I really think kilgore meant it might be better to "bank" the money for a future date when the market is a little more favorable to buyers. It really reminds me of when the Brewers went out and signed Hammonds. I think there was a lot of pressure on the Brewers at that time to do something big going into the new stadium. Sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something stupid that will haunt you for years to come. I guess the difference between now and the "Hammonds era" is that the Brewers have two legitimate stars on their roster right now in Braun and Fielder and a solid young pitcher in Gallardo. So, there is always the fear that they will blow this "window of opportunity". There are not a whole lot of pitchers on the market right now that I would be willing to sign to a LT deal.
  9. I think this contract is completely crazy. Jack Wilson? 5 mil per year?!
  10. So here is a picture in the J/S this morning of Gov. Doyle signing the child care reform bill. I'm hoping that someone in the know can tell me why so many pens are necessary. I'm guessing that there are multiple places that he needs to sign and that each time he signs he uses a different pen and hands a pen to someone there as a "momento". Is this correct? http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/7f0350da9ac27564f5bc9a9210af78b9e948efb.pjpg
  11. Not sure if this was brought up yet (scanning through the thread, did not see it), but it appears that the original list on this thread of projected salaries for 2010, does not include C. Hart? Is it the general consensus that the Brewers will not offer him arbitration? Also, do players basically get an automatic $2-3 million raise in arby for just staying alive for another year? Yikes, if those arby projections are anywhere close to being accurate, that's sad.
  12. The last part (with them pointing "weapons" at each other) would have been funnier if Creed walked in, took a quick look, and then walked out again , or maybe just poked his head in and said "leaving now, boss".
  13. Thanks for the interview Todd. Good stuff. Not to be too nit picky, but there appears to be a misspelling in the caption below the picture on the home page. It states "he game Milwaukee some good ABs". I'm guessing it should read "gave".
  14. I almost always get the normal flu shot. Not this year. Last year my wife (who also got the flu shot) and I both got the flu (violently sick) on the same day. The normal flu shot is for the respiratory flu, not stomach flu. I always knew this, but got the shot anyways because I thought there has to be some reason people are getting this shot. Not any more. How bad can the respiratory flu be? Like a bad cold? Seems like a pointless shot for someone who is relatively healthy. When they come out with a shot for the stomach flu, I'll be in line. Also, it doesn't sound like the Swine flu involves vomiting. To me it's not a flu, unless something flies out of your mouth. I can handle bad colds and fevers. I can't handle throwing up.
  15. How often are "random" test done in MLB? I was under the assumption that each player got tested at least 2 or 3 times a year. I'm assuming Lincecum didn't just start smoking pot. So, how has he passed the tests? How is he masking it? This is what bothers me a little. Not so much for pot, but it makes me wonder how many players have found ways to mask steroids.
  16. I liked Toby demonstrating to Pam how to properly get enough power behind her punch with Michael looking on in the backround. It bugs me a little how critical some are becoming towards this show, but I guess I have the same attitude towards "24" which I find to be very over the top and not true to it's "real time" gimmick. My wife and son get annoyed with me when we are watching and I'm sitting there rolling my eyes.
  17. Does there need to be a full beverage service on every flight? Went to Orlando over the Halloween weekend. Had a conecting flight in Atlanta. Atlanta to Orlando is a little over an hour, but yet they still served beverages. Seems like a bit of a waste to me. I would rather they save money, not serve beverages (except maybe water) on flights less than 2 hours and use those savings to lower fees.
  18. I don't know what's more amazing about that video, the fact that he swatted it out of the air or the fact that he just casually picked it up with his bare hands. Then handed it to another guy who again, just casually took it with his bare hands!
  19. Not to get too preachy, but just remember, you won't be young forever. When I was in my teens and 20's I could drink all the soda I wanted without noticing any effects at all (weight gain, sleeplessness, crashing). Now that I'm older it has all caught up to me and the consumption of Mt. Dew is taking it's toll. Bad habits that begin at a younger age are very hard to break. I have been fortunate so far in that my 11 year old son hates soda. He can not stand the carbonation. I think in his life he has had the equivalent of 3 or 4 oz. of soda so far. I'm hoping that he never develops a taste for the evil liquid.
  20. Saw this article on Yahoo Sports: More on Caron Butler's extreme Mountain Dew addiction I'll admit that I'm addicted to the sweet nectar as well. I have cut back a bit over the years. I use to have 3 during the day and one at night just about every day. About 2 or 3 years ago I cut down on my day time consumption and now and I only have one during the day, at lunch. During the week I can sometimes find the will power to avoid having one at night, but the craving is really bad. I get headaches when I go a few days without it. Weekends are a killer. I usually go through anywhere from 6 to 12 Dews from Friday night through Sunday night. About 4 or 5 years ago I went just about cold turkey for about 3 weeks and I swear I lost 10 pounds without changing anything else in my life. It was noticeable. Curse you Mountain Dew!! edit: Why every time I do a paste of a link, then do a spell check, do I get these yellow highlights that I can't get rid of? edit 2: fixed code to eliminate yellow --1992
  21. My wife and I are going as the SNL Spartan cheerleaders. It's a store bought costume. Normally, we don't dress up, but we will be at Disney World during Halloween.
  22. I also completely agree with paul253. The video is a small part of a longer situation and does not seem, in any way, to be as cut and dry as the article would lead the reader to believe. I would never condone excessive police actions, but I also have always had a hard time being overly sympathetic towards people who's questionable actions have gotten them into these situations in the first place. I know that sounds pretty judgemental, but there are people who actually live there lives carefully and in a manner that avoids any types of run ins with the police. All or most of the police brutality cases I am aware of involve "victims" who don't appear to be living their lives in this type of manner.
  23. I was completely shocked when I heard this earlier today. McGwire has pretty much gone in hiding since his retirement I assumed this was mostly from shame and not wanting to answer any more questions regarding steroids. I never thought he would even accept a coaching position. I'm wondering if he's been sitting and watching guys like ARod and Ramirez just keep playing the game and getting accepted by most of the fans (home town at least) and media as if nothing ever happened. I'm a bit bothered by how indifferent the media, fans, and MLB has become towards steroids and the players who have been caught using them.
  24. I'm assuming the pizzas were delivered in a reasonable time. If not, and the people did not tip because of this, I would hope that they would explain this to you. Also, does your place charge an extra delivery fee? If so, many people look at this, right or wrong, as being the tip.
  25. A lot of what I'm reading here is frustration with the teams that are in the playoffs, in particular, the Yankees. I understand this sentiment and I'm in complete agreement that baseball still has several issues when it comes to competitive balance. I would love to see a day when more teams have a legitimate chance of making the playoffs on a yearly basis. Until that happens, I still love watching baseball, even if that means watching teams that "purchased" their way into the playoffs. I have a love/hate relationship with the Yankees. First of all, they are not breaking any rules. The rules need to be fixed and it's hard to blame the Yankees for spending all the money that they can. It's a baseball issue, not a Yankee issue (although one could argue that its the Yankees and Steinbrenner that put baseball in this position, and it very well might be a valid arguement). It would probably be more criminal of the Yankees if they they didn't reinvest their "winnings" back in to the team every year. Also, keep in mind that the Yankees have won a majority of their 26 titles prior to free agency and payroll discrepancies among the teams. Salary Cap/Revenue sharing or no Salary Cap/Revenue sharing, the Yankees will always be the Yankees. I think baseball is a better sport for having antagonists like the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers. To me it would be like watching "24" without the bad guys. It would be kind of boring. Yes, I realize that the difference is that the good guy usually wins in "24", but I do find myself sometimes getting bored with football and all the "parity" it offers. Dynasties and knowing who to root against is not always a bad thing.
