  1. I've been researching fares for the last couple of weeks for our annual trip to Spring Training (usually book flight and lodging together on one of the travel sites). I saw all the news on SW Airlines and how much fare competition there will be. I don't see SW flights showing up in my searches. I then went to the SW web site. It appears that they will have 4 flights between Milwaukee and Phoenix, but as of right now only one is non-stop and the non-stop flight is not at very good times (I like to leave early in the morning and return late at night). I always do a non-stop to Phoenix because the fares are not really that much more than the flights with stops.
  2. To me, Dwight is to The Office what Frank Burns was to MASH, with Jim and Pam being "Hawkeye and Trapper" and constantly antagonizing him. I'll agree with logan. That is where some of the best humor on the show is for me. Take it a step further and Michael is kind of the "Colonel Blake" of the office. I never really cared for MASH once Frank left and Charles Winchester replaced him and Colonel Blake was much better than Colonel Potter.
  3. I had not noticed this before today, but Narveson's landing foot land's pretty far off to the 1st base side, which appears to cause him to throw across his body. I'm not sure I have ever seen any major league pitcher land this far off of center as I did with Narveson today. Not sure if he has always done this, but I wonder if any coach has ever tried to get him to correct it?
  4. I love "The Rookie". Great movie.
  5. Rented "Sugar" the other night. It was a good movie. Gives what probably is a pretty realistic picture of what many Latin ballplayers go through when they make it to the States. I also thought the movie did a good job of pointing out some of the cultural differences. Specifically, relations between males and females. As I said, it was a good movie. However, not really fair to compare to "Field of Dreams". Other than having baseball in common, they are two pretty different types of movies. I would say that, for me anyways, "Field of Dreams" is a movie that I'll stop and watch if it comes on while I'm flipping channels. Not sure that I would necessarily do the same with this movie.
  6. I'm so glad this is the last Brewer weekday day game on the schedule. The drive home is always brutal on these game days. If it was up to me the Brewers would either play not weekday day games or all those games would start at 3pm.
  7. Been kind of milling around this thread for the last several days. Really wanting to post, but kinda feeling like "what's the point". You either like this kind of stuff or you don't. I guess I'll give my two cents and state that I'm not a big fan of it. My 11 year old son loves it. For me, I agree with valpo in that I find myself somewhat wincing when I see my team do things like this. It's a bit uncomfortable for me. Braun's fist up in the air as he rounded 2nd base last year during the last game of the season was a picture of pure, sudden, joy and makes a great poster for my son to hang on his wall. Same could be said about Gibson's fist pump in game 1 of the 1988 WS. But in my mind, pre-planned celebrations such as this is no different than the football player who pulls the cell phone out of his sock after a touchdown (or pen and signs the football). It's the kind of showmanship that doesn't really add anything to the game for me. I would have been happier if they just greeted him at the plate with big smiles on their faces and high fives. No one says you can't have fun and play with joy. I love that. But, do you have to choreograph your celebration?
  8. Not to nitpick, but Halladay is a pitcher for the Blue Jays. Holliday is the hitter in the Card's lineup...or perhaps you just mistyped an "a" for an "o"
  9. Thanks Baldkin!
  10. Yes, I'm using "Add Reply". All the buttons are there, but when I click on most of them, they don't do anything. Up until about 4 or 5 months ago, I had no problem with these buttons. Since my spelling is horrible and I need to use Spellcheck (which still works for me), I almost always use "add reply" instead of "quick reply"
  11. Sorry, I already posted this in the the Brewerfan Isssues forum. But since it only got 27 views there, I thought I might get some help in this forum. Over the last 4 or 5 months (or perhaps coinciding with when I downloaded Windows explorer 8), many of the icons above don't work for me (i.e I can insert a picture, I can't use smilies, can't insert video). When I click on those icons nothing happens and I get the triangle exclamation mark on the bottom of the page with an "error on page" warning. I try using Firefox, but with that the icons don't show up at all for me. This happens on both my home and work computers. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  12. This is great! I was able to retrieve a site that no longer exists. (feverdreams.net - It's different views on the interpretations of Steely Dan songs, in case there are any SD fans out there)
  13. This is pretty cool. Although, I was hoping it would take Brewerfan back to when it was a brown colored web page and had absolutely no resemblance to how it looks today. Edit: Now that I think of it, I'm probably thinking of the fan forum that was on the old official Brewers web site. However, can't seem to access that forum through the wayback machine.
  14. For whatever reason, the only song that keeps going through my head with an opening piano solo is "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tell, but I know that's not it.
  15. Wow, Weathers was not very happy about being taken out there.

  17. Still playing minor league ball for Detroit: http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/S/Maxim-St.-Pierre.shtml
  18. Me either, ruins the ketchup. Or is it Catsup?
  19. I can't believe that after 19 years of varoius parole visits and cops being called to the house, it took the astute observations of a campus cop to bring this guy to justice. Here is a link to Garrido's blog. What a complete freak. Can anyone make any sense of it? http://www.scribd.com/doc/19151129/Garrido-Blog
  20. Oglivie, for whatever reason, I'm also captivated by this story. I was going to start a thread on it earlier today.
  21. A vent thread would help. Just sayin'. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I don't understand why the vent thread was banned. I think it normal and understandable to get upset with your team when they implode like this. Why is it so bad to have a thread to be able to blow off some of this steam?
  22. I have a feeling that the Little League umps are instructed to have a very big strike zones for these games. A mary-go-round ride around the basepaths makes for bad TV. I coach a U12 team in Waukesha that plays in the Wisconsin State League. For the most part the umpires are pretty reasonable in their play calling and strike zones, but they are not getting paid minimum. In a two umpire game each ump gets $45 ($60 for a one umpire game). Not bad for what usually ends up being 2 hours of work at the most. However, as mentioned by others in this thread, they do have to deal with the occasional unreasonable coach and/or parent.
  23. It's always like that in the LLWS. Every game. Every year.
  24. Does anyone know a good web site that would talk about the possible September callups for every MLB team? If not, is there a link somewhere on this site to all the MLB team fan sites? Thanks.
  25. Typical night of TV for me: 13 minutes of the Brewer Game, 9 minutes of Ice Road Truckers, 5 minutes of the Brewers game, 11 minutes of the LL World Series, 10 minutes of some show about immigration and homeland security, 8 minutes of the Brewer Game, 8 minutes of Storm Chasers, 12 minutes of Caddy Shack, 7 minutes of the News, etc, etc, etc This is why my wife never watches TV with me. I'm a flipper and I hate commercials. Most shows that I watch in entirety are shows I recorded on DVR (The Office, Jockeys, House)
