  1. So..they even hate the Yankees in Madagascar. Interesting. What? Antarctica and Greenland refused to participate in this poll?
  2. Anyone else trying to watch this in HD on time Warner in Milwaukee and having issues?
  3. Isn't that what a lot of sports discussion is about? Isn't that part of the fun of being a sports fan...trying to predict how different transactions, injuries, etc will effect your team? What the manager will do. What the lineups will be. Who will play where. There are several threads in this forum based on predictions (Brewre record in a certain month or for the year, playoff predictions). I don't see how predicting the ramifications of a trade is any different. You don't have to agree with any or all of the conclusions that people are making regarding the trade and you are always free to come up with your own conclusions, but I don't see any harm in trying to guess how the addition of a new player to the roster will affect playing time of current players.
  4. There...fixed your quote
  5. That article pretty much sums up how I feel about the trade. In particular these two lines: Haniger is the better prospect of the two, although he’s got a low ceiling and an unspectacular 2014 campaign under his belt. the Brewers paid relatively little for a guy who, several months ago, would've cost an upper-level prospect. It was a good time to strike. I still maintain that they paid relatively nothing for these two guys. Neither of the two guys they traded away are top 100 prospects and I doubt either of them would even crack the top 200 or 250. It's like getting a deal on prime rib for $5. The worse that can happen is that it tastes horrible and you are out $5..big deal. However, if it's a good cut a meat, you just got yourself a pretty good deal.
  6. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/07/tigers-to-acquire-david-price.html Funny story about this is that I guess there was a bases loaded, 2-2 count situation with the Tigers in the field and Austin Jackson got pulled from the field because of the trade.
  7. Tigers are reported to be the front runner at this point
  8. I like it. We gave up nothing. The #3 ranked (and probably not even that high any more) and #38 ranked prospects in a bad farm system. Neither of those guys may ever see the majors and my guess is that if they do that neither one of them will have a better career than Parra. Parra is a 2 time gold glover! Seems like a logical platoon situation in left now. Also good playoff teams have good bench depth. This is a HUGE upgrade over Schafer.
  9. Is this even really a good move for this year? Trading a key component in your lineup? Seems a bit like a wash competitively. I really respect Billy Bean as a GM. Even though he is yet to get to or win the World Series, what he does with that payroll is amazing. However, I'm scratching my head at this one.
  10. Passan tweets that Oakland is also sending a competitive balance draft pick to the A’s in the trade, and Boston is sending cash to Oakland. The A’s landed the second pick in Comp Round B in last week’s lottery. Didn't know you could trade draft picks in MLB??
  11. I once saw Bill Bordley scissor-kick Angela Lansbury.
  12. Ha. True! Admittedly...I had to Google Godwin's law.
  13. Very good point TooLiveBrew. I always tell myself that I'm not going to get pulled into these conversations when they come up on the board, but then I find myself getting into the debate. I agree that I don't think minds will be changed with these discussions. Seems like this subject matter usually ends up just creating tension between the brewerfan users. Barring any earth shattering breaking news, I'm going to do my best to just try to stay out of these discussions when they pop up (but no promises!).
  14. I don't see baseball perpetuating the myth that Braun took steroids. I see them penalizing him for breaking the rules agreed upon by both the players and the owners. The players take equal part in forming the rules established under the collective bargaining agreement. If the players believe that there are currently banned substances that should not be banned because they simply help the body heal (which I'm guessing is somewhat debatable) then they should negotiate that in the next CBA.
  15. I wouldn't have a problem with the HOF making references to the steroid era within the hall, but I don't see the point in honoring the players that took steroids during that era. Under your analogy, that would be the same as Germany not only acknowledging the Holocaust but honoring the Nazi's that took part in it.
  16. Rule #5 of the BBWAA HOF Election Rules: Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played. Now I'm guessing you don't agree with this rule (or the bolded parts of this rule). That's fine. That's your opinion. However, that does not change the fact that this rule is in place. I'm guessing you also believe that there are players currently in the HOF that don't meet these requirements (i.e. Ty Cobb). You may be correct. Those players may have "gotten away" with having less that average integrity or character. Sometimes people do get away with things that other people don't. Life isn't fair sometimes. However, if you engage in actions that you know may have consequences and you are not lucky enough to get away with it, then I have trouble feeling sorry for you when you get caught and have to deal with those consequences. The only time people point to that rule is when it is convenient. There are also enough guys left out just because of suspicion of using. I believe the whole era is tainted enough you can't believe anyone was clean. If there are guys left out just because there is a suspension they used even the guys voted in yesterday shouldn't have been in. This is one of the reasons I have a very hard time being a fan of someone who get's caught using PEDs. It casts doubt over everything and is a slap in the face to those players who play the game cleanly.

  18. That team was loaded with pitching. One of their pitching stars, Luke Sommerfeld, is the son of Kent Sommerfeld (executive producer for Brewer radio broadcasts). He's going to play college ball at St. Louis and their other big pitcher, Elijah Goodman, is going to UWM. It will be fun to follow their college careers.
  19. What Jim said. I have no issue with steroid users not being voted into the HOF.
  20. Seems like this system rewards teams for either "overachieving" compared to market size or "underachieving" compared to market size. One could argue that if you are in a small market but are still one of the top 10 teams in terms of revenue, then you don't need the competitive balance pick. One could also argue that if you are in one of the top 10 markets but also one of the bottom 10 in revenue, then you should not be rewarded for running your team in such a poor manner.
  21. Could be worse. Could be the Pirates, Rays, or Royals. They got nothing out of this.
  22. Karma, Shmarma. "Money don't get everything, it's true, but what it don't get, I can't use"
  23. Well, to be fair, the second guy that came offered to mop it up. However, I said no because he didn't have a mop or cleaning agents in his van. Basically he was saying if you have a mop and some soap, I'll clean this up for you. We have a cheap mop that we use on our kitchen floor that would not have done anything to get those stains out. I will probably clean out the garage this weekend and power wash the garage floor.
  24. Your last sentence pretty much sums up my thoughts. It's not so much being compensated for anything I'm out as I feel that it's just sensible business practice to offer something more than $20 for this situation. They are one of the larger garage door companies in the area. I don't think offering to cover the cost of labor for the job would have had a huge impact on their bottom line. In fact, as you stated, it would have made me more likely to continue to use them going forward....now I probably won't. In regards to it being my choice to take him to the hospital. It's kind of hard to say no when the guys got blood rushing down his arm and he says "I think you need to take me to the hospital". Seems like it would have been much more "jerkish" of me to say no and call an ambulance at that point than to take him to the hospital and then expect something more than a $20 discount.
