  1. I think it's funny how people choose to believe things on twitter, the internet, TV, or whatever media source based on their own personal feelings about this issue. They will believe one source because it's in alignment with what they think, but not another if it conflict with their beliefs. There are only a few facts I know for sure about this situation. Some of these facts are: A) Braun failed a drug test. B) Braun won his appeal of the failed drug test C) Braun held a press conference where he pretty much stated that he never took PEDs and that the person who handled his sample did not follow proper procedures D) Braun has agreed to a 65 game suspension (whether or not he was "railroaded" into agreeing to this suspension is pure speculation - even though some choose to present it as absolute fact)
  2. Most of the movies I quote from have already been listed..the classic quotable comedies..Anchorman, Caddyshack, etc. Others that I quote especially with my son (drives my wife crazy): Idiocracy..."What's the minus of 30 and 20", "I thought there were 2 of you" Breakfast Club..."P,B, and J with the crust cut off", "I am the eyes and ears of this institution my friends" Back to the Future.."Marty!", "I am your density" Stripes.."The name is Francis Sawyer....", "Have that removed", "It's a little Cute" (there are a ton of lines in this one that I quote from time to time) Ferris Bueller's day off...."They think he's a righteous dude" and of course "Bueller....Bueller" So I married an Axe Murderer (mainly the scottish father)..."Head! Move!", "Oh how I hated the Colonel with his weee beety little eyes" Of course if you add TV, Seinfeld by far is my most quoted of anything. Also, there is an odd web video that someone posted on this site a few years ago called "This is my Milwaukee". Now that my son is in high school and I know he has the same type of humor that I do, I showed it to him a couple of weeks ago. He's constantly quoting that now. Also quote Brian Regan a ton!
  3. Is this in a bad part of town or something? I'm just wondering why that would cause "trouble." I generally make a special effort to honk at pedestrians when they're jaywalking. It has not happened to me a lot, maybe 2 or 3 times in my life and not always in "the same part of town". If it ever happened to you, you would understand what I mean and realize that your best course of action is just to try to be patient. I actually saw it happen downtown (Milwaukee) about a year or two ago. A group of kids (middle school? High School) was crossing at Kilbourn and Prospect (heading west on Kilbourn) and they were taking their sweet time. Light turned and they were still in the crosswalk not hurrying at all. A car honked at them and they (the kids) started yelling at them and one of them slammed his hand on the hood of the car. It didn't escalate any farther than that. I believe they were students from St. Johns Cathedral. They had made a trip to the park and were heading back to school.
  4. As a parallel, I frequently think that businesses and marketing departments are continually making an effort to purposely annoy their customers by selling lousy products, putting the lousy products in packaging that's impossible to open, sticking stuff on the products that's impossible to remove, rearranging stores, etc. After thinking all those accusatory thoughts, I ultimately chalk this stuff up to people simply being stupid. Chances are that these pedestrians are simply stupid or oblivious too. Oh..the pedestrians are stupid and oblivious alright...but at the same time, if you were to honk your horn or express your frustration with them in anyways, you would have trouble on your hands. This is why when people say "I'll raise my kids how I want to raise them and it's nobody's else's business"...well, it is, because the rest of us have to live with the kids you raise when they grow up.
  5. This is what I don't get. If Braun has been on something since he was in college, shouldn't he have failed a test before 2011? If he did only use in 2011, then it really didn't make that big a difference and he should still be an elite player. The flaw with this line of thinking is the belief that you can't pass a drug test if you are on PEDs.
  6. Because in the middle of those 8 starts he came up to MLB and put up a solid 10.93 ERA, and couldn't strike anyone out? (2.5 K/9 isn't going to cut it). His last 4 starts, he's only gone 6 innings per start, and he's only striking out 6 guys per 9 innings, while walking almost the same amount, and he's had a horrible 1.06 K/BB ratio. So....and this harmed the Brewer how? They are out of it! Perfect time to give him starts at the big league level. I'd rather have him have rough outings now when wins/losses are not crucial to the Brewers. While Gorzelanny has done well, I sure hope the Brewers are not counting on him to be a big factor in the starting rotation for years to come. Now is the time to start looking at a possible piece of the future. He should have never been sent back down in the first place. Let him get some experience under his belt! Also, the stats you quoted are for just a little over 10 IP. Talk about small sample size! Really? Is this the timeline we are going to give our minor leaguers to prove themselves.."We will give you 10 IP to prove yourself and strike out 5 or more batters or back to the minors with you!! We can't afford to have pitchers losing games just to get experience when we are only 15 games out of the playoffs!! "
  7. Can someone please explain to me why he is still sitting in the minors. Given the Brewers current situation, what is there to lose by getting him some MLB experience?! Saw this stat line in an email I got from the Brewers: • In his last 8 starts for AAA Nashville, Johnny Hellweg has allowed just 3 ERs in 51 innings (0.53 ERA) and he’s allowed just 1 ER over his last 42 innings at AAA (0.21 ERA). What more does he need to do at AAA? Bring him up!!
  8. Ooohh...that sounds painful. You mean like a burning sensation? I think that would be related to something other than PEDs.
  9. Hunter Mayhan drops out of the Canadian open after the 2nd round with the lead when his wife goes into labor. Clearly the right decision, but wow, 1st place was $1M. No guarantee that he would have won the tourney, but talk about your "million dollar baby"!
  10. Yeah, I have had this happen to me on a few occasions, usually involving pedestrians and not bikes, but usually involving a group of younger people (4,5, or more). It's pretty much evident that they are doing it purposely. They cross slowly, deliberately, and will even stop in the middle of the street and talk or shout back at someone on the sidewalk as you sit there waiting with a green light. They know that you as a single drive are not going to honk or ask for any type of trouble or risk any type of confrontation against their entire group. Very, very frustrating.
  11. Hmm..perhaps that's why they ran this article in this week's Onion: http://www.theonion.com/articles/print-dead-at-1803,33244/
  12. Jim, are you a full season ticket holder? I'm a 20 game season ticket holder. Have not seen this offer (although..not sure I would do it anyways.) Completed the season ticket survey the other day. One thing I noted and another that I forgot to mention: 1) Bring back the playing catch on the field thing for all season ticket holders (including partial season tickets)!! 2) Find a way to acknowledge long term season ticket holders. Maybe some sort of anniversary gift on the 10th, 15th, 20th, etc years. Maybe an extra discount on those years. Something! I renewed my tickets after a lot of crappy Brewer seasons, including the strike year of 1994.
  13. For me personally it's John Axford. I have always liked his personality and have always rooted for him. It was hard to watch when he was struggling. I know he had to be very concerned at one point about his future and his career. It reminded me of a golfer or an NFL kicker who all of a sudden just loses it (See McIlroy or Crosby). It's has been great to see him get his game back on track and I really hope the Brewers hold on to him.
  14. There, I corrected your statement.
  15. I would somewhat disagree. If this was his first venture into PED's then I think it is shocking and I have to ask "Why Ryan??..why??" As you stated, perhaps he was just "switching suppliers", but if not, c'mon!! I know it was the playoff run. I get that. I don't care though. The risk was never worth the reward. You're career, reputation, and every thing that goes with that down the drain. Ughh.. I just want to hear that he was using since his Miami days and that it had become "a way of life for him". I could somewhat understand that. Taking it for the first time once you have made it and have recently signed a 10 guaranteed contract just does not make sense to me though.
  16. I think it's logical to believe that Braun was a LT PED user. I've heard several statements from people (not necessarily on this site) saying something along the lines of "with so much money at stake I can understand why players take PEDs). Well, if you think about it, Braun had just completed the 2nd year of a 10 year guaranteed contract when he tested positive. If money were the driving force for taking PEDs, it does not seem logical that Braun would be taking PEDs at this point in his career since he was going to get paid handsomely regardless of how he performed for the next 8 years. Now some will say that he took PEDs because, regardless of his contract situation, he wanted to do whatever it took to help the team win. Possibly, but to jeopardize your reputation, your career, and Hall of Fame chances to do this does not make sense to me. What seems more plausible to me is that he had been a LT PED user and that it just became second nature to him. It seems more likely that he was concerned about the performance and health effects of discontinuing the use of PEDs.
  17. Clearly, no team is going to touch Braun right now in regards to trying to trade for him. No team would want to deal with the probable backlash from their players and their fan base. The only way I see Braun being traded at some point in the future is if he comes back, plays well, and some team in contention is in need of a bat at the trade deadline some season (but probably not next season).
  18. No, not a positive angle. You can blame ESPN. You can blame whoever "leaked" the information. However, ultimately, Braun is to blame! He broke the rules! None of this is a story at all if he just plays by the rules! Again..zero sympathy for him in my mind. Is he human? Yes. Did he make a mistake? Yes. But humans should know the consequences of mistakes. By the way mistake is somewhat of a kind term. Makes it sound like..."oops, I took some PED's". He made a conscientious decision to take PEDs..and I'm guessing he did this over several years. Also, it's one thing to cheat and deny. It's another to cheat, get caught, and continue to deny. Andy Pettitte did not do that.
  19. The record books have been rewritten! http://www.theonion.com/articles/turns-out-craig-counsell-was-actually-best-basebal,6581/
  20. People are saying that we should allow Braun to be human and capable of making mistakes. I would have been perfectly willing to do this, had he come clean when he failed his drug test, or, at the very least, not made the statements he made at his press conference. Gallardo made a bad mistake. Outside of the world of baseball, a worse crime than that committed by Braun. However, he took his punishment and immediately owned his mistake. Stop acting like Braun is the victim here. The victims are all the players who have been playing the game by the rules.
  21. Absolutely, I am far more angered with K-Rod's actions so to speak than what Braun ever did. Opposite of Patrick425, to me it is more about the crime than the lies as K-Rod's alleged crimes are way worse than Braun's crimes, if there even was a crime at all. Key word being "alleged". Whether or not you want to believe Krod was guilty the case was dismissed: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/11/29/francisco-rodriguez-has-domestic-violence-charges-dismissed/ And again, I don't remember Krod holding a press conference professing his complete innocence and throwing his girl friend and/or the D.A. under the bus.
  22. No. He's supposed to act a bit more humble when he get's off on a technicality (and let's be realistic..it was a technicality). He's not supposed to throw it back in the faces of MLB and the sample handler at a press conference. Let's not forget that the only person responsible for all the bad press that Braun is now getting is Braun himself. He broke the rules and then, instead of thanking his lucky stars when he wins his appeal, he acts completely indignant. I have no pity or sympathy for him whatsoever. For everyone who still believes he is being unjustly vilified, please watch this again (and yes, I was wrong, it was more like 5-10 minutes and not 15-20 minutes): http://youtu.be/y4yKCVrfzaU
  23. Not sure how many times this needs to be said, but for many of us it's not so much about the crime as it is about his bold face 20-30 minute press conference lie fest. It wasn't just "I appealed. My sample was handled incorrectly and I won my case", it was lie after lie and then throwing people under the bus. I don't remember any 20-30 minute press conferences from Gallardo or Krod where they insisted that they were the only ones telling the truth and everyone else was lying.
  24. I just don't buy why he's being vilified. He beat the rap and then has basically said nothing since then. Would you admit to cheating if it meant your integrity, after you've already successfully appealed the suspension in question? Of course not. Do people screw up at work once in a while, and not say anything in hopes of not being caught? A) If he knew he was guilty, he should have never appealed in the first place B) I think you should find and watch his press conference again after he "beat the rap". I wouldn't say he said nothing. C) So, this is the excuse that everyone can use now? "Well other people lie and cheat so....." Look, Braun cheated by the letter of the rule. However, I find synthetic testerone to be a pretty weak case against him. He didn't take steroids, or HGH, or anything to make him bigger, faster, or stronger. The first sentence is all that needs to be said. Just because you don't agree with the rules that are in place or believe that they are too strict does not mean that you can break them without consequences and I think the rules and consequences are pretty well spelled out for all MLB players. If I was a clean player I would be very upset with Braun and very happy that some justice is finally being served.
  25. Ok..so are you saying teams should investigate players prior to drafting or prior to signing? Once you draft a high pick you know you are going to have to pay him a "high pick amount" in order to sign him, otherwise you are just wasting a draft pick. So, it seems like the investigation, according to this logic, should happen before the pick is even made. So, basically all the high draft picks would have several investigators from several teams following them around and spying on them. Doesn't seem very realistic to me. Checking a person's background, social media, etc for any known ethical or legal issues is one thing. Hiring a P.I. to spy on a possible draft pick is another.
