  1. Nice timing for the Brewers!
  2. 4 of those 9 have been homers. The walks are obviously completely absent, but 27 out of 38 is a tremendous 3TO percentage. Hmmm...as I look at his stats (on CBS sportsline), I see he has 9 hits (not 9 "balls in play") and 5 of those hits have been HRs. Still incredible.
  3. Still looking at alternatives to Netflix and came across something called VUDU. Anyone ever use this? Seems like there are more first run movies available on this site for online streaming and the site states $2 per movie (no monthly fees).
  4. Bizarre weather today....seems like a complete blizzard then 10 minutes later the sun is out and it's not snowing.
  5. The previous post...why would you do that? Kind of an old gag...don't you think?
  6. I found the interview with Attanasio in the Milwaukee Business Journal. Here is the excerpt in regards to the TV contract: Q: Sportsbusiness Journal, a sister publication of The Business Journal, said the Brewer TV rights fee went up to $20 million from $12 million. I assume that's a positive development. Attanasio: We renegotiated that contract in 2008, coming off our highest (TV) ratings season ever and a playoff appearance. There was a fiscal crisis going on at the time, so we thought it would be good to lock in our TV contract at that time similar to Tampa's. (The Tampa Bay Rays also get $20 million) At that point, they were the 14th-largest TV market and we were the 39th. We took some risk out. Now with where rights have gone, we may have left a little money on the table.
  7. I have the live feed on from one of the Boston news channels as I'm working. The whole scene in Boston today reminds me of something out of an episode of "24".
  8. I saw or read an interview with Attanasio recently (maybe it was the Business Journal?) where he admitted that he may have left some money on the table when they negotiated the latest deal.
  9. Would like to see what Burgos can do. Thought he looked good in the WBC. Hey Louis..check your messages. Sent you PM about the tix you are selling for Saturday's game.
  10. 10 or 20 runs is a little different than 65 runs. Like I said in a previous post, I coached youth baseball for the last 10 years (my son is now a Freshman in HS), once a team got up by 10 or more runs it was always station to station after that..no stealing, no advancing on a wild pitch. It wasn't a rule, it was just common sense. It's clear we are not going to agree on this. However, having said all this, even if the winning team was trying their hardest and had all their starters in there the whole game, I still can't fathom how you can score 65 runs. It wasn't like the pitchers were incapable of throwing a strike. There were 48 hits. Even the MLB players in the HR derby hit weak grounders, pop ups, and routine fly balls with pitches being thrown in their wheel house. No matter how bad you are, as I HS baseball player I would hope you would at least have the ability to catch a fly ball or pop up.
  11. Why? I'm not saying it "helps" anyone, but but continuing to pile on hit after hit and run after run does not help anyone either. Like I said, at the very least you are allowing your pitchers a chance to throw and their hitters a chance to get some ABs. There is way too much macho bs in the whole "well I'm not going to have my guys purposely make outs" crap. Use some common sense. If either side was actually having fun during that debacle they need to have their heads examined.
  12. I believe the rule is actually that you have to be going towards the base. Prince was going back towards 2nd when the throw was made. My guess is that is the explanation that the HP umpire gave to Roenicke
  13. Sorry, have to disagree with you MJ. Even if you assume that all 11 guys that got hit scored and you take those runs away, it's still 54-0. This isn't some beer league softball game being played by grown men. This was a HS game. It couldn't have been that adventurous at the plate if they were willing to square around and bunt. My guess is that the losing team pitchers were not really throwing that hard and that none of the 11 HBP caused any serious harm. Why do you think there is a mercy rule after 5 innings? Because it's pointless to continue the contest after that point when there is a 10 run difference. It serves no purpose. I don't know how any reasonable person could think that a game that is 25-0, 30-0, 35-0 after a couple of innings is worth continuing. Maybe it does not do any "long lasting harm", but no one really wants to continue playing the game at that point. I won't argue against the thought that perhaps the losing coach was more to blame than the winning coach. He clearly should have just forfeited by at least the 25-0 mark. Perhaps he could have talked the other coach into letting his team take some "batting practice" off of their pitchers for a half hour or so. I coached youth baseball games for the last 10 years. I have been involved in games where there has been a 20 run difference one way or other. I remember one particular instance where we were about to bat around for the 3rd time in an inning and even the young boys on the team I was coaching had enough sense to just go up and swing at anything (and even miss on purpose) without being told to do so. Yes there were 11 hit batters, but keep in mind there were also 48 hits. I don't see how any team in that situation could continue to go up to the plate and try to time pitches. If for no other reason, make outs on purpose to give your pitchers some work and to let the other team have some ABs.
  14. Anyone see this? 65-0 High School baseball game While there is no defending a 65-0 final score, it appears that Boyer tried – or offered to try -- just about every alternative at his disposal to minimize the damage. At one point Boyer claims he went to the game’s home plate umpire and offered to have his players bunt and then step on the plate to guarantee an out. While the umpire's response to this is a joke, how about just purposely swinging and missing at everything? It really is not that hard to purposely make outs, even if the opposing pitchers have no control. If you swing and get hit by a pitch it's still a strike. If the winning team is incapable of doing this then the losing team's coach should have forfeited long before it got anywhere near 65-0. I would have been audibly upset if I was a parent in the stands (regardless of what team my son played for).
  15. I have read a lot of postings along the lines of "Just because you drive drunk it does not mean you are a bad person". Maybe not, but then my question is, what does make a "bad person"? What is the definition of a "bad person"? Is it actions or is it intentions? If I drive drunk on a a regular basis without the intent of hurting anyone that does mean I'm not a bad person? If I rob the neighborhood convenience store without any intention of causing physical, emotional, or financial harm to anyone does that mean I'm not a bad person? Is there a magical number of acts or "bad intentions" that I need to exercise before I'm considered a bad person? It just seems to be a common phrase.."Well he's really not a bad person, but....." Adults use this phrase a lot when discussing troubled kids: "He really is a good kid, he just....." Other than notable figures such as Hitler, Bin Laden, etc, it seems that most people want to be believe that no one is really a bad person. Sorry, I know this is way off topic from discussing Gallardo and his recent issue.
  16. Well, unless you have to sit near them at a sporting event (or any other event that serves alcohol). Unless you are sitting in the family section (which many stadiums/arenas do not have and the ones that have them only have 2 or 3 areas) it's basically a gamble taking your family to a game and risking sitting next to someone or a group of people who feel the need to get overly drunk and obnoxious.
  17. What kills me about bars now compared to 20-25 years ago is how strong they make drinks. On the rare occasions when I get out to a bar these days, I'm always shocked at my first sip (brandy and coke) and when I watch them make the drink. They are usually at least 50/50 or even 60% alcohol (for drinks with a mix of soda and alcohol), and it seems like if you tell them not to make it so strong it goes in one ear and out the other. What happened to a mixed drink containing a shot of alcohol?
  18. My guess is you could look at a majority of other teams and come up with similar scenarios.
  19. You do know that you are replying to a post from over a year ago...right? Anyways, if you are looking to become a better golfer...maybe you could try this: http://thedanplan.com/
  20. That's an awsome GIF. From the pitchers reaction to the runner just diving into first.
  21. I can't imagine the thought process of someone who does something like this: goat's head delivered to Wrigley
  22. Yeah, luckily for my son, his school plays Summer HS baseball. However, he's also on the golf team. They have not played any matches yet and have had very limited practice opportunities. Tonight they are just going to go over rules in one of the class rooms. He's also playing spring baseball with Racine Hitters. They managed to get in one game this last Saturday, but everything other weekend has been indoors.
