  1. Well said and pretty much how I feel as well. I really hate this assumption that EVERYONE is doing it and on top of that this general acceptance of unethical behavior because other people are unethical also. So, basically what is being said is that no one has the ability to think and act on their own and that everyone is just a victim of widespread moral decay.
  2. People are outraged over somebody (potentially) lying a press conference? Must lead to a lot of frustration on a near daily basis. No, but it's certainly not going to help my opinion of someone who does this. For the people who say "don't idolize", but then say they still love and will cheer for Braun...who's doing the idolizing?
  3. This post has kind of been forgotten about. Are you joking or do you have a link of some sort?
  4. How many people get paid millions a year because of benefits of speeding, cheating on spouses, or drunk driving and then lie to the people who basically pay their salaries about our actions? Well, anyone with a high priced job, i.e. doctors, lawyers, CEO all are paid with assumptions about a particular kind of behavior and decorum requisite to the profession. Plenty of these people are doing underhanded, illegal things in their professions on top of it. Ok?...and plenty of them are not. If the one's doing "underhanded" things get caught and continue to deny, then yes, I have the same disdain for them, as I assume others would as well.
  5. No..he should not of appealed in the first place. Cliche..but don't do the crime if you can't do the time. See Andy Pettite. Even Braun said at one point in his career that players that get caught should just come clean.

  7. This is nearly exactly how I feel. My first thought was how much salary this clears up for draft picks and/or international signings. Same. See post 742. Most of the "outrage" is not because people are "surprised" that he took PEDs.
  8. Maybe it's a generational thing (I'm 47), maybe it's just being brought up differently, I don't know. However, I'll never understand this mindset of "They should just allow PEDs in sports..who cares?". What about just continuing to work hard and seeing where your abilities take you and taking some pride from that? I'm tired of this attitude that if you are not "gaming the system" you must be a sucker. For those of you who just want them to legalize PEDs in sports, do you mean unlimited use of any steroid or HGH or anything? Is that really what you want to see? You would find that entertaining to watch? Seems like a bad action film or turbo charged video game to me and I would have absolutely no interest in watching it.
  9. While I fully support MLB's effort to rid the sport of PEDs and I would never be in support of the thought that they should just allow PEDs in the game, my biggest disappointment from all of this is the lies that Braun continued to tell with a straight face. Especially after he was quoted as saying at one point a few years back that players that are caught should just come out and admit their wrong doings. Of course, I am sure there are those who believe he is still innocent and he was basically forced into admitting his guilt with a "gun to his head".
  10. This has already been covered in post #548
  11. What now qualifies as "Breaking News" is bugging me. I watch channel 4 news everyday before I leave for work. I would say that on most days they state that they are following "breaking news". However, most of the time it's something like a house fire in Elkhorn or something like that. That's not "breaking news". A 3 alarm fire in downtown Milwaukee that effects several buildings or a high rise is breaking news. A house fire in Elkhorn is not. I subscribe to CNN breaking new reports. When there is a plane crash or tsunami or something along those lines I find it informative. However, over the last days they have been sending emails every time someone in the Jury of the George Zimmerman trial has a bowel movement. Until they actually come to a verdict, I could care less about when they eat lunch, take a break, or what the mothers of Zimmerman or Martin have to say (which have also been topics of their "breaking news" emails).
  12. Thanks for all the suggestions! Last night went out and had a vodka and lemonade at dinner. Then I had a few vodka and redbulls while playing darts. As Blancofan stated, I realize that Redbull is worse than soda as far as health goes. However, when it come to avoiding soda in this situation it's not as much about health as not wanting to fall "off the wagon" (or is it on the wagon...did Seinfeld ever figure that out?) If I mix something with soda then I'll start rationalizing by saying what's the difference if I have a alcohol mixed with soda once in a while or just pure soda. Also, blancofan, to answer your question about fruity drinks...Yes, as stupid as it sounds, it's somewhat of a "manly" image thing. Reminds of the scene from "The Departed" when Leonardo Dicaprio orders Cranberry Juice. Don't want to risk getting censored so I won't state what the guy next to him says.
  13. The Players Association signed off on the deal. If there is evidence that you purchased banned substances, or distributed banned substances, or were in possession of banned substances, that's in violation and you're subject to penalty. OK....evidence. Is there evidence, outside of Bosch, to prove that Braun did anything? Right now, all we know is his name was on a list. And the word of Bosch is either for or against him. But, that's it. In a court of law, you have to have something more than circumstantial evidence. I realize, it's not the court of law, and the PA signed off on the deal. But, two and two don't add up here. Correct...that's all WE know. However, WE may not know everything. MLB may have mountains of irrefutable evidence for all WE know. We may never know until someone writes a tell all book some day.
  14. So, I have not had a Mt. Dew or any soda since the Tuesday after Memorial Day (May 28). Longest stretch since I was probably a child. I've been searching healthier substitutes. I'm liking Sparkling Ice flavored water. I know someone is going to say that the artificial sweetener is unhealthy. I think that's debatable and I would still argue that it's a healthier alternative to Soda. The issue that I'm having is when it comes to adult beverages. I'm not a beer drinker and my beverage of choice has always been brandy and coke. Completely out of principal I don't want to have soda at all, not even in a mixed drink. On the occasions that I have had a drink at home I have had vodka and lemonade or even vodka and Gatorade (again, I realize lemonade or Gatorade is probably not any healthier than soda..but I don't want to drink soda). The issue is when we go out. We went to a festival a couple of weeks ago and I had a couple of beers, but again, beer is really not my thing. So, we may be going out to a bar this weekend. Can someone give me some suggestion of mixed drinks that A) do not contain soda B) do not appear to look to fruity (i.e. red in color) and C) I can easily order at most bars (many bars don't have lemonade to mix with drinks).
  15. [sarcasm]Yes, I can see how Davey would be completely offended if I said me and Davey instead of Davey and me. That would be pretty rude of me.[/sarcasm]
  16. Impolite?? Really? I'm not sure I want to meet the person who would be personally offended by someone's incorrect use of "I" or "me".
  17. That would have required Braun's legal team to make the horrendous error of informing the third-party about all the details of the suspension, why would they have done that? If you are doing research on PEDs you don't say "Hey, I'm representing Ryan J. Braun who just got suspended for 50-games for a PED test, can I ask you some questions?" Well, many law firms have several employees. I'm sure there are members of the administrative staff that do "grunt" work on cases. Perhaps some clerk from the law firm is at a bar, has a few too many, and starts talking to his friends..."You wouldn't believe the project I was working on today....." I'm not saying this happened, but it's not far fetched for the leak to have come from Braun's side. People act like only Braun, his attorney, Bud Selig, and a person at the test lab knew about it. There are probably dozens of people on each side that were involved. Several people at the lab, several people in the MLB offices (including MLB attorneys), several people on Brauns side (his attorneys and staff, possibly his agent?, possibly his girlfriend?, parents?), at least 2 or 3 people at the lab that conducted the test. Also, it's not like I'm some huge fan of ESPN (although, I guess I don't have the animosity towards them that others seem to), but do you think any other news agency would have sat on this news if they had received it? I doubt it.
  18. According to T.J. Quinn at ESPN, who seems to know what he is talking about in regards to MLB rules regarding the arbitration process, once a case because public, as this one has, they can announce suspensions publicly without having to wait until the appeal process has taken place (this does not mean that players are not allowed to appeal). Play video: http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/9464246/ryan-braun-refused-answer-mlb-questions-biogenesis-clinic-sources-say Which essentially makes ESPN one step away from the National Enquirer. If Braun once again gets suspended and once again wins the appeal process, he and his lawyers should sue ESPN for $50 million for defamation of character and lost wages from endorsement deals. This whole fiasco could cost Braun a chance at the Hall of Fame due to irresponsible tabloid style "reporting" and an overzealous commissioner who is trying to make up for his own horribly tarnished legacy. To be fair, wasn't it the New Miami Times (or whatever it's called) that broke this latest story about Bosch and his connection to several MLB players? Braun's reaction was that his lawyers contacted Bosch as a possible consultant during the appeals process. Well, if Brauns positive test had never been leaked by ESPN, then Braun could have never made that statement. Also, not sure how what I posted about TJ Quinn stating seemingly factual information about how the MLB appeal process works makes ESPN one step away from the National Enquirer?

  20. What bugs me is when I read something like this and I have no idea what the grammatical error is. Is supposed to be "Me and Dave"? "Dave and Me"? Why? Because a long, long time ago someone said that is the proper way to speak? I think some people are just naturally stronger in grammar than others. Same with math. I'm more of a math guy. It's more black and white. 2+2 = 4, there are really no exceptions to that. There are no rules that I have to remember such as i after e except after c or in word that have an "a" sound or an "ee" sound, etc, etc. Who made up these rules? They seem arbitrary to me. There is no logic to them.
  21. Very well put Jim and I agree 100%.
  22. Wow..there sure is alot of unabashed defending of Braun and bashing of Selig on this page. Perhaps you guys are correct. Perhaps it's a big which hunt with no credible evidence to warrant a suspension. However, perhaps you don't know what you don't know. Perhaps MLB has a mountain of very credible evidence against Braun and others (text messages, receipts, emails, etc). I do know that on at least two occasions Braun has stated that he wants to fully cooperate with MLB. Well, if the recent report by MLB is true, he doesn't seem to be doing that. Maybe Braun is innocent, maybe he's guilty. I don't know for certain, because I don't have all of the information and neither does anyone else posting in this thread. I guess, if I was forced to place a bet on it, I would have to bet on guilty, but I would not feel 100% certain that I would win that bet.
  23. People who confuse the last name of the Bucks' GM with the last name of an overpaid outfielder who played for the Brewers from 2001-2003 Though I can understand the confusion as both perform(ed) poorly for Milwaukee sports franchises. Sometimes I get both of them confused with Reggie Hammonds..."Karate man bleed on the inside!"
