  1. Our league uses the message board a lot and the new one is terrible. Of the many problems, one of the major ones is that if someone sends you a private message and you reply via email (most of us have it set up so that anything posted to the message board goes to our email), it gets posted to the entire league. A couple of owners found that out the hard way as they were talking trades with each other.
  2. Not sure if anyone else is using CBS Sports for the baseball commissioner product. If so, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the recent "upgrade" to the league home pages? We have been using CBS for about 13 years now. For the most part they are pretty good at taking feedback from users and making improvements on a yearly basis based on that feedback. However, yesterday, they rolled out completely new look to the league pages and it leaves some things to be desired, especially when it comes to the new "message board" that they have integrated into the site. I think it was all well-intended, but the feedback in our league thus far has been largely negative.
  3. Based on what? I'll never understand the venom towards owners by some. They are supposed to make a profit, they are running a business. In my opinion, the owners should should get 60-65% of the revenue after expenses (not including payroll) and the players get the rest. The owners are the ones taking the financial risk. If the players don't like it they should start their own league and run their own teams.
  4. Although I have not gone to opening day in years, so I'm not sure how crazy the entrances get, I do have one thought for you (I have done this for other sell out games during the season). If you take Bluemound, or better yet, North Avenue to 41 (Miller Park Way), then go past 94 and take that entrance off of Miller parkway going south, you may avoid the backups to Miller Parkway that sometimes occur on 94 east bound. Also, note that most people who enter the stadium off of Miller Park Way going south believe that you have to be in the far right lane when actually you can access the stadium exit using both lanes (You actually don't want to be in the far right lane if you are going to preferred). So, sometimes you can fly by many of the cars that are at a standstill in the far right lane.
  5. While you may be reluctant, I'm sure you understand that it's illegal to not hire someone because they are pregnant. I completely understand where you are coming from, but I would be careful if I was you.
  6. I know they change some of the normal rules on Opening Day, but we have been able to get into preferred parking from the I94 left side exit (going eastbound on I94) for all other games. Regardless, I'm pretty sure if you have a preferred pass, no matter what exit you get off at, if you show your pass they will get you directed towards preferred parking.
  7. I saw the quote on Mlbtr.com that states they feel they have the ability to resign Hart. I may have overlooked it, but I didn't see any quote from Mark or Doug that stated "they have the money to make another substantial move if necessary" edit: Oh..ok, Now I see...but owner Mark Attanasio says that it will not prevent the club from "being able to make another move," reports Rosenthal. In particular, Attanasio expects to be in a position to re-sign first-baseman Corey Hart, Although it doesn't say "substantial" and this sounds like resigning Hart would be considered "another move"
  8. Good to hear that at least someone at the company acknowledges that their response was not acceptable and/or appropriate. While I'm really hating this cold spring, I'm very glad to hear that it may have prevented a disaster from occurring at your residence!
  9. I could be wrong, but I believe, before games, they close off that road from the VA hospital that feeds onto Mitchell Blvd (if that is what you are referring to).
  10. Wow, that crazy Blancofan. Do you live in Wisconsin (was it WE energies?)? Also, you have to pay for 911 calls?
  11. Don't know about buying from scalpers in the parking lot, but just be aware that sometimes you can not get into the parking lot on opening day (with a car) if you do not have game tickets. Not sure if they do this every year, but I know that have done it at times in the past.
  12. Anyone know what his pay will be?
  13. So, someone please explain. If you are on the 40 man roster does that mean you have a MLB contract? The roster is only at 25 April-August. So couldn't you have a MLB contract and still be in the minors (if you are on the 40 man roster)?
  14. That's 14 seconds too long. I don't need to be "interrogated" on my way out of a store. Ok..well then, that's item C) on my list of reasons I don't go to Sam's Club.
  15. Wow, that would infuriate me. I would definitely be contacting the Brewers if that happened and asking for a refund. How hard is it to A) Know how many spots are avaialable and B) Don't sell any more tickets that spots that are available - taking the pre-sold spots into account??
  16. Not to make you feel worse, but if you got through Monday and don't have tickets yet, I think it's certainly time to contact your rep, at least for reassurance. Got them yesterday so we are good!
  17. Weather.gov is ok, but no 10 or 25 day forecasts like on weather.com or accuweather. Yes, I know, the reliability of those long term forecasts are not very good at all, but I still like to see them. I also know that weather.gov has long range forecast maps, but I have always found those to be very unreliable as well. Generally if they are calling for cooler and drier weather for the next month, I can count on warmer and wetter. You would think with all the advances in weather forecasting and the dozens of different models they use, that they would have gotten better at forecasting beyond 7 days by now. I also like the radar on weatherunderground better than any other weather site.
  18. Why do some people assume everyone has a Sam's club membership? When ever I mention that I'm going to purchase something, someone always seems to come up with "You should go to Sam's club, that's on sale there". A) I don't have a Sam's club membership because I don't need to purchase, nor to I have room to store, 24 rolls of toilet paper. B) Sentry is a mile away. Sam's club is 5+ miles away. I'm all about convenience. edit: On top of this, I hear stories about lines being very long to check out and being treated like you are going through customs when you exit the store. If any of that is true, I have absolutely zero patience for that.
  19. I, by nature, am by no means a glass is half full type guy, but wow, visiting Brewerfan lately is very depressing. Oh no, they signed Lohse! Oh no, AGon is going to be play first! Oh No, the between inning entertainment at Miller Park is going to be irritating!, Oh no, MLB is targeting Braun! Hey, let's find a "whipping boy" since we already know this season is going to be a disaster! Some of you need to come down off the ledge already. Next week is opening day. Whether your the Astros or the Angels, or any team in between, it's supposed to be a time of optimism. Every team is tied for 1st. Sports can be very unpredictable and that's what makes it fun. 15 seeds can make it to the sweet 16. I for one am looking forward to the beginning of the season and meaningful games being played starting next Monday.
  20. He is? The guy was originally asking for $15 million a year. He is coming off the best year of his career, finished 7th in the Cy Young award voting, and is taking a pay cut.
  21. Well, these days that's worth $11mil per year..right? Heck, if you have a pulse and all four of your limbs are attached you automatically get $3 million a year.
  22. While I expected many to not like this signing, I never expected the hate that some are displaying to be so excessive. Like others have said, even in a worst case scenario, this is by no means a disaster. If you want to see the definition of disaster, look up Jeffery Hammonds. Signed for $8million a year at a time when the Brewers payroll hovered somewhere in the low $40 million range (so about 20% of total payroll!) and they didn't have 1/4 the talent on the team that they do now (basically zero chance of making the playoffs with or without him). If you remember Hammonds had a career of injuries with almost no seasons of over 400 abs when the Brewers signed him. This did not change after he signed with the Brewers. The Lohse signing pales in comparison to this and is not a disaster. edit: by the way...there was a lot more excitement surrounding the Hammonds signing at the time than there is for Lohse.
  23. Ok, but what I mean is does the money have to be used on the draft..period. If you don't sign any early round draft picks can you use the money in the FA market in the off season, or to offer and extension to a current player, or pay off debt, or pocket it, etc?
  24. Maybe he couldn't have been had for $11mil/yr 3 weeks ago. He was initially looking for $15mil/yr.
  25. Essentially each draft pick has a corresponding dollar amount. The better the pick the higher amount. Add up the total of each team's picks and that determines their bonus pool. Teams can exceed the bonus pool, but there are penalties for doing so. By losing the 17th pick the Brewers will lose a significant portion of their pool, but I wouldn't be surprised if a Boras guy projected to go higher mysteriously falls to us. Do you have to use the "bonus pool" money for draft picks? If so, then loosing a pick and loosing the money seems to be a wash (don't really need the money if you don't have the pick). I will not root for him. He is a crap pitcher who lucked into a couple halfway decent seasons in a row right before free agency. He will be a bigger bust than Suppan, mark my words and I will boo him to the World Series if I have to. Wow, really? With all due respect, do you know how ridiculous that sounds? I get that you don't like the signing, because you believe it will be a bust, but if it turns out not to be a bust and he wins the Cy Young and the Brewers go to the WS, instead of admitting you were wrong you will continue to insist that it was a terrible move and a bust?? C'mon.
