  1. No details regarding the terms of the signing yet?
  2. Just saw also that one of the changes for 2023 is playing every team at least once. I think that's great but would also like to see with that the elimination of divisions (you could still play "regional" teams slightly more often). Then just rank the teams (NBA style) for the playoffs.
  3. Limiting throws to 1st - Very strongly oppose. Larger base size - oppose How about this. They put targets in the bleachers and anyone that hits them gets 2 Homeruns?! Or wait, let's eliminate one of the bases. More runs make baseball so much more interesting. Someone posted earlier (I think in this thread) about the ADD generation. I'm beginning to agree with that.
  4. A few quick thoughts: Shift Ban - Hate End of one game playoffs (not talking about the one game tie breaker, which I actually like but now is gone) - Love International Draft - What was decided on that? Maybe I skimmed over it. When I google it, everything that comes up are pre-agreement articles. As a Brewer Fan, I'm not sure how you could not want it to be a draft. Is it made public anywhere which players voted against the deal? edit: Also, in regards to the pitching clock (that was added, right?). Great if they actually enforce it. Didn't they enact some rule a few years ago that players had to keep one foot in the batter's box between pitches? Have never seen that enforced.
  5. Plenty of blame to go around on both sides. Rob Manfred is horrible and waiting 40+ days to offer a proposal after ordering a player lockout showed a complete lack of urgency. At the same time, the players rejecting the use of a federal mediator to resolve the dispute tells me that they know they are asking for more than is reasonable.
  6. Yes, no need to throw a pity party, but I have zero sympathy for this kind of whining from pro athletes. Everyone make choices in life. There are a lot of people missing out on "life experiences" doing much harder work, getting paid a lot less, and getting a lot less attention for the work they do. Not sure how you can give a full effort if you really feel this way and there is absolutely no excuse for expressing those feelings to paying fans. On a different note - the players want to penalize small market teams that finish in the lottery in consecutive seasons, but they are also opposed to revenue sharing and want to reduce the luxury tax. *Sigh* Seems like most of the player proposals are things that would hurt small market teams like the Brewers.
  7. Not sure why people believe an owner's personal wealth has anything to do with how much should be spent on payroll. I work for a company with one 100% owner and 7 other employees. Yes, much different scale, but the owner has never reached into his own pockets to help pay for employee salaries, rent, etc and I would not expect him to. If Musk, Bezos, or Buffett owned the Brewers, that would not change the Brewer's payroll. They would not reach into their own personal wealth to pay for player salaries. Sounds like some people would rather have the Brewers move than spend "one more penny" of tax payer dollars. Do you think the Brewers add zero value to the community? Do you not think that it's amazing that Milwaukee, with the 40th ranked metropolitan area population in the U.S. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_statistical_area), has a MLB baseball team?! I get the anger at paying taxes for a place for a team owned by a millionaire with millionaire ballplayers to play. Your arguments are not invalid. However A) Tax subsidies are provided by states to companies all the time in order to incentivize them to stay in the state or come to the state (yes, I understand that there are some mixed results to these incentives), and B) Are you willing to possibly, at some point down the road, let the Brewers go to a city that will provide the Brewers with what they are looking for? This is Brewerfan, right?
  8. There are several reasons why I dislike Manfred. Mostly due to rule changes that he is "experimenting" with in the minors with the possibility of bringing them to the majors some day. Things like limiting pick off moves to first (Seriously?!) and making the shift "illegal" (or limiting the area where certain players can position themselves). There are others, but those are the 2 that immediately come to mind. I also am not a fan at all of expanding the playoffs. I've always like that baseball playoff were move exclusive than other sports (NBA playoffs are a joke).
  9. Apparently they are meeting again tomorrow (after meeting today). So, perhaps a little progress was made? https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/sports/nbcsports/mlb-lockout-league-union-to-meet-again-tuesday-as-talks-pick-up/2736627/
  10. The TSA is considering banning unruly passengers from pre-check privileges. This isn't already a thing? Imo, they should not only lose these privileges permanently, but also be banned from flying for a minimum of a year.
  11. My Boss's son, Peter Bukowski, does the Locked On Packers Podcast.
  12. Well if things don't work out I believe there is a spot open for assistant to the traveling secretary.
  13. Had to contact Spectrum about returning an unused cable box. At the end of the conversation the support person wanted to know if I was aware of an emergency broadband credit program, and if not, did I want more information. I doubted that I qualified for it, but I said sure, email me the information. So I get an email with a link to information about the program under the "Do I qualify" section is this: Experienced a substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020 due to job loss or furlough AND has a total household income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single filers and $198,000 for joint filers; So, if I'm reading this correctly, if you were making $150k but, because a substantial loss in income since Feb 2020, are now making $95k, you qualify. However, if you are making $40k but had no substantial loss of income since Feb 2020, you don't qualify. Ok?
  14. So, Joc Pederson comes up and Joe Buck says, "Pederson struck out twice against Urquidy. He'll now have to deal with Javier" Smoltz replies with, "Joc is looking for a fastball. Urquidy will have to get him out with sliders"
  15. How could Ron Kulpa possibly be one of the World Series umpires? Makes zero sense. https://umpscorecards.com/umpire.html?name=Ron%20Kulpa
  16. My credit for DS game 5 and the 4 games of the CS showed up today on my credit card account as pending today. Same for my game 5 DS and my two CS games. I have not seen any refund yet.
  17. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/red-sox-vs-astros-graphic-125338855.html A player like Keston Huira fights hard to make it to the Majors. Has an outstanding rookie year and looks to have a bright future. Suddenly his offense disappears and he is sent back down to the minors and, unless he finds his game again, his MLB future is suddenly uncertain. An Umpire makes it to the big show. End of story. They are there for as long they want, no matter how bad they end up being. No incentive to improve or consequences for being consistently wrong with calls. Why does MLB continue to allow this? If there are certain umpires who are consistently out of line with the rule book definition of the strike zone, umpires who tend to argue more with managers and show a higher tendency to toss players/managers (hmm..wonder why?), then they should be required to improve. If they do not improve, they should be replaced by someone who is more deserving.
  18. Any other season seat holders get the residual of the playoff ticket deposit returned yet?
  19. Edit: Someone actually finally answered about 5 minutes after I posted this. She ended up telling me that she could not talk to me until I filled out a form 56 to show that I'm a fiduciary for my Dad and send it in via USPS and then wait 30 days to call back. *Sigh*
  20. Saw some web site that suggested I call the IRS right when they open (7am) or right before they close (7pm). So, I called at 6:45 and I actually got put into a waiting queue! However, it said approximate wait time 15-30 minutes. I'm still on hold. It's been 40 minutes. So, do they actually take calls after 7 if you were put in the queue prior to 7? I mean, logically they would just end your call at 7 and tell you to call back the next day, right? They wouldn't just leave you hanging on hold with hold music and a voice that chimes in every 3 minutes or so saying "our representative are still busy with other customers, please continue to hold", thinking someone is still going to answer your call, would they? Not the government, right? Ok, 45 minutes and counting now!
  21. I think any additional gains the players gain in the next CBA will probably not be good for teams like the Brewers.
  22. Right. I was 16 at the time and that definitely factors into why I will never want to forget that late 70s/Early 80s Brewer era. From 1978 through 1982 were definitely my favorite Brewer teams. I especially loved the 1978 team. George Bamberger named manager. Finally someone to lead us with a name and a proven track record. An increase of 26 wins from the season before and finally in contention for a penant with 90+ victories. A Robin Yount holdout threating to become an PGA professional. And who do they get to replace him, Paul (the Ignitor) Molitor. Cecil Cooper, Sal Bando, Molitor and Yount on the infield. A loaded outfield of Larry Hisle, Gorman Thomas and Sixto Lezcano. Think they would have only scored 6 runs against the Braves? A bench of Don Money, Ben Oglivie and a young Jim Gantner and Charlie Moore. A young and promising pitching staff lead by Mike Caldwell's 22 wins and Larry Sorenson's 18. With young pitchers such as Jerry Augustine, Bill Travers, Moose Haas and Bob McClure. Of course like any other staff some of those guys flamed out but we never had promise like that, the past 8 years. We started the season with a 5 game homestand. First off was Baltimore the second place team in '77 with 97 wins. We swept and outscored the Orioles 40-11 in the first series. Sixto, Gorman and Cecil hit grand salamis in each game. How to follow that series up but by sweeping a 2 game set against World Champ Yankees. What an unbelieveable start. The city of Milwaukee was on fire with this team. You could tell this was a start to a magical summer. I think my appreciation of those days were also enhanced by the fact that most games were not on TV. I listened on the radio most nights, mimicking batting stances in my bedroom as each hitter came up. That also meant going to games was that much more special. My friends and I went to many games taking the county bus that dropped us off at the VA Center. Some of the most memorable games to me were: - Ricky Henderson beating the single season SB mark. I could be wrong, but I think they gave out "full" size bats at that game. Whatever game it was I still have the bat. A green Mountain Dew logo bat. - Ending Ron Guidry's 13-0 start - Going to a DH against the Yankees and the big "Reggie Who?" banner someone had in the bleachers. That was also before reserved bleacher seating. When games were packed, if you left your seat, good luck getting it back. Especially when you are 15-16 years old 5' 8" and weight 130lbs soaking wet. ABC also had Monday Night Baseball back then and TWIB was a much watch every Saturday before the game of the week.
  23. Right. I was 16 at the time and that definitely factors into why I will never want to forget that late 70s/Early 80s Brewer era.
  24. Are they really doing that? I hope not. It's time to let 1982 go. Not saying the team has to do a celebration. But even if the Brewers win multiple World Series in the coming years, I'll never let 1982 go (or the 2-3 years leading up to that year). That was a great time in my life that I will always remember. That was also a really fun team!
