  1. My father-in-law got into an accident yesterday. He's fine, but the car is totaled. He's 80, does not have a lot of money at all. He lives in Sullivan and needs some sort of transportation for his trips to the VA Hospital in West Allis and getting groceries, etc. Looking for something for less than $1,000 that does not currently need repairs and might last him for at least 2 or 3 years. Thought I would try Brewerfan since I find the people on this site to be trustworthy.
  2. The amazing thing is that over the next 8 years he is scheduled to average just a little over $15M per year. The most he will make in any year is $19M. What an unbelievable bargain and I bet you will never hear Braun complain about it. To me, any bad moves/trades made by Melvin are pretty much negated by this incredible contract he negotiated with Braun and his agent.
  3. I wish!
  4. This was part of the headline story of Haudricourt's Sunday baseball notebook this past weekend in the JournalSentinel: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/coreys-heart-in-brew-city-op6jul6-167445795.html Thanks for sharing this article. I did not see this. I love to hear things like this. Hart may have just become my favorite Brewer (along with Bruan). It's great to hear a player talk about "loyalty" and "playing were they are happy" instead of just about money.
  5. A co-worker of mine said he heard some similar comments on the radio from Hart this morning. Actually, not so much that he recently talked with Greinke, but something along the lines that he told him before he left that he was going to miss Milwaukee and that money isn't everything.
  6. I actually thought the closing ceremony was great (other than NBC not showing The Who until after the local news!!). Perhaps Bejiing's was better quality, but if I don't know any of the entertainers, I don't care. At least I could relate to London's closing ceremony.
  7. They were on after the news. You have to be kidding? Really? So they feel it necessary to preview their new comedy and have the local news before showing the ending of the ceremony at what?...11pm on a Sunday night? Nice work NBC.
  8. I thought "The Who" was supposed to be in the closing ceremonies. Was that just a rumor? Did they cancel? Or...did I just miss them somehow?
  9. That ball hid by Maldanado looked like it hit a towel. Isn't there a ground rule that covers that?
  10. Car #2 does seem to have a few more options if I'm reading them right (BlueTooth, XM radio, Aluminum running board, etc - although I don't see the aluminum running boards in those pictures, so maybe those options are just all options that were available when the car was new? Why would they list those on a used car?), but not $5,000 worth or extra features. I agree completely with Baldkin. Bring in a printout of the cheaper car to the dealer of car #2 and ask him to explain why there is such a difference in price. If he does not have good answers for you (watch out for the Jedi mind games!) and he's unwilling to meet or beat the price of car #1, then walk. If both Car Fax reports check out, seems like Car #1 is definitely the better value at this point. Edit: By the way, I like the posting for car #1 better also. Why is there no price listed for Car #2? It says internet special: please call. Yeah right.
  11. Many of the ones I really liked have already been mentioned. There are a lot of skits I liked throughout the years. I'm not sure if these are my all time favorites, but there up there somewhere. Nick Cage - "Aswipe" http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/baby-names/1354910 Jim Carrey - Life Guard http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/jacuzzi-lifeguard/1400690
  12. A game I just remembered that I was at but did not put in my original post. Not sure where it would rank but the game where Cubs RF Brant Brown dropped the fly ball that would have ended the game and give the Cubs a win as they were fighting for the Wild Card. Brewers won but the Cubs still got the Wild Card that year. I had pretty good seats on the 1st base line but completely missed the dropped ball. As soon as the ball was hit, I bent over to start to gather up my belongings. Then I heard a big cheer that I knew was not the sound of Cub fans celebrating a victory. I heard people shout "He dropped it!" and I looked up to see Brown chasing after the ball. I had to go back and look at the details of that game again. I remember Sosa hitting 2 HRs that game (in the middle of the McGwire/Sosa HR battle), but I didn't remember that the Brewers were down 7-0 after 6 innings!
  13. I'm sure I'm going to forget some, but from all the games I remember being at, here are my top 10: 1) Game 5 of the 1982 ALCS. I was at all the home post-season games that year - so the WS games have to rank right up here as well. 2) Game 5 of the ALDS last year. 3) The Division clincher last year 4) Yount's 3000th 5) Molitor's streak ending (the Rick Manning being booed for getting a game winning hit game). 6) 5 HR's in one inning 7) Weeks and Fielder first HR 8) Rickey Henderson breaking the season SB mark 9) Tie - Last game at County Stadium/First game at Miller Park 10) Moose Haas outdueling Ron Guidry to give Guidry his first loss of the season (after going 13-0)
  14. I drove this, this morning on my way home from Bay View. 794 does go down to 1 lane after the 94/43 split. Then the 2nd (middle) lane is the on ramp from Milwaukee (?) St. I am really not sure how they could remedy the situation, beyond having that on ramp merge well before where they are forced to. Well, what they could have done is left it the way it was. Prior to this change a couple of months ago, 794 was two lanes after the 94/43 split and the on ramp you are talking about (It's not Milwaukee, it's Clybourn - it's the ramp on get on every day) just fed into those two lanes. Basically, now it goes from 2 lanes to 1 lane to 2 lanes (even 3 at a small portion) to 1 lane. Even though it's not technically 2 (or 3) lanes because the "extra" lane is an "on ramp", the on ramp is so long that it's like 2 lanes. What I'm noticing more and more is that cars from 794 are moving over to the middle lane (the "on ramp") in an attempt to pass other cars and then having to merge back into the single lane. I have also noticed that the on ramp I take has become more popular as people don't want to wait in that single 794 lane as people merge into it from the on ramp (so they are riding Clybourn all the way up to 7th street (James Lovell) and getting on there instead of getting on at Jackson.)
  15. I couldn't agree more. Yes, Kyles is a "class act". There have been lot's of "class acts" in baseball throughout the years that have been fired. The major issue with the Brewers this year has been their bullpen. Kyles was the Bullpen coach. Why is it so hard to fathom that he would be fired? Scapegoat or not...it seems pretty logical to me.
  16. I'm hoping someone can help me with an XM Sirus question. I currently have an XM Subscription, but I looking to purchase a Ford Fusion which seems to have Sirius radio only. One of the main reasons I like XM is because I can pick up baseball games. However, it appears that Sirius only has baseball games available online and not through a radio service. I called SiriusXM to ask questions about this, but they did not exactly instill confidence with the answers they gave. Can I get baseball games on a Sirius radio? Believe it or not this might determine which type of car I buy. I currently have a "portable" XM radio in my car. I hate all the wires and I'm looking forward to getting a new car with the radio pre-installed. I don't want to buy a car with Sirius radio and have to have it ripped out just to install an XM radio.
  17. While yes, that 3rd lane is just an on ramp, there have been some times during rush hour, when there are heavier backups, that it is basically 3 merging into one. I get on at 6th street and so I'm in the middle lane and I try to ride it just until the merge and get in. I believe this is the way the engineers designed the merging to work. However, I get a lot of people upset with me (and others that get on at that same ramp) as if I purposely went into that lane and tried to pass everyone (although, I do notice that some people do that). When school starts traffic increases and when we get any kind or snow that whole merging area is going to be a big parking lot type mess.
  18. There are a lot of people that work downtown and live west. I think it's crazy that we have to look for "alternate routes" out of downtown on a permanent basis, especially after they just rebuilt the entire Marquette interchange in order to make travel through the interchange EASIER. The whole design seems to have been very poorly thought out when it comes to people leaving downtown.
  19. REO Speedwagon at the "MECCA" March 30, 1981. Same day Ronald Regan was shot. Also, why all the hate for Michael McDonald and/or the Doobie Brothers?
  20. That's my question too. My guess, from what you are saying Baldkin is that people were crossing 3 or 4 lanes of traffic from 794 to get over to the 25th street off ramp. My question is who takes 794 to 25th street?!? I guess maybe if you are coming from Cudahy (over the Hoan Bridge) it makes some sense, but to get on 794 downtown and then get off at 25th street does not make a whole lot of sense. Well, at any rate, I hope they eventually come up with a better solution to this problem. How about a sign.."Crossing over to 25th street off ramp is prohibited" ?
  21. McKinley is pretty far out of the way for most people that work downtown. Also, I have taken that ramp a couple of times when I had to go south after work and it's usually quite a mess (the ramp meter lights are pretty much irrelevant on that ramp as cars are just backed up on the whole ramp at rush hour. I never take that ramp anymore if I have to go south). So, by the time you get to that ramp, get through it, and then onto 94 West you have probably actually lost time compared to just dealing with 794. Again, they basically have screwed anyone who lives West and works downtown. As far as it being "a horse a piece"...I have to disagree. There are basically 4 lanes all the way up to the 25th street/Clybourn off ramp. Two lanes a piece sounds fair to me. Now, the people coming from downtown have to squeeze into one lane before they get to 16th street. If it is "a horse a piece" then some engineer in charge of designing the new Marquette Interchange should never be allowed to design interchanges again. It really should not have taken a whole lot of experience to foresee that this was going to be a problem. It was much easier to get out of downtown before the new interchange was completed. They also took away an on ramp for people living west of downtown when they designed the new interchange. You use to be able to get on 794 at 2nd street and continue West. Now you can only go south or north onto 43.
  22. The quotes from Grienke in the paper this morning (yes, I still get a physical paper!) were really "Greinke like". He sounds a little upset about the situation:
  23. 794 West bound out of Milwaukee. If you live west of Milwaukee but work downtown, they really don't want to make it easy for you to get home at night. Originally they had two lanes on 794 west that merged with 94 west and everything was fine. About a month or two ago, they decided to narrow all lanes on 794 west to 1 lane. On top of that, many people that take this route every evening fail to understand the "zipper" policy when it comes to merging. I really want to send an email to someone about this, but I'm not sure who. Does anyone know who makes decisions regarding these types of things....the DOT? What department of the DOT?
  24. This is an interesting article about the mental feedback loops that drive these things; http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/06/ff_feedbackloop/ Just saw this and didn't get a chance to read the entire article...read about 1/3 of it. I guess I don't fall into this group of people. They can't fool me with their Jedi mind tricks.
