  1. "I'll feel differently as soon as I start seeing players with guaranteed contracts saying "I'm not earning the contract, so you don't need to pay me." You know it's interesting that you should bring that up. IIRC the last guy to do that was Lyman Bostock I believe. He signed a huge contract at the time and had a bad year. Told the owner that he didn't earn it and they should cut his pay. At least thats how I recall it......I think the owner was Gene Autry? http://sabr.org/bioproj/person/9bb77e84
  2. So there is no difference between a guy who says he would be open to signing a 2 year extension and somebody who turns down a bigger money 8 year deal? "Braun did it, and it honestly shocked me, so it's not like it's never happened before, but I just don't see Hart turning down millions of dollars to stay in Milwaukee." Hart already did it when he begged for his last extension. He was set to become a free agent in 3 months and asked the Brewers to make him an offer because he wanted to stay. Prince was "willing to stay" if we gave him the best offer(which he knew was impossible). Big difference there. Corey goes out of his way to say he doesn't need every last dollar and although he would like to stay his whole career in Milwaukee 2 years would be ok too. Did Prince ever say anything remotely similar to that? Prince only talked about his contract when asked. He was always diplomatic but never went out of his way to tell everyone who would listen how much he loved Milwaukee. His standard response was "yeah it's cool here.......Maybe we can work it out....we'll see". ps. I'm not saying he won't or shouldn't be traded. MA and DM have to decide what's best for the Brewers. All I'm saying is it's refreshing to see a guy who does in fact show loyalty to an organization and a city.
  3. You are really going to compare Hart to Prince and CC? Really? Hart begged in the media for an extension offer right before the trade deadline 2 years ago. As soon as he got it he signed it.....it took all of a week or 2 IIRC. Prince was offered a big contract and turned it down....said he liked playing here but never said he wouldn't take top dollar and would accept a 2 year extension. He also had Boros as his agent. CC said he loved it here and would be "open to staying" but he never made staying here a priority and certainly never asked for an extension while he was still under contract. He sure didn't say "I don't need every last dollar" in the media no less like Corey just did. If you can't see the difference you just don't want to see it. Now if the brewers low ball him he might not take it but his meaning is clear. Let's talk and see if we can find some common ground....I love Milwaukee and if you give me a reasonable offer I'll sign it.
  4. Corey said he would even go for a 2 year extension. Told Greinke he should have stayed in Milwaukee because he was happy here. Doesn't sound like he is looking to break the bank. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/coreys-heart-in-brew-city-op6jul6-167445795.html
  5. "I don't think anything is ever set in stone. Right now, the focus for Hunter is to be the best first baseman he can be. It could be a situation where we've got Corey, we obviously still like [Mat] Gamel, and we have Morris -- that's a good problem to have."
  6. Thanks What about Garman as a reliever? His numbers look good. Really need to shore this area up in the draft.
  7. Looking at our current major league roster we have a glaring need for some lefthanded arms in both the rotation and the pen. Parra has been ok at best and now that Wolf is gone and Narvy is injured we have no other lefties even on the current roster. Outside of Bradley(who obviosly struggled this year) do we have any solid prospects who might be ready to help at the major league level in the next few years? Are any of them power arms? I see the kid Sale for the White Sox dominate the Yankees last night and it makes me wish we could find a guy like that. 13th pick in the draft out of high school and pitching great in the AL at 23.
  8. I think BA must have been looking at the CF. Most of the time when a ball is gone by that much the guy doesn't go to the wall and then look up....
  9. Are the Cubs this bad or is Gallardo just dealing? Man he has looked awesome lately. ps. Braun is just unreal at hitting with power to the opposite field......another bomb...#34
  10. Finally......I think it's actually a nice present to give somebody 6 weeks off with pay
  11. This inning is just classic Cubs....lol 3 walks to load the bases....2 beautiful curve balls for strikes and then he throws a fastball over Lucroys head to the backstop....lol Double down the line scores 2. 4-0 Brew on 2 hits.
  12. Like I said before...Corey wants to stay. Should be an interesting off season. He could be traded or they could extend him. Business is buisness but as I have said I have a soft spot for guys like Corey. Will do whatever is asked of him to help the team and loves Milwaukee. Tough decisions await DM and MA. http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/2012/08/21/hart-hopes-to-spur-extension-talks/
  13. Reaching on an error is not considered getting on base when calculating OBP. Only walks, hits and HBP. Yeah, but those things are already in BA and OBP (errors are in OBP).
  14. Nice from Rock "Brewers dropped a little snowman on the Cubs"....lol
  15. Not sure if we have a better bench option or not but I see no reason why Bianchi shouldn't have Ransoms spot. We know Ransom won't be on the team enxt year. Bianchi has a chance to make the team as a utility guy and he is already on the 40 man roster. ps. Ransom is striking out over 48% of the time this year and that was before today when he had 2 or 3 more.
  16. I have to disagree. This is nothing like a spring training game. In spring training you give time to young players who yolu expect will be part of your future and more experienced players fighitng for the few jobs that you are trying to fill for that season. You obviously also have to get your regulars ready for the season. Lets count the number of guys playing today that have little or no chance to be on the Brewers team next year. Wolf McClendon Morgan Ransom And last but not least Ishikawa If it was indeed spring training we would be looking at guys who might be part of the future instead of retreads that are now only a grim reminder of this lost season.
  17. If I had tickets to this game I'd ask for my money back. It's bad enough that you get stuck with watching Wolf pitch but then our manager basically forfeits the game by giving Hart and AR a day off at the same time.
  18. Couldn't Roenicke/Melvin do suffering Brewer fans a favor and spare us from having to watch Randy Wolf for the rest of the season? I mean I'd rather watch ANYONE else get a chance........
  19. It's one thing to be a bad team....it's another to be a stupid one.... We just continue to give outs away......These guys are just playing for stats now it seems......Maybe Roenicke should do some actual managing by telliing them they shouldn't be running down 3 runs?
  20. It has nothing to do with Weeks....he is available...they just don't want to burn one of the 4 bench players they have this early.
  21. Down 4-1 and our roster is so messed up that we have to use a pitcher to pinch hit in the 5th inning. What has Mike Mcclendon pitched since he has been recalled about 2 or 3 innings?
  22. Every starter goes through bad stretches. Colorado type starts have happened to many good pitchers including Gallardo. When his command is off he will struggle like most pitchers
  23. Yo has really got it all working tonight....very impressive. Love to see him use the change up from time to time.
