  1. In order to clear room on the 40-man roster for Cesar Izturis, the Nationals DFA'd a dude named Atahualpa Severino. CLAIM HIM, DOUG.
  2. He has a 641 OPS (a 70 OPS+) with the Brewers, though his defense at SS has been pretty decent. Better than I thought it would be, anyway. This is overstating it a bit. He has struck out in less than 40% of his ABs this year in total, and with the Brewers. But regardless of how good or not good he is, Ransom should not cut into a single AB of Segura's playing time. For Cody's sake, I hope a contender picks him up so he can be in a playoff race.
  3. Being discussed in the Major League forum, Jean Segura has been called up to join the Brewers. I hope they give a guy like Shea Vucinich or Mike Walker a chance in AA instead of just shifting Juan Sanchez to a new team for the 583rd time in the past 3 years.
  4. "It looks like this is my lucky day. I'll take The Rapists for $200." http://FunnyOrDie.com/m/27fw
  5. From what I understand, Bradley's mechanics are a mess and his velocity is down. He had problems with his in college as well, though not quite to the extent he's experienced thus far. Unless he has an arm injury, he should be able to recover the velocity if he fixes the mechanics. If.
  6. Free Segura. It boggles me a little that Khris Davis has not played a single game in the minors at first base. Either the Brewers think he has the arm for right (and Hunter Morris is a 3B, also), they're thinking about moving Braun (based on Davis' production? not likely), or they don't have a plan for him.
  7. Ever since his return from the DL a few months ago, Bradley has been terrible, but is it even worth it to demote him at this point? Let's hope he gets himself straightened out between now and the beginning of next year, lest he be labeled Arnett MK2.
  8. Jose Sermo with 2 HRs and 7 RBIs in game one of the AZL doubleheader. Coulter and Pena went yard as well. After a slow start, Coulter is putting together a heckuva campaign at the plate.
  9. I have to be honest here... I just looked at the box score and didn't realize it was a no-hitter. I saw all the walks and thought to myself, "Huh... and they still won. Weird."
  10. I'm with gregmag and TLB... I have a four year old daughter. It's rare the hour goes by that I don't hear about at least two or three of the Disney princesses. The Little Mermaid is now and will forever be the first thing I think of when I see or hear the name Ariel.
  11. The three pitchers the Stars used tonight were 6'9, 6'6 and 6'6.
  12. I'm looking forward to at some point seeing Hellweg get some hacks in at the plate. You don't see too many 6'9 batters.
  13. Exciting at the time, pretty disappointing as a group now. Hopefully this cadre of Stars has better luck.
  14. WHOA, flashback.
  15. The Pirates also sent the Yankees $250,000 in the deal. The Pirates are giving the Yankees money... neat.
  16. Villanueva was the Rangers' 8th best prospect coming into 2012, according to BA, and the #100 prospect on their top 100 prospect list. Hendricks was not ranked.
  17. We'll never catch the Reds now.
  18. Eh... Sanchez has tanked during his 28 year old season, which usually does not portend great things to come. The Pirates essentially traded a first round pick (along with the slot pool money attached to it) for a guy at an easy defensive position who had a few decent years during his prime.
  19. Coming into tonight's game, AZL 3B Taylor Smith-Brennan was batting .103, with a .366 OBP. 82 plate appearances, 6 hits (1 HR), 23 walks, 27 strike outs. It's bizzaro 3TO! Nick Bucci up to 5 innings tonight with the Baby Brewers, good ones too. Gotta think he's close to done with his rehab assignment.
  20. I'm pretty surprised that Bradley still found his way onto Callis' new top 10.
  21. Masterson is a ground ball inducing machine, so how much you value him may depend on how much you value your infield defense. I'd certainly think about taking two years of him over one year of Hart. Edit: Just looked and the Cleveland first basemen have the third-worst OPS in MLB. Though, I don't know how apt Cleveland would be to trade for a starting first baseman with the Brewers, as they tried getting a first baseman of the future from Milwaukee four years ago and it hasn't worked out too well.
  22. You can practically hear the drop in 2013 season ticket sales over the whisper of the crowd during this 11th inning bullpen blowup.
  23. Burgos is the starting pitcher for game 1 of the doubleheader. I'm sure the fans are pissed, that they have to wait an entire game to see Seth McClung.
