  1. If this statement is serious, it is seriously misguided. Sleep disorders bring about Jeff Suppan jokes and family emergencies are shams? You have to be kidding me.
  2. The Nashville Sounds will presumably have to make a roster move to accommodate the acquisition of Brown. Good-bye Juan Sanchez?
  3. After watching Gamel play 1B for a few games in Nashville, I wasn't impressed. The best way I can put it is that he looked nonchalant on defense. Maybe he was trying, but he could be a lot better than plays there.
  4. He would likely be an above average first baseman defensively, probably better than Gamel. But even moreso than LF, you have to wonder if he would hit enough.
  5. I'd think about Swihart over Springer there, but it would be hard to be disappointed by that haul.
  6. Former Brewer farmhand Wes Etheridge, now 26, got the save against the Manatees today. He last pitched for the Brewers in West Virginia, in '08.
  7. I love it when an opposing pitcher throws over to first (provided he doesn't pick our guy off) - less attention to the guy at the plate, the better.
  8. I thought the first Will Ferrell episode was some of the worst TV I've watched in some time. The opening gag was just so unimaginative. The second one was pretty good, though. I liked the song and Meredith getting the Best Mother Dundie.
  9. That about sums it up. Farris has every last defensive skill necessary to be an above average SS, except that his arm there is not passable. He could play there for a few games without killing a team, but over a whole season he'd be a huge drain. Again, as I mentioned in the Power 50 player comments, I'd love to see the Brewers give him time at 3B (where his arm might be fringe-adequate) and CF, where his speed and instincts should play well (except we'd run into the arm strength thing there, too). For the Brewers to get value out of him - and there is value there - they have to find ways where he can help all over the field. FWIW, I think he can be a full time big league second baseman, but that's not happening here.
  10. That may have been my favorite episode of Parks and Recreation yet. Every character but Jerry was utilized perfectly. Ron in the health food store was funny, but the 45 second scene in the Food 'N Stuff store had me absolutely dying.
  11. Kyle Heckathorn issued his first walk of the year in the 1st inning. He started the year with 18 walk-less innings pitched.
  12. 3 year/$30Mish deals have been relatively popular recently for extending not-young pitchers. Marcum might go for 3 years/$35M or so.
  13. Farris looks to have the range and instincts to play SS (or 3B, for that matter), but just doesn't have the arm to play there everyday IMO.
  14. "Will the Rattlers ever play again?" Maybe yes, maybe...Rattlers games postponed.
  15. Oblique injuries can recur very easily. Brewers are just being careful, quite rightly IMO.
  16. 1a) Mat Gamel 1b) Casey McGehee
  17. If it comes down to Marcum for 4 or Greinke for 7 at 150% of Marcum's salary, Greinke 100% of the time. I don't trust that Marcum would pitch more than 200 innings past 2012. There's also the distinct possibility that Greinke just decides to walk away at some point in the next 7 years. He seems like a guy that would be happy to try out professional golfing as a career around age 32.
  18. I really hate to use the lame-out "I haven't read all the thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but..." line, but I did the Power 50 this morning and was not home when this happened, so I'm just catching up. I wonder if Braun's signing bonus will affect this year's budget? Attanasio has said that they'll spend money if a player is available, but the payroll just rose by $10M this year. Will it hamper the Brewers at the trade deadline when they make their inevitable deal for a bench bat? Don't get me wrong, having Braun around until I'm almost 40 at a cost-controlled level is worth the price of admission, but what about this year?
  19. I watched Farris make 4 throws, and was not impressed with his arm strength on any of them. He side-arms it, I think in an effort to speed up his release, but I can't say that it works.
  20. Yes, Kottaras cleared waivers. Link. C George Kottaras has been assigned outright to Nashville. Kottaras will join Nashville on Saturday.
  21. I wonder how close the Brewers are to ending the long Brock Kjeldgaard experiment? It's not like he's blocking anyone in particular, but he's 25 with a 702 career OPS in the FSL.
