  1. Haudricourt: Brewers RHP Shaun Marcum threw bullpen Friday with no problems and shoulder stiffness appears gone. Still starting 2nd game in Cincy.
  2. Per McCalvy, Greinke is throwing again. Pain free session on Friday. Great news.
  3. Green was a MLB deal, Segovia has yet to prove to be as good as Mitre, and Egan wasn't good enough/healthy enough to keep.
  4. His RAR was >0 both years. It was my mistake, though - when I was looking at his projection for 2011 at Fangraphs, I thought that was his '10 season. What I get for posting at 5:30am Saturday. The comparison to Estrada is worthless at the moment. They're both making the team.
  5. His FIP for the same period is around 4.40. He's not the definition of replacement level - I think he's likely to be around a win or more above replacement. That's what he's been the past few years. Again, it's not a lot, but it's something. After seeing Dickerson play, I'm just not convinced Dickerson was going to be the answer if/when Gomez fails. This is basically a wash.
  6. I think Mitre is getting some unnecessary abuse here. He's no world beater - neither is Dickerson - but he's far from a terrible pitcher. His xFIPs the past three seasons he's pitched (he missed 2008 due to TJ surgery): 4.28, 4.00, 4.34. A ~4.25 xFIP over 250+ IP is not hot poop, but it isn't poop either. He's also a good GB pitcher, though with the Brewers infield D I'm not sure whether that's presently a plus or not. Mitre is probably going to have an ERA in the middle 4's, be a little above replacement level, and not wow anyone at any point. There's some value there, especially in the depth it creates in the bullpen. He's one more guy in the line of defense against having to bring up the Dillards of the world (no offense, Tim). And I've said this a number of times about Dickerson, and I'll say it one more time on the way out: I liked him a lot more before I saw him play. His batting style seems ineffectual to me. He's not one of those guys that takes a lot of BBs and Ks because he only swings at stuff in the zone. He often swings at stuff outside the zone he shouldn't be thinking about and takes good pitches over the plate. He's a good defender, and I'll miss that about him. I just don't think he's going to be much more than a 1-2 WAR player mostly due to D.
  7. Brandon Boggs and Jeremy Reed can both play CF, but you wouldn't want either one doing it a whole lot. I'm not a fan of Reed's OF play, so between the two I'd rather have Boggs do it.
  8. Egan was injured for a large chunk of camp.

  10. Well, when your opening day SP, #2 SP, LF, RF, C and 3B all have scary injuries - who has that depth?
  11. Colin Fly says that Rosario has cleared waivers, will be assigned to Brevard.

  13. It's a nice idea, but logistically, wouldn't it make more sense for them to play in South Korea?
  14. Carroll is a really good defender, with one of the best OF arms in baseball - strong and accurate. He hits for occasional power, but is otherwise a wreck at the plate. Could be a good guy to call up in September to play defense.
  15. My problem with Hunt wasn't his writing, it was his constant complaining about being forced to stay in Arizona due to a colleague's father passing away. That's icky humanity.
  16. TH makes me superglad that Michael Hunt is not a Brewers beat writer. Hunt is excited to leave Arizona, and I'm excited that he's going too.
  17. FWIW, Will Carroll says he's "relatively confident" that Greinke will only miss 2-3 starts. Tweetums.
  18. Refused and Audioslave are getting clobbered. Rage is 8 votes ahead of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Vote RATM!
  19. I do some sort of workout seven days a week most weeks, with a bare minimum being an hour on the elliptical or a 4 mile run either on the treadmill or outside. I've dropped about 25 pounds this year, almost all of it fat (or so my hand-held body fat monitor says), and have a lot more muscle tone than I really have ever had. I lift 5-6 days a week, rotating between a day each of upper body, core, and leg work. I keep a daily food log and limit my caloric intake to ~2300 calories a day. Usually end up with about 10-15% fat, and the remainder split between carbs (usually eaten earlier in the day) and protein. What are the major disadvantages to doing what I would consider at least a moderate workout every day? Before I started doing this back in early January, I had lots of little chronic aches and pains, but they've slowly gone away as I've been hitting the gym almost every day. Am I inviting injury by working out every day? Would you recommend altering anything? How does caffeine play in to a diet?
  20. Not off-topic at all. In fact, I'm interested to read the ongoing discussion. Please continue. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  21. Osmel Perez. Book it.
  22. That's terrible news about Schafer. Unreal how much bad injury luck he's had the past few years.
  23. Me too - the first thing that came to mind for me is that he was hanging out with Dave Krynzel. Zack Greinke is no Dave Krynzel.
