    I wouldn't read too much into the timing of the move. Could be they got a bad report from his winter league team, or they got indications from other teams that they wouldn't claim him if waived.

    My next poll is going to be, "Who wouldn't trade Mat Gamel for Garza or Shields?" or; "Wouldn't you not not not not not ever trade Mat Gamel not for Garza but also not for Shields, never?"

    There's a possibility that in order to improve the team's rotation, the Brewers will have to trade major league talent. Perhaps the team with the most available major league starting pitching is the Rays and not surprisingly, we've heard a lot of rumors linking the Brewers to Matt Garza and James Shields. The Rays' main areas of deficiency on their big league roster are the bullpen and corner outfield. Even more importantly, they need to cut payroll. Forgetting about their outfield needs for a second, they would clearly covet John Axford in a trade for either of the aforementioned starters. Axford is under team control for longer than Garza or Shields and won't be eligible for arbitration for a few more years. Clearly Axford alone wouldn't be enough to close to deal for either Rays pitcher, but he would go a long way to getting it done. Of course, Axford has a ton of value to the Brewers as well. It would be a tough pill to swallow to trade him away, even if it makes the rotation (and team) better. The Brewers would need to find another closer, which would either necessitate giving up even more talent in trade, signing a free agent to a risky contract, or relying on someone already on the team such as Hawkins, Braddock or Jeffress, none of whom have much closing experience. So, to trade Axford or not to trade Axford, what do you think?

    That was released towards the end of 2009. For whatever reason, I just didn't buy that much new music this year. I loaded up on older stuff instead. Of the nine albums I bought that were released in 2010, the only three that really stood out to me were: -The Black Angels: "Phosphene Dream" -Arcade Fire: "The Suburbs" -Broken Social Scene: "Forgiveness Rock Record" I thought the new LCD Soundsystem album was their worst release by far, an unfortunate way to go out. The new releases by The National and Stars were both somewhat disappointing, too.

    The Brewers do not have an unlimited amount of money to spend. If the Phillies didn't pick up any of Blanton's contract, Brewers payroll would be pushing $80M (less any money on contracts they sent over).

    If we're taking on his whole salary, I wouldn't give up much for him. But if the Phillies want to give him away, sure. He has a bizarrely consistent good ERA/bad ERA yearly cycle going and he's due for a good one this year.

    Yah, I didn't know everyone was down on Rogers. I'm not. I think he's about the 2nd best prospect we have in the system right now. Now on whether or not I'm down on the system...

    Perhaps Parra should be given starts in spring training, but I wouldn't let him sniff the rotation in the regular season unless he overwhelmingly proves that he has fixed his fastball.

    I've seen enough evidence that Parra's fastball just doesn't cut it, especially the 2nd+ time through the order, that barring some sort of mechanical tweak that adds movement to it or hides it better, I can't justify giving him another shot.

    KC didn't get Ryan because he actually has a skill - he has been one of the best SS's in the league on defense the past few years.

    This will be Narron's 7th season with the Brewers. He was claimed off waivers in September 2004 and missed the 2005 season due to injury. This is the third time he's re-signed with the club. He was acquired from the Camden Riversharks in early June last year.
