  1. My big takeaway from the past two seasons is that the Brewers sucked because they couldn't competently develop good pitching. Trading two months of service time for (potentially) one year of service time of a good pitcher would seem to further the Brewers' incompetence in that regard.
  2. I don't think we're going to be competitive enough next year where Rogers missing 8-10 big league starts and the difference between whatever the result of those starts would be and the guy who makes those big league starts in his stead is going to cost us a playoff spot. I'd rather Rogers' innings be kept down (and he will be limited to 150-160 innings next year) in the minors, as opposed to him missing starts and working out of the bullpen burning service time. I don't agree with the thought that you have to assume he's going to injured a few years down the road.
  3. If they wait a few months (or whatever it is) to bring him up, they'll have him for an extra year down the road. That's the main reason they won't/shouldn't put him in the big league rotation out of spring training. It's also easier to manipulate his innings in AAA where winning, in effect, is not the priority.
  4. Joey Cora is also on the docket to be interviewed. I don't really have a strong preference of any of these guys, but they are certainly doing their due diligence. At least it guarantees Bob freaking Brenly won't be a finalist this time around.
  5. Doesn't really belong in this thread, but it is pretty epic... (and slightly NSFW): Haudricourt has had enough of Lance Allen.
  6. More new information, this from Ken Rosenthal: Sources: #Brewers have interviewed Tim Wallach, Eric Wedge. Team plans to talk to about 10 in all for mgr's job. Bob Melvin on list. It was previously reported that Wallach accepted a new deal with the Dodgers, which is true, but I've also read that Wallach could get out of the deal if he's offered a manager's job.
  7. In what is the beginning of an impending threat to subvert and deflect proper criticism of either individual, Bob Melvin will be interviewing with Doug next week. Who will register firebothmelvins.com or dmsbm.com first? The same link to that Haudricourt story mentions that DM has already interviewed four guys, one of whom was probably Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke.
  8. Fiers sitting in the low 90's with his fastball in today's AFL game, which is good, but he's getting hit around.
  9. The Event has been a lot better than I expected. It reminds me of somewhat of both 24 and Lost.
  10. You don't have to use any of the features except the ones you need. That wasn't the point of the advice on getting the more expensive phone anyway... the more expensive phone will more than likely outlast the length of your contract, which will allow you more freedom once the contract is up. Or, you can keep buying cheap phones you don't like and keep renewing your contract that you don't like. I bought a refurbished iPhone about 3 years ago for around $100-$120 and it still works almost as well today as the day I bought it. I've never used a case with it, and drop it on the ground (which is occasionally made of concrete or asphalt) at least once a month. Still runs like a champ. You get what you pay for. I actually keep waiting for it to break so I can get a new one, but it isn't happening.
  11. The post has since disappeared, but a poster noted that Brett Lawrie and Logan Schafer no longer appear on the Surprise Rafters' roster page, and have been replaced by Hunter Morris and Caleb Gindl.
  12. Those last two pitches to Crawford during his 7th inning strikeout were at least 6 inches off the plate outside, but called strikes. Those were two of the more ridiculous strike calls I've seen in awhile.
  13. Wasn't it rumored that Brenly gave a terrible interview last time around?
  14. About Brenly... there aren't enough facepalms on Google image search to express my feelings about him.
  15. To paraphrase Patrick, an iPod is not worth picking a fight over.
  16. I don't have a link to support this, but I remember hearing a few times that the only coaching job Simmons would take is a manager's job.
  17. There was a moment towards the end of the season, in the game where Escobar was pulled for not running out a wild pitch strike out. FSN showed Randolph sitting next to Escobar on the bench, and it looked like Randolph was calmly but sternly describing to Escobar why he had been pulled. Escobar was nodding as Randolph talked, and it looked like he was actively taking in the advice, as opposed to just taking it. I don't know how much better Randolph's rapport is with the players, but I'm guessing it has to be better than Macha's. I thought Macha's strategy was generally sound, and unlike Yost, the problems I had with his decision making were generally just nits. If Randolph could be about as good with decision making and be that much better with the players, I'd have no problem with him as manager.
  18. I don't think anyone ignores K's from a hitter. Here's a good explanation of why K's are less important to hitters than pitchers. Basically, it's easier to be a good hitter who racks up strikeouts than a good pitcher who doesn't get strikeouts.
  19. I'd take the A's and Nationals off the "eliminated" list. The A's have been vocal about wanting to add power to the middle of their lineup and Fielder could DH for them. If the Nationals lost Dunn, they could be looking for a big-time replacement. Not likely, but possible.
  20. It's a good point about Capuano wanting to be here when many free agents would rather not be. The Brewers should make him an offer before the free agent filing period and get him signed up ASAP. The Brewers are not in a position to turn down cheap, potentially effective pitching.
  21. Should just note - that link is a poll of a group of guys that someone at the JS cobbled together, not anything rumored or official.
  22. It was a disappointing, but often entertaining season. We'll see (some of) you next year, guys.
  23. I got 151 too. Couldn't believe some of the ones I blanked on, and others I never would have got in a million years. No recollection of Gerald Williams. Edit - Now I remember, he was the guy they traded for Chad Fox.
  24. Loux started taking offers today. No word if the Brewers have or will put in a bid.
