  1. But they seem to want a bat like Gonzalez. They wouldn't give up as much for a year of Fielder, obviously, but it seems likely they'd have a fair amount of interest.
  2. I wonder if news of the Werth contract might have scuttled the Adrian Gonzalez deal. Gonzalez may well have said, "beat that deal."
  3. Boston is going to offer Crawford 10 years and $640 million dollars now.
  4. Ken Rosenthal disagrees with Jon Heyman. "This is far from over."
  5. The Brewers have re-signed RHRP Dave Johnson. This will be his 7th year in the organization, and he'll likely begin his third year in AAA. Wouldn't surprise me to see that he got a major league spring training invite, but we don't know that yet. Link to transaction. Link to stats.
  6. That's not realistic, but Fielder plus Peralta probably gets close. Jack Z. has to be feeling the heat to improve the offense.
  7. It looks like Boston is going to land Gonzalez. I'll be looking at the haul San Diego gets for him. If the Brewers can't get something similar, they probably shouldn't do it.
  8. Yah, but why would Baltimore want Fielder for one year? The rest of those guys - Konerko, Dunn, V-Mart - would have been around Baltimore for more than one year. I doubt anything happens with the Orioles.
  9. You'll be happy to know Rivera signed a AAA contract and will presumably battle Kottaras for the backup catching gig.
  10. Emaus could well be the guy, but he stands a decent chance of being a Rule 5 pick. Of course, the Brewers could just take him in the Rule 5 and then get another guy (like Gailey) from Toronto.
  11. I agree on Gailey. He's going into his 25 year old season, hasn't played above advanced-A ball, and is only 5'9, but the stats speak for themselves. I came up with the same four names on Twitter as Al did - Brad Emaus, Ronald Uviedo, Juan Hernandez, Gailey. I'd add Chad Beck and Randy Boone as possibilities. Adam Loewen is available too, but his time seems to have come and gone, unless the Brewers like his bat enough.
  12. FWIW, here are the Blue Jays' Rule 5 draft eligibles, at least as of a few days ago: link.
  13. Per the Brewers. I would hazard a guess that the player to be named is eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft. Kind of a strange trade, but it seems like the Brewers are really trying to pinch pennies on relievers.
  14. He's a catcher coming off a fractured hip. I don't think the Brewers are in a position to take this risk. Lucroy is fine. Martin could be an upgrade, or he could be unable to catch regularly again.
  15. Should also note that this is the end of Enrique Cruz's baseball legacy. I think. Ah, 2003.
  16. According to Haudricourt. Brewers haven't announced any of their tender decisions, so it is possible that Coffey won't be the only non-tender. FWIW, Haudricourt "heard" about Coffey and it isn't 100% confirmed. With the move, the Brewers' 40-man roster stands at 37.
  17. According to various sources, cobbled together by MLBTradeRumors. One less place for Prince to go in all likelihood. On a side note, I hate the White Sox. I hope they play Dunn in CF.
  18. Except that every time someone mentions Gerut's cycle, they will inevitably Moeller as the historical perspective. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We need a good player to hit for the cycle sometime soon.
  19. Tony Gwynn, Jr. is going to be non-tendered by the Padres according to @FollowThePadres on Twitter. No one wins the Gwynn-Gerut trade... double TKO.
  20. Yah, probably, though I don't know why that would have been a hangup for Milwaukee. Or Atlanta for that matter. Oh well... more money to throw at a middle reliever!
  21. ...says David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. So, the Brewers lose out to the Braves on a Wisconsin native.
  22. As reported by Jon Paul Morosi. He was fun to watch, that's for sure.
  23. I doubt he lasts until the Brewers' pick, but they could always swing a little deal to get Rodriguez if they really like him. He may not profile above a #4/5 starter, but the Brewers can always use pitching. I like Kyle Waldrop as a RHP and Scott Diamond/Robert Fish as LHPs. There's a Canadian catcher in the Rockies system by the name of Lars Davis that the Brewers might take a look at because he's Canadian.
  24. The Brewers have not signed Barden. Thanks to Adam McCalvy for the info!
