  1. Yah, same for me since around yesterday afternoon.
  2. You have to keep in mind the Brewers don't just monitor innings pitched, they monitor pitches thrown. Not all 141 innings are created equally - it could be that Rivas was a lot less efficient this season than he was last season and those 8.2 additional innings thrown this year were at substantially higher pitch counts. The opposite could be true for Rogers. Perhaps he has been more efficient. If Melvin said he's done pitching for the year, I take that to mean he's done pitching for the year. I don't read anything else in to Rivas not being called up other than he has pitched enough this year. Maybe his arm is a little sore or something, and they don't feel like making it public. He was on the DL towards the end of the season.
  3. I agree. Saying people from Maine aren't knowledgeable about baseball because they're from Maine is pretty poor. Anti-Maine rhetoric leads to no good.
  4. All those Mainers know about is lobster and trees. Maine is barely even a state!
  5. Rogers has officially been recalled, will be on the active roster tonight.
  6. I just came over here to post the same thing, sveumrules. This seems like exactly the kind of move Billy Beane would make. I don't have a firm grasp on the A's system, though a package based around Tyson Ross and Daric Barton might work. I don't think Barton is arby-eligible yet, which might make him less likely to be traded.
  7. Your logic is sounds, MJL, but I don't think it's impossible that Attanasio could muster the funds to be the principal owner of the Dodgers. This is why: -While it's possible that the Dodgers could sell for $800 mil or more, Forbes had them valued at $724 mil going in to the season. It's unlikely, though again possible, that the quick sale of the club necessitated by the McCourt family problems could push the asking price even lower, maybe to $700 mil. -It is entirely possible, given the large number of rich Dodgers fans, that Attanasio could put a group together where he'd be the principal owner, and only have a 25% stake (or less) in the team. -A 25% stake of $700 mil would *only* be an investment of $175 mil. If he were able to get $75-$100 mil out of his Brewers stake (which I have no idea about, but it sounds plausible), I would think it would be not impossible for him to raise the remaining <$100 mil. Again, I think you're right, but without knowing his personal finances, I wouldn't rule out his ability to muster the necessary funds to be lead owner of the Dodgers.
  8. I'm quite sure that Attanasio would love to own the Dodgers. However, I'm guessing the simple Attanasio-L.A. connection is providing the impetus for this rumor, not any substantial behind-the-scenes manuevering. I could be wrong, though.
  9. Any scenario that ends up with Mark Cuban owning the Brewers is fine with me. Edit: I should add, I think this rumor coming to fruition has odds about as long as the Brewers making the playoffs this year.
  10. Bicyclists who feel they are above both pedestrian and traffic law.
  11. That beard is fine - check out his most recent facial hair, though. You shouldn't steal anything from Jason Motte, but especially not his beard.
  12. I like the idea of Werth and Hart in the same lineup. It's very Moneyball... we'd be cornering a market inefficiency in tall, gawky right-handed batters with a history of terrible facial hair.
  13. Beating the Cardinals always seems to feel a little better than beating anyone else.
  14. They retied Rollie Fingers' #34.
  15. Probably, but... he'll need at least one more full, healthy season to get there, if not two. At his age, health is a diminishing guarantee. And who's to say if Hoffman won't pitch next year, too. If Hoffman gets another 20-30 saves, would the odds of Rivera catching him be that great?
  16. Cravy has pitched well except for the 3-4 games where he's just blown up. I'm looking forward to what he's able to do next year.
  17. No... we could always retire the number 600 or something.
  18. I think it would be pretty cool to say you bought one of those shirts the night Trevor got #600. But that's just me. Congrats, Trevor!
  19. The primary goal of the coupon is to create awareness and get people in the store, but I bet they'd probably be thrilled if all the coupons were used. While most of them would not doubt be used for low-end mattresses, enough would probably be used for the higher-end/higher-margin mattresses that the coupon campaign would be a success.
  20. Steve Garrison was designated for assignment by the Padres.
  21. Congrats to Brandon, no doubt. We should be hearing about some more callups pretty soon, we'll use this topic for that too.
  22. Peralta and Kintzler for sure, probably Green. Whether or not they end up protecting Farris may depend on whether or not they make progress on a long-term deal with Weeks between now and the time the 40-man rosters need to be set for the Rule 5 draft. I'd still lean to probably yes on him - I think the Brewers like him a bit. Merklinger may or may not be, depending on his performance in the AFL. I'd like to see Katin and Dillard added (in Dillard's case, once the AAA season is over with this afternoon), but both are likely longshots. Wheeler and Ramlow fall in to the longshot category too.

  24. Including 12 ground outs/line outs vs. 0 fly ball outs. It's really pretty amazing what Watten has done since the end of May... his ground ball rate is nearly 70% (!!!) since June 1st.
