  1. I think the Brewers still go out and get Greg Maddux and a relief pitcher. I also hope Brad Nelson gets called up at some point before September 1st.
  2. PTBNL have to be named within 6 months and can't be in the same league as the team they are traded to... that would eliminate everyone signed in the past 6 months and no one else. I'm guessing it's a guy currently on a minor league DL like Hammond or Miller.
  3. LaPorta, ZachJack, Bryson and a PTBNL? That's a little out there, but a lot less than I thought it would be (depending on the PTBNL of course).
  4. Done deal, according to TH. Please redirect all new comments to this thread.
  5. By this point, lord only knows how accurate any of these ESPN or CNNSI reports are, but... while I can understand why the Brewers wouldn't want to trade LaPorta because he has the opportunity to be a very good player at the major league level, you have to give to get. I'm hoping the only reason he's not in the deal (if he's not) is to entice Cleveland to give up Betancourt, Kobayashi or Perez along with Sabathia.
  6. I apologize if anyone though they were being talked to like a child... I have a newborn, so maybe I'm predisposed to talking to small children. The point was, that thread is already one of, if not the, longest in Brewerfan's history. People, especially new visitors to the site, that come across that thread may think that we are rather a bit too eloquent in our opinions. Many people have posted many opinions, and many of those opinions have been redundant. I would say, strive to post new thoughts with each new post. Then there's the issue of nested quotes. There are so many superfluous quotes in that thread, I can't even count them. Quote what you need to quote. Unnecessary quotes make the thread even longer to read than it should be. I don't know how else to repost it, yet it seems to be a running problem.
  7. Update: Posting in another thread about Sabathia will not curry favor with the moderators.
  8. This thread is being shut down for an hour while everyone reads and rereads the rules for posting here at Brewerfan. If you want to post like you're in a chat room, go to the chat room in the interim. If there are any big updates, they will be posted by staff.
  9. If Shapiro gets LaPorta and Gamel for basically just Sabathia, I'm becoming a Cubs fan.
  10. I would trade much more for Cain than I would Sabathia, but I'm not sure that SF would deal Cain until the offseason. Bedard is an option, but his arm history is frightening, as is Harden's. At least we should get Maddux to give depth to the rotation/pen. Whoa! I'm a Brewers fan and I just mentioned C.C. Sabathia, Matt Cain, Eric Bedard, Rich Harden and Greg Maddux as valid options in July! Neat. Thanks, Mark.
  11. I stated this earlier, but I think it bears repeating... LaPorta is the best prospect anyone is (allegedly) offering Cleveland. Trades are generally won by quality, not quantity. I don't know if all the guys we are offering are better than each one of the Dodgers' guys, but we are giving the Indians the best guy. Whether or not you like what the Brewers are giving up, I have a difficult time fathoming how anyone could think they are giving up less than the Dodgers in terms of quality. Edit: In other words, to paraphrase FtJ, Melvin can tell them to take LaPorta and then A ball guys or pound sand.
  12. The play he made in the Futures Game? I don't recall a significant play he made in last year's Futures Game (I could quite possibly be blanking), but he made a spectacular play this spring that should be on an MLB.TV archive. Which game it is... I couldn't tell you right off hand.
  13. That is 100% precisely it. The Brewers are already going to draw close to 3 million whether they trade for Sabathia or not so it doesn't *really* matter what the fans think about it in terms of this year's attendance. However, they would rather have Sabathia now and not later, and not pay a huge premium for getting him this far in front of the trade deadline. That's why Doug is playing his cards quite far from his vest.
  14. If power is not restored and Cain is traded before the game tomorrow, what a way to leave!
  15. They aren't going anywhere this year and need bats for the future. He's not worth LaPorta but they might listen if we dangled Salome.
  16. If the Dodgers up their offer to include Broxton and Cleveland accepts, I hope Melvin is all over Cleveland to get Broxton. Broxton would be a nice consolation prize.
  17. All readers/writers of this thread, please note: This thread is really long and really exciting but one of the reasons it is really long, is because there have been too many one-liners and posts that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. It's exciting, yes, but that doesn't give everyone carte blanche to turn this into an IGT. Like every other non-IGT, please keep your comments relevant, cogent and non-repetitive. And as Casey mentioned earlier, please watch what you're quoting. If you don't need to quote a whole post (and you almost never do), don't quote a whole post. Thank you.
  18. Rogers. LaPorta is the best player of any of the guys offered between the Brewers and Dodgers... shouldn't Cleveland be primarily focused on that? If they take the Dodgers' offer (if those two offers are indeed the two on the table), they obviously just either want to patch holes or have a much high regard for LaRoche/Hu than seemingly a lot of people.
  19. Or he's insane: Parra and Gamel LaPorta, Gamel, Escobar (or Connor Gillespie, a good hitting OFer) and Jeffress (an all-prospect trade that probably won't help us much in 2009) Braun and Gamel Yovani Gallardo and Gamel or LaPorta (although I would obviously prefer Gamel) Only Braun and Gamel? Count me in!
  20. I say don't root for either. If the Brewers keep winning, it won't matter.
  21. I'd be surprised if they signed him to an extension. Even with a payroll approaching $100 million, paying anyone $20 mil/year is a huge chunk, and possibly a hindrance.
  22. I can't believe that they'd trade Hardy or Escobar. Hardy, because he's the #2 hitter on the third best team in the NL. Escobar, because he's a top prospect and Sabathia isn't worth two of them. I also don't want to see Green traded, but I could live with him gone. I still think something along the lines of LaPorta/Villanueva/Wright is going to happen.
  23. Is this some deep sarcasm I'm not getting?
